Obituaries Earnest I. Smith 1943-2016
Earnest Smith, of Notasulga, Alabama was born on October 30, 1943 and passed away April 20, 2016 at EAMC. He was 72 years old. Mr. Smith was owner-operator of Central Alabama Excavating for many years and an Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Jettie Smith, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mollie A. Smith; daughter, Cynthia A. Baccus (Jimmy); grandson, Matthew Geer (Breanna); two great grandsons, Corey and Collin Geer; and sister, Frances Hoyle (Phil). Visitation will be held in the Parlor at FrederickDean Funeral Home Friday, April 22, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Notasulga, Alabama at 1 p.m. with Brother Henry Dawson officiating. Lamar Scott
Mr. Lamar Scott, 85 of Tallassee, passed away April 18, 2016. He was born June 12, 1930. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:45 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo with Rev. David Floyd officiating. Lamar served in the U. S. Air Force and retired as MSgt after 20 years of active service. He served overseas in Greenland, Guam, Japan, Africa (Libya), Germany and Panama,
and was Communications Center Supervisor at Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, Andrews AFB, Washington, D.C. when he retired. Master Sergeant Scott was presented with the following awards and decorations: Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one (1) Bronze Service Star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five (5) bronze loops, Air Force NCO Academy Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with Three (3) Bronze Leaf Oak Clusters. Master Sergeant Scott was recognized for constantly displaying a high order of initiative, ability, resourcefulness and devotion to duty. He is survived by wife, Katie Scott; daughter, Diane Sutcliffe; sons, Glenn Scott (Jackie) and Steven Scott (Ginny); and daughter-inlaw, Frankie Scott. Annie Rainey
Annie Jewel Raborn Rainey, 79, returned to her home after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Her steadfast devotion to family and firm belief in God supported Ann in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Robert Rainey, two children, John Rainey (Judy), Stephanie Smith (Danny), who stood
by her during her time of need. Four grandchildren: Barbara Nuss, Chris Rainey, Nikki Rainey, and Christy Smith Wickham. Five great-grandchildren: Lilliana Carr, Chase Ingram, Cody Evans, Caila Wickham, and Carson Wickham. Ann is predeceased by her parents John and Annie Raborn, brothers and sisters: Juanita Raborn, Eugene Raborn, John Raborn Jr., Albert Raborn, Dorothy Kilpatrick, Merle Jenkins, and Ethel Brooks. Even in death Ann was a giving person. Her body has been donated to science at UAB. In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to the Central Baptist Church Renovation Fund. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 30. Visitation is at 1 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m.
Margaret Monk
Ms. Margaret Monk, 75, of Tallassee, passed away April 24, 2016. She was born October 10, 1940. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Estes officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, Linville Memorial Funeral Home directing. She is survived by her mother, Mary Frances Pate; daughter, Elaine Monk Shirley (David); brother, William Mack Monk; sisters, Frances Brantley, Velma Rice and Dianne Funderburk; and grandson, Hunter Griffith. Franklin Johnson
Franklin Ted Johnson, 72, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016. He loved life and loved people. Many of his friends and family were affectionately given nicknames and over time he acquired a few of his own, “Paw Paw”, “PaPa”, and “The Man.” Ted was passionate about life, his family, and most especially his grandchildren! He loved the farm, hunting raccoons and hogs, and working his border collie dogs. Ted graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Troy University, and graduated from Murdock’s Cotton School in Memphis, Tennessee. Ted was a farmer loving the land, rural life and RFDTV! His other passions were The Back Forty Restaurant where he enjoyed visiting with customers and collecting antique Farmall tractors and other assorted

antiques. He used the lessons his illness taught him to reach out to others that were having difficulty with health issues. Ted was a longtime member of Bradford’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Ted served in the Alabama National Guard, as President of the Macon County Cattlemen’s Association, President of the Macon County Farmer’s Federation, President of the Alabama Soybean Association and Vice President of the American Soybean Association. He also served as a member of the National Crop Insurance Board. Through his work with border collies, he served as President of the Alabama Border Collie Association and the National Handler’s Association. Ted was a gifted dog handler winning national championships with his border collies and using these talents with his coonhounds and hog dogs. He judged many Border Collie trials and was the first American to judge a trial in England. He loved to use his dogs to be demonstrations for school children to emphasize the importance of discipline. Ted is survived by his wife of 48 years Marjory; his sons Franklin Ted Johnson, Jr. (Regina) and David Carter Johnson (Anna); his six grandchildren Jessea Rai Battle (Tim), Elizabeth Susan Johnson, Avery Dawn Johnson, Hannah Grace Johnson, Lane Carter Johnson, and Emmie Adelia Johnson; two great grandchildren Forrest Lee Battle and Hunter Steven Battle; his brother Harold Johnson (Diann); his nieces Shanna Marie Grubbs (Andy) and Amanda LaNay Douty (Brian); and many other nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his father TF Johnson, his mother Margie Sheppard Johnson and his grandson Toliver Drake Johnson. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Carter Family Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Lori SheltonPuckett and Rev. Ray Bass officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 26, 2016, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Bradford’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Shorter. Pallbearers will be TG Cox, Lamar Ledbetter, Larry Haigler, Jimmy Gowan, Brandon Graham, Mike Mann, Will Sheppard, and Frank Pierce.
