RESIDENCE BnB

A residence had to be constructed for a greek refired couple who had three sons working abroad and visit occasionally. So, it should contain a master bedroom and three bedrooms for their sons and they could be used as 8’n’B occasionally when sons aren’t home. Challenge was to integrate the culture of Myconos, Greece and also take care of architectural restrictions in the island. Since sile is located in hot and humid climate region and close to beach, we have to ensure proper cross ventilation and orientation to cope with humidity.

CONCEPT AND FORM DERIVATION

Since the site was located in Myconos, Greece, they have a few restriction with the color of the dwellings where they can only use white, blue and some other pastel shades. Most of the houses are of cuboidal shapes. So, the concept to create a contrasting looking form but also keeping the culture and in mind. A simple cube was taken and then they are twisted and joined together to form a unique and chaotic form. protruding and depressing solids would help providing shaded and lit spaces to give a character to the interior spaces.

To provide a better view of the beach, the orientation of balconies and glazing were facing the beach. To cope with the hot and humid climate of area, double walls with 15 centimeter wide cavity was provided to replicate the cooling effect of the thick stone walls and yel giving efficiency with the construction. To staircases one from interior and one from exterior were provided to reduce the disturbance to the owners since, Myconos have very active nightlife. North light roof was provided on the top floor to light up the corridor and give a unique feel and form to the building.
