Ch -13 – Topic – Surface Areas and Volumes for NCERT Class 10 Maths Solution CBSE Class 10th Maths : In this article, we will discuss Surface Areas and Volumes from the Chapter 13 of Class 10 Maths. We’re already familiar with some of the solids like cuboids, cone, cylinder, and sphere; and how to find the surface area and volumes of the same.

A number of solids are made up of combinations of two or more basic solids. We will study how to find surface areas and volumes of such objects.

Surface Area of a combination of solids Let us consider one container and have to find the surface area of such a figure. So let’s think out how we will solve this. First of all, divide a container in different solids to find its surface area.

If we will closely observe we will find that this solid is made up of a cylinder with two hemispheres stuck at either end. Let’s try to represent it in the figure as below:

If we consider the surface of the newly formed object we would be able to see only the curved surface of the two hemispheres and the curved surface of the cylinder.

The total surface area of a new solid is the sum of the curved surface areas of each of the individual parts. Now try to represent the same.

TSA of new solid = CSA of cylinder + CSA of one hemisphere+ CSA of another hemisphere Where, TSA=Total surface area CSA=Curved surface area So for finding the surface area of the combination of solids we will break the same into segments and find the surface area of each segment.

Work out few NCERT maths solutions for Class 10 Surface area and volume Exercise 13.1 Ques 1.Two cubes of volumes 64cm³ are joined end to end. Find the surface area of the resulting cuboids’.

Answer: Given that Volume of cubes=64cm³ side³=64 Side=4cm As the cubed are joined end to end then the sided of resulting cuboid will be 4cm, 4cm, and 8 cm Surface area of cuboids =2(lb+bh+lh) =2(4*4+4*8+4*8) =2(16+32+32) =2(16+64)
