Jazz Fest performers confirmed for concert By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer

Carolina-based Delta Rae will headline the Friday night show at Strand Park for Jazz Fest.

Five of the six acts for this year’s Jazz Fest are set Friday and Saturday June 9 and 10. Friday night at Strand Park will be headlined by American Folk Rock group Delta Rae and Saturday night at The Amp will be headlined by Southern Rock artist Paul Thorn. Jazz Fest’s Robert Gunn has had the North Carolina group Delta Rae on his radar for several

years. “I reached out to them four or five years ago about coming and doing an event here,” Gunn said. “They thought they were not known well enough for the venue. Well, it worked out that they were close by and were able to work us in. We are excited that they are coming.” Gunn says this year’s opening act for Friday is a jazz group from Nashville – The Sofia Goodman Group. “We reached out to them last Christmas,” Gunn said. “She is a

drummer and leads the group.” Returning to Alexander City Friday night is JazzFest alum Randall Bramblett, who recorded with Gregg Allman and Elvin Bishop and toured with the likes of the Gregg Allman Band, Widespread Panic and Traffic. “Randall has been here before,” Gunn said. “They loved coming here.” He explained that Bramblett performed at JazzFest in 2008 when Zac Brown performed. Dadeville council reaches water agreement

Drug takeback to be held at Walgreens Saturday

An agreement in principle was reached between the Dadeville City Council and representatives of both Jacksons’ Gap and Tallapoosa County regarding the water situation north of the railroad tracks on Highway 49 during Tuesday night’s council meeting. Dadeville City Attorney Robin Reynolds would begin drafting an official contract. The tentative agreement was that Jacksons’ Gap would put in a six-inch water pipe to serve the houses in this area, with a meter at the point where this line branched off from the main water line. This would allow Jacksons’ Gap to bill Dadeville for the water, while Dadeville would bill the residential customers for their individual usage. The Alexander City Walgreens will host a drug take-back event on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event, held in conjunction with the Alexander City Police Department, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Middle Tallapoosa Clean Water Partnership, provides locals with an environmentally safe way to dispose of old, unwanted medications with no questions asked. “You can just walk up, drop them in the box, and walk off. They [the police officers and DEA officials on-site assisting with the event] don’t ask who you are, what you’re dropping off or anything like that,” Middle Tallapoosa Clean Water Partnership Coordinator Sabrina Wood said. “Any old, unwanted medication can be dropped off. They can be prescription or over-the-counter, in pill, patch, or powder form. The only restriction is that liquids, needles and things like that can’t be dropped off.” For those bringing in expired medication, Alabama Attorney General Steven Marshall suggested either removing the container labels or at least blacking them See DRUGS • Page 3
