A man who was convicted of sexual abuse of a child and sodomy involving two young girls in 2013, was sentenced to 105 years in prison Tuesday by Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Judge

Tom Young.

Henry Lemanns Williams, 42, was convicted after the two girls, who are now 14 and 16, gave graphic testimony about he touched them inappropriately and performed acts upon them. In one case a victim was drugged before Williams abused her and they testified that Williams hit them and threatened to kill them if they told anyone what he had done.

District Attorney Jeremy Duerr read letters written by the victims in the case that left no

doubt as to the pain he had inflicted on the girls.

One victim, now 16, wrote: “What he did to me hurt me in so many ways. What he did to me left a scar that can never be erased. What he did to me will forever haunt me in my nightmares. …He ruined my life and he is the most disgusting person I have ever met. I hope he rots in hell for what he did to me and I hope he pays.”

The New Site Fire Department was recently awarded a $70,000 grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

With these funds, they plan to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus units so that the firefighters will be better prepared when combating future fires.

DEAR ABBY: I’ve been married almost four years.

My husband and I are both barely 40, still quite young, but we have sex only once or twice a month. Our relationship is great, and we love each other. I just wish we had sex more often. I’ve told him I would like more, but it stays the same.

When we talked about past relationships, he mentioned women hounding him to have sex, so I don’t think it’s me. I don’t want to cheat, but I’m afraid I eventually will if my needs are not met. I don’t want to leave him, but I don’t want an almost sexless marriage.

He’s a very masculine man, so I don’t know how to ask him to go to the doctor to get something to increase his sex drive. Should I do that?

You appear to have married a very masculine man who has a very low sex drive or who may be borderline asexual. If marital aids would help you, by all means get some. You should also have a frank talk with your husband and suggest he consult his physician about the discrepancy in your sex drives.

Marriage counseling might help to improve your level of communication, but if none of the above work, you will have to decide if you are prepared to live with the situation as it is.

DEAR ABBY: I just stumbled upon my daughter-in-law’s Twitter account.

She has posted half-naked pictures, talked about all the drinks she was consuming, and said that if she didn’t have a child, she’d be gone.

The language she used would make a sailor blush.

I baby-sit for her, and I was shocked, to say the least. I foolishly posted a shocked cat on Facebook, stating that “this is me reading your Twitter account.”

My son is now upset with me that I read her Twitter posts. I am not sure he had seen them. I saved them on my computer, which he picked up when he was here and ran through my history.

was beaten because the men apparently suspected her of stealing drugs, according to reports. She was then driven to the site in a borrowed vehicle and left, officials said in published reports. A meth lab was found at the trailer where officials believe the attack took place.

Upon hearing of recent developments, Young agreed to revoke Hammonds’ bond. He had been free on a $27,000 after his arrest in the child abuse case, where he was accused of punching a child in the head, body and face in an attempt at discipline.

“In light of these new developments, I agree that bond should be revoked so that if he were to somehow make bond there, we could hold him here without bond until his next court date,” Young said. “We will wait and see what happens from here.”

In the case here in Tallapoosa County, Hammond was scheduled to have a mental evaluation to consider his competency as part of a possible insanity defense.

in a narcotics case several years ago. Upon receiving the truck, the New Site Police Department used it some as a patrol vehicle until it was deemed inoperable and parked at its current location.

At the New Site Town Council meeting on April 17, the Tahoe was declared surplus by the council, allowing them to put it up for sale to any interested party. However, some of the parts had been taken from the truck to help repair other vehicles the town owned.

“Anybody that wants to can submit a sealed bid.

We’ll be accepting bids on the vehicle until 4 p.m. next Monday, May 1. All bids that have been received will then be opened during the council meeting at 5

p.m., and it’ll be given to the highest bidder,” Weddle said.

According to Weddle, there is no minimum threshold that the bids must meet in order for the truck to be sold.

“Anyone can bid any price they want,” he said.

For those who are interested in bidding on the Tahoe, but want to take a closer look at the truck before submitting their sealed bid, “Contact Town Hall, and we’ll make the vehicle available for inspection,” Weddle explained.

As of approximately 10 a.m. yesterday, he said that no bids had been received at Town Hall, leaving the field wide open for any and all interested parties.

Armed with a copy of Tuesday’s Outlook, Duerr told Hammonds’ attorney Derrick Blythe and Judge Tom Young about Hammonds latest trouble with the law.

Hammonds was arrested Thursday in Calhoun County along with Anthony Scott Coffee, 36, and David Brian Pearman, 57. All three have been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping and are being held in the Calhoun County Jail on $300,000 bond each. The three could face additional charges.

Officials say that motorist found a woman who was badly beaten with an electric cord that had been made into a noose around her neck beneath a bridge over in unincorporated Calhoun County.

Investigators believe the beating happened at a Golden Springs trailer, with each man taking turns beating the woman over several hours. The woman

Mrs. Bohannan passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at her home. A Sandy Springs, GA native and graduate of Sandy Spring High School - Class of ’61, she had worked in clerical and secretarial work until her marriage to her husband George Bohannan in 1973. The couple moved to Alabama where Clara worked for Goolsby and Walkley, C.P.A. in Sylacauga until 1985. From 1987 to 1991, she worked for the 1st Federal Bank, then until 1993 for the Coosa Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Bohannan then worked for Hill Petroleum until her retirement. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Ashland.

Alabama elections will be an adventure next year

T

he decisive move by newly minted Governor Kay Ivey to declare a Special Election for the Jeff Sessions’ Senate Seat this year rather than next year changes the entire complexion of who will sit in that coveted seat. It also redefines the landscape of an ever changing and pivotal Alabama political scene.

This next year will be an adventure as we elect a Senator and concurrently the 2018 Governor’s Race will begin its evolution. We have already seen the downfall of a sitting governor this year and

by September 26, we will see the election of a new junior U.S. Senator. There is an assumption that only a Republican can win statewide office in Alabama and winning the GOP primary is tantamount to election.

The decision by Governor Ivey was the right decision. Most folks would assume that “forthwith� means this year rather than next year. It was also a wise political move by Ms. Ivey if she wants to run for a full term.

Ivey’s calling for the Special Election for Sessions’ seat immediately, could be the death knell for Luther Strange. By December, he may go from being the newest and tallest member of the U.S. Senate to the shortest serving senator in Alabama history.

His defeat could be very inglorious and humiliating.

With the election being this year, it will be the only show in town. It will be a spectacle.

Every politician who is in any office can run without risking his or her current posts. In other words, everyone has a free shot.

Therefore, it will be a free-for-all.

Everyone will run against poor

Big Luther and the Bentley taint.

They will use their campaign resources to give you the unmitigated details of how Luther got put in that seat by ole Bentley.

You will be told so many times that Bentley and Luther got together in a backroom with Rebekah and brokered a deal to sell Luther the Senate seat in return for Luther not prosecuting Bentley and Rebekah that you will know the story by heart. Luther will be as tarnished and feathered as ole Bentley.

In about two weeks, when the Washington PAC’s see the polling that reveals Luther is in trouble, his campaign resources will be less than he expected and he may not be able to defend against the onslaught of negative ads.

The question becomes, who will be the early frontrunners?

Roy Moore enters as the favorite.

His evangelical base becomes crystallized in a large field. It will probably reserve him a place in the September 26 run-off. Who will be the other candidate in the runoff? It may very well not be Luther Strange.

The U.S. Senate is a select club.

A cursory look around the chamber reveals very wealthy people or celebrities. Senate seats are bought by wealthy individuals in a good many cases. We have some people in Alabama who could very easily buy the Senate seat.

The short period of time that exists to raise money for an August

15 election even further enhances the advantage for someone who can self finance and write a big check. The name on most lists is the “Yella Fella,� Jimmy Rane.

He would sell. He is a natural salesman.

Folks close to Yella Fella get the feeling that he does not want to go to Washington at this time in his life. However, he is adamant and determined that Luther Strange will not remain in the seat. Therefore, he may bankroll another candidate through a super PAC. Rumor has it that he will get behind Del Marsh. Marsh has his own money also. However, he needs more money because he is totally unknown to Alabama voters.

I will keep you posted on the developments. I do not know how many of these folks will join the fray but this is how I will handicap the horses at this time.

Jimmy Rane and Roy Moore are one and two. Other possibilities are Congressman Robert Aderholt, Congressman Bradley Byrne, Luther Strange, Secretary of State John Merrill, Congressman Mo Brooks, State Auditor Jim Ziegler, State Senator Del Marsh, Trump Trumpeter Perry Hooper, Jr, State Senator Slade Blackwell, State Senator Trip Pittman, ADECA Director Jim Byard, State Senator Arthur Orr, and State Representative Ed Henry.

It will be a great show.

Our View

Save water now, before it becomes an emergency

Y

es, the lake is almost full and we have had rain, but we want to caution everyone about excess watering.

It seems many of the weather forecasters are saying this summer could be another dry one. We have to look only to last year to recall what drought conditions can mean to everyone.

We pray that nothing to that degree awaits us this year, but will it hurt to take a few precautions just to be on the safe side?

No, it won’t hurt a bit. The Outlook wants everyone to be cautious and begin to conserve water.

Consider trying just a few of these water-saving measures: • Never put water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or garden, or cleaning.

• Verify that your home is leakfree, because many homes have hidden water leaks. Read your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak.

• Repair dripping faucets by replacing washers.

• Check for toilet tank leaks by adding food coloring to the tank.

If the toilet is leaking, color will appear within 30 minutes.

• Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet.

• Don’t let water run while shaving or washing your face.

Brush your teeth first while waiting for water to get hot, then wash or shave after filling the basin.

• Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than letting the tap run every time you want a cool glass of water.

• Do not use running water to thaw meat or other frozen foods.

Those are just a few ideas, there are tons more out there if you want to get serious about this.

The little bit of water saved now might save the water for a longer boating season or water restrictions later in the summer.

Entertainment and life lessons from the courtroom

I

f you ever find yourself with time on your hands and want some cheap entertainment and get a lesson in civics and the Alabama criminal justice system, spend a day in court.

It doesn’t matter if it’s municipal court where everything from traffic offenses to misdemeanor cases are heard or circuit court where criminal acts of all sorts are on the docket, there is always human drama and tales told.

If you want proof, you need to look no further than Tuesday morning in the courtroom of Judge Tom Young.

Young clearly tells people to speak up in court, but he has a good reason.

“I suffer from a medical condition known as 30 years of Led Zepplin, so I need you to speak up so I can hear you,” Young told one man who stood before him.

Judging what some of them were saying, they may have been better off not to say a word.

One man dressed in an orange-stripped jail uniform was before the judge for sentencing on charges of theft of property, less than four months after getting probation on another theft change.

“Judge, if you were to give me probation you won’t have to worry about seeing me in front of you again,” the man said.

Young scratched his head and started looking through a thick stack of papers.

“I understand what you are saying, but I don’t believe in kicking the can down the road,” Young told the man. “I read the application and hear what

you are saying, but I can’t help but look at this criminal record. I see a first page and turn and there’s a second and a third page right behind it.

To me that shows a pattern – a disregard for the law.

“So because of that, I don’t find you a suitable candidate for probation.

Probation should be reserved for people who make a mistake and learn from it and show that they understand why laws are important and should be obeyed. I just don’t see that here.”

Young had similar words for another man in a similar situation.

“I hear what you are saying that you want to get past this and look for a job and start fresh,” Young said.

But what I see here is that you have a lengthy career in breaking the law. And that doesn’t add up to probation with me.”

Even though Young sent that man to prison, he did roll six other cases into the same action, meaning that he will serve one sentence for them all.

There was a young man who appeared in court in a stripped jail uniform and a closely cropped haircut except for two small braids on the top of his head that stood up like antenna on top of a snail’s head.

He had been given the chance to serve his time in community corrections where he was free to work and live outside a cell, but

just had to stay clean and not break the law and report in regularly with court officials.

Instead, he got arrested again.

“You haven’t gotten my message yet, even after I gave you a chance to serve on community corrections?”

Young asked. “I have no reason to believe that you have understood it now.”

Young sentenced the man to serve the two remaining years of his original sentence “behind the fence.”

Maybe he will understand what Young was saying then.

Then there was a woman who was convicted in November of last year for a series of drug offenses, a year after she was arrested for another trio of drug charges. But earlier this month she was arrested again for fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of stolen property.

The latest arrest came after she had been given a break by a judge and was on probation.

“You have really abused my benevolence,” Young said. “I don’t know how many ways I need to tell you that you have to act right when you are on community corrections. Community corrections is revoked and you can serve out the remainder of your sentence.”

In this time when judges have seen their hands tied in may ways as the state tries to solve the issues in the state’s prisons with light sentences, it’s refreshing to see a judge driving a point home.

Not only is it refreshing, it’s entertaining, too.

Citizens of Alabama need to pray for and support Ivey

Dear Editor, Matthew 20:16 “So the last shall be first and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.”

Alabama has a new governor and I’m sure many already have heard or read about the previous Governor Robert Bentley who resigned.

Prayers need to continually go up for Mr. Bentley and I pray that reconciliation will come for our fallen leader and his family and others involved.

For many months I noticed in the Alexander City Outlook’s “Know your officials” list that often the opinion of the newspaper would be so long that Mrs. Kay Ivey, who was then our Lt. Governor, picture would not be posted.

I often wondered why the Alexander City Outlook didn’t switch up and leave out some of the other officials at times.

I suppose they have reasons but now we see that Governor Kay Ivey will be posted first on the “Know your officials” list and it is great Alabama followed the Alabama constitution and that Governor Kay received this post.

I am confident and I pray that the citizens and registered voters of Alabama will give her the respect she needs to carry out this important governmental post.

Reader: We are too complacent these days

Dear Editor, A few Sundays back I heard Rev. Donald DeLee preach on folks being complacent.

It was a very good sermon. Goodness, just stop and look at how most everyone acts.

People, don’t want to get involved, leave it to others. There are not enough others to get things done.

We are just set in our ways and ain’t gonna change come h??? or high water.

Seems no one is looking for change. They are just content with things as they are, OK, whatever.

We are complacent.

However, by our sitting and not doing and surely by our (most everyone) not praying and asking God to hear us.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves

and pray and seek my face and turn from there wicked ways then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Oh, my God, how badly this whole world needs Him to hear our prayers. However, there seemingly are not enough of us praying so as He can hear us. Do you all not think we, everyone needs to pray for our country, for each other. Seems, time is fast approaching, please wake up before it is too late. I am not just asking, I am begging.

Not only our churches, but everyone on the face of God’s good earth needs to pray. It is never too late till the trumpet sounds.

Weather reminds me of growing up in England

C

hangeable weather over the weekend reminded me of what I grew up with in England during May and June.

Usually for us here, it’s baking hot by now.

I was thrilled to see my roses all blooming. Nature is a wonderful thing providing the option of freshly cut flowers to enjoy inside.

Good news, the three lost horses found their own way home. While the owners were out searching, the horses arrived home and were waiting in another pasture. The hunting dog with posters all around, is still missing. It’s difficult to search our woods. You almost need a “search party,” so much out there to camouflage things that are sitting still. Time to watch out for snakes. Look down and ahead as you walk.

Earlier in the month we picked up a pizza for supper. Eating the last piece, you could see that the ‘oil brush’ hairs, about six, had been cooked into the crust. I did not eat that piece and took it back in the large box to show the manager.

I usually make only one trip a week to Alex City, as it’s a 30-mile round-trip. So, I got the third degree from a worker as to why I didn’t turn around and bring it right back, then again from the manager. Another customer waiting there was trying to help me. It was quite

bizarre. They apparently had not heard that the customer is always right.

My ladies afternoon tea at Nixburg House was just great on Saturday, just like a family gathering.

I love serving foods when folks enjoy them. My guests were Peggie Sue Ott of Nixburg, her sister-in-law, Jane Ott who came in from Titus, Sheila Denney and Betty Price in their lovely summer hats from Alex City. Never a quiet moment.

We had so much to share and laugh over. We had a special afternoon loose tea that my Auntie Ena gave me when I was home last October. It was thirstquenching and delicious. The tea was served with a cheesebacon quiche, cucumber openfaced sandwiches, Bran Muffins with orange-honey butter, bitesized lemon curd tarts, melting moments biscuits, strawberry and cream topped trifle parfait and rich chocolate cake with butter-cream and bramble jelly filling.

The Alabama Wagon Train gathered and assembled at Wright’s Farm on Coosa 4 in Nixburg. They came in last Friday and stayed over the weekend. At this writing, they are still camped out. “In this world, I have so many unanswered questions, like why did this happen to me? …I am 14 years old and I have a long life ahead of me, to live with this guilt and shame on my chest.”

Based on the facts of the case, the statements of the victims and the fact that Williams had three prior felony convictions including arson, Duerr asked Young to go outside the state’s suggested sentencing guidelines, which suggested between two and 20 years.

After initially saying he had nothing to say as he stood in shackles before Young, Williams decided to speak up after the letters were read and tried to claim that witnesses in his defense never got subpoenas.

“Judge a lot of things that should have come out in trial didn’t come out,” Williams said. “I asked DHR to take (the victims) to the doctor and have them tested. If I had messed with the kids would I have done that? If they would have been tested, they would have known whether they had been abused or not.

But they refused to do it. People that I put down as my witnesses, they was supposed to be subpoenaed to come to court and they say they didn’t get no subpoenas. I’m just saying.”

Considering the letters and the graphic testimony that was witnessed at trial, Young wasn’t buying Williams’ request for understanding and mercy.

“I was here on the bench during this whole trial and I heard these two young girls testify about things – horrible things – that they shouldn’t have to talk about,” Young said.

“I heard their words in these letters about the things you did to them and how they feel still today. When I hear their words – even from the victim who still says she loves you – she doesn’t say that you didn’t do it. She just said that you made her feel like it’s her fault. It is what it is. It’s just a disturbing case where the innocence was taken from these two young kids.

Unfortunately, I can’t do anything to give that back to them. But I can do something about you.”

With that, Young sentenced Williams to 45 years on the Class B felony and 60 years on the Class A felony and ordered that the time be served concurrently, one right after the other.

Under Alabama law, because the crime involved children under the age of 12, that time must be served day for day.

Unless an appeal produces a change, that means that Williams, who is now 42 years old, will likely die in prison.

Duerr said he hopes that the sentence sends a message to Williams and others, while allowing the victims to start the healing process.

“You read those letters and hear them testify, describing the things that he did to them and you have no doubt that the sentence that was given by Judge Young was appropriate,” Duerr said. “This gives a measure of justice for the young victims who will live with this for the rest of their lives. Hopefully they can get some peace now knowing that he won’t be able to do something like to anyone again.”

Who said the Braves would be competitive?

I

t can be somewhat challenging this time of year to find interesting and relevant subject matter upon which to bloviate.

I suppose I could address the three Auburn softball players who embarked upon their own personal Cheech and Chong adventure last week, but I’ve grown weary of that whole discussion.

It’s against the law. They broke the rules and now they suffer the consequences. That’s how life works, or at least it should work.

I thought about breaking down the NBA playoffs, but every time I started to write a sentence I fell asleep. I took that as a bad sign and decided to spare you the coma I felt sure it would induce.

The Auburn baseball team won another series. The Alabama baseball team got swept again. While exciting to me, I know you’ve already been there and done that.

Well, when all else fails it must be time for my once-a-year look at the Atlanta Braves.

The last two seasons have been dreadful by any standards, much less the lofty expectations established

by Atlanta from 1991-2013. The Braves suffered through only two losing seasons (2006 and 2008) during those 23 years of incredible consistency.

However, Hotlanta has experienced a minor ice age since 2013. The Bravos haven’t managed a winning season in the last three years and things have actually gotten progressively worse. They finished in a tie for second in 2014 with a record of 79-83. They finished fourth in the division in 2015 with a record of 67-95 and finished last in the division in 2016 with a record of 68-93.

The topic of last year’s column was about the possibility of the Braves losing 100 games. They made a run at it, but improved play down the stretch narrowly avoided that dubious honor.

As we’ve discussed before, the last two years were a necessary evil in order to get the Braves proverbial house back in order.

I stated for the record in 2016 I thought Atlanta could be much more competitive in 2017 due to better roster management by the new administration. I’m standing by that analysis… for now.

It’s been a season of streaks so far for the Braves in 2017. After trading victories with the New York Mets in the first two games of the year, Atlanta lost five straight posting a dismal 1-6 record. I didn’t panic because I know baseball is a long season.

The Braves rewarded that patience with five straight victories and I felt better than ever about their ability to compete. Of course, I was still nervous because baseball is a very long season and my anxiousness was rewarded with six straight losses.

I’m not panicking because I know… Somebody slap me! I have no idea at this point. Perhaps another winning streak is in order. It might just be that kind of season. Perhaps not.

One thing is clear: Atlanta is totally outclassed by the Washington Nationals. I never said the Braves were going to win the division. I just said I thought they had a chance to be more competitive. Honestly, I still do.

Even though starting pitchers Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey’s age is somewhere in the vicinity of IJ Mobley, they’ve both given the Braves a lot of good innings. First baseman Freddie Freeman, leftfielder Matt Kemp and second baseman Brandon Phillips are all having terrific years. Ender Inciarte and Dansby Swanson are going to come around eventually.

Things might have gotten off to a rough start, but you know what they say… baseball is a long season.

BRHS boys soccer has huge turnaround

After graduating 14 seniors from last year’s boys soccer squad, Benjamin Russell knew it was going to have a learning curve.

To start the season, the Wildcats went 0-5-1 before finally earning their first win of the year.

But it didn’t get much better after that.

Another four straight losses made it seem like it would be a long road for BRHS. And then finally something started to click. The Wildcats won seven of their last nine contests, including a six-game winning streak, to end the season with an 9-11-1 record and propel them into the AHSAA Class 6A playoffs, which begin Thursday.

“I knew it was going to be a bumpy road, but I kept telling them that in the end, we’d be a good team,” Benjamin Russell coach Austin Teel said. “I think they’ve finally bought in and they’ve built on what we were learning early in the season. We finally started to develop

that chemistry that you work on in preseason, plus the believing part. They believe they can do it now and believe they can beat some of those teams they didn’t think they could beat early on.”

During the six-game win streak, the Wildcats had three turnaround victories.

After being shut out by Smiths Station the first time around, BRHS earned a narrow 3-2 victory. The Wildcats also

pulled out a 2-1 win over Opelika after losing 5-3 earlier in the season, but the biggest turnaround came against Alabama Christian Academy.

In the teams’ first meeting, Alabama Christian netted a 1-0 defeat of Benjamin Russell, but the Wildcats poured on the offense the second time around and earned a 5-0 win.

Reeltown shakes the dust off on Day 1

On the first day of spring football practice, the Reeltown Rebels donned full pads and helmets and were ready to go at it.

“I’m trying to get that championship, that’s how I look at it,” said rising senior Rajerrian Wright said. “But really, we’re trying to get continued work and effort. If everybody’s putting in 100 percent worth of teamwork, you can do anything with a football team.”

One thing that really stood out to coach Matt Johnson was that effort.

Although he said the team was a bit rusty on Day 1, he was pleased with the team’s desire.

“The effort is there, and they’re being very coachable,” Johnson said. “Day 1, we’re just knocking the dust off a little bit, so we’re rusty, but the kids are putting forth the effort. That’s all you can ask for on Day 1. I’m pleased with how they come out; we just gotta clean a few things up.”

Like a normal Reeltown football practice, the Rebels started by doing drills. They worked with individual coaches on skill position drills before the team came together for full-on offensive and defensive schemes.

“Just like teaching a classroom, you have more coaches with a smaller number, so you can get a lot more reps and get a lot more accomplished,” Johnson said.

“Then you can come together and look at the whole scheme of things and work on your position.”

Reeltown will be in the business of replacing a lot of experience after graduating a large group of seniors.

“Everything’s good, but it could be a little bit better,” said Wright, a nose guard/ defensive end and left guard.

“You can’t just come out and expect for everybody to know what they’re going to do on the first practice. We gotta find out who can really maintain and be able to play their positions when it comes game time.”

While Johnson’s Rebels already have areas that they’d like to improve, the most important thing about spring practice is simply getting back in football mode.

Horseshoe Bend’s seniors got to go home happy on Tuesday night after a 2-0 victory over Sylacauga on Senior Night.

It was a battle of two strong pitchers, but the Generals’ ace, Kynsley Blasingame, took the win.

She threw 6 2/3 shutout innings, while allowing just three hits and striking out three.

Errors spelled doom for Sylacauga, as the Aggies committed three miscues in the fourth inning and Horseshoe Bend jumped on them for a pair of runs.

Although they fell behind by four runs, the Reeltown Rebels nearly pulled off a comeback in a softball game against Holtville on Monday night.

But the Rebels came up just short, pushing across three runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings, but it wasn’t enough in a 5-4 loss.

The Rebels (23-9-1) had a fine day at the plate, finishing with nine total hits.

Through the course of the six games, BRHS combined to defeat its opponents 24-6.

“I think it was a combination of things,” Teel said. “We got to know who our scorers are and figured out who those are on the team.

They’ve stepped up by putting goals in the back of the net. Our midfield and defense improved, too. Our center mids have really took control of the game, which is really important – to win the middle of the field and win the balls in the air.”

According to Teel, two of the team’s top scorers are sophomore Luke Harvey and junior Anderson Radney, both of whom are relatively new to the Wildcats.

Experience has been brought in the form of junior defender Eddie Naranjo and senior goalie Brian Barnes. “(Brian) has played two seasons, so he really brought that experience on with the new team that I’ve got this year,” Teel said. “(Eddie) has been back there since eighth-grade year, and he’s really controlling the whole team. He’s a captain this year, and he’s stepped into a leadership role. He has good command of the team and has really excelled.”

Since the Wildcats’ return from Spring Break, the turnaround has been profound, and Teel is hoping that success will push them to a run in the state playoff tournament.

“Having an April run is big, and that’s what we’ve been preaching since we got back from Spring Break,” he said.

“I’m excited with that win streak what we can do.”
