BE CURIOUS.
Greetings from Cougar Country!
While October was officially National School Safety month, keeping students, staff, and volunteers safe is something that we intentionally focus upon each day. Chino Valley Schools are “home away from home” for 2100 students, 318 staff members, and countless volunteers and the safety of each one is very important to us.
When the general public consider the topic of school safety, typically, tragic events come to mind. These events are contemplated and briefly you may wonder, “Are our schools safe from such tragedies?” When those of us in the school business think about school safety, a myriad of things come to mind: school buses, pick up and drop off zones, choking hazards in the cafeteria/food safety, health of students/ staff, secure perimeters, fire drills, CPR/First Aid training for staff, emergency evacuations of campuses, interagency emergency operations plans, air quality, temperature controls, effective training of staff, types of shelter drills, violent events, vague threats delivered over social media, mental well-being of students and staff, guests on campus, emergency communications with parents, reunification of parents/guardians with students, internet safety and security protocols, cybersecurity of equipment/ technology programs, weather-related safety, school safety officers, and…the list is endless. But, so are our solutions!
CVUSD works with numerous inter-agency partners and together we have plans for prevention of unsafe incidents involving our schools and we have plans for response if an unsafe incident occurs. We frequently practice our emergency communications and our plans for everything from a “simple” gas leak or utility failure to tragic events as well. Our partners include: Chino Valley Police Department and Emergency Management; ADOT; Yavapai County—Sherriff, Roads Department, Heath Department, County School Office, Emergency Management, and Information Officers; Dignity/Yavapai Regional Medical Center; Spectrum and Polara Mental Health Providers; the Arizona Rangers; Arizona Department of Public Safety; Central Arizona Fire and Medical; Grace Church; and of course, our FOUR campus safety officers---two armed School Safety Officers and two armed School Resource Officers.
As you read the list of potential areas for unsafe events you probably thought, “I had no idea!”. Because you are not alone in this thought, throughout the school year, we are hosting town hall events for parents and community members to come learn more about the specifics of our plan for safe schools. We firmly believe that safe schools create safe communities. We desire that our community feels confident that we are doing as much as we can for the safety of all and that if there are folks who would like to help us, they will learn how the may.
Thanks for caring about our kids and staff! Visit our website for the date of the next Safety Town Hall event in January.
We value you, our reader, and wish you all a safe winter season!
aWishingyou
Happy& SafeHoliday Season!

BRING CULINARY SKILLS TO THE TABLE
Chino Valley High School students are learning the skills to bring those delicious dishes to the table. When we think of the holidays, we often think of decorations, fun events, time with friends and family, and, most importantly, food.
On December 15th be sure to head over to Essence for a visit with Santa Claus and the Grinch! They will be at the restaurant from 10:00 am-1:00 pm!
