The Alexander City Housing Authority Board of Commissioners has appointed Donna K. Gabel as the next executive director of the Alexander City Housing Authority. Gabel began her employment with the Agency in 2010 as the Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator for the Housing Choice Voucher program. In early 2011, she transferred to Human Resources and was Gabel promoted to manager of that department in October of the same year. Wayne Cowhick said in the opening prayer. “It a perfect day for baseball.”

The pilot of a plane that crashed March 28 near Dadeville and heroically tried to save the life of his wife has died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, according to Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett. David Lee Currier, 67, died Saturday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, 11 days after he was flown from the crash site in a long line rescue by Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Aviation Unit. David Currier’s wife of 48 years, Jeanette Carol Currier, 66, of Daleville, died in the crash. Abbett said that he had been in contact with the Currier family who had planned to visit the crash site. But the family contacted Abbett and said that Currier had taken a turn for the worse overnight Friday. Officials indicated that Mr. Currier removed his wife from the wreckage and was able to keep the flames at bay around where they laid until help arrived. He sustained
