About the TahDah Foundation Founded in 2016, the TahDah Foundation believes that every young person deserves to have access to resources and opportunities that support their learning, growth and development. Our efforts focus on impacting K-12 and young adults who are differentlyabled, special needs and/or at-risk youth in schools, after-school programs, summer camps, homeless shelters and community-based organizations.

MISSION The TahDah Foundation’s mission is to improve the hearts, the minds and lives of young people with resources that support holistic arts education and wellbeing.

VISION The TahDah Foundation’s vision is to create a world where young people have access to opportunities that foster growth in encouraging, uplifting, and creative ways.

Letter from the Board Dear Friends, At the TahDah Foundation, love is a verb. An action that disseminates in all that we do and for the children that we serve. It is this love that fuels our steadfast commitment to improve the hearts, minds and lives of young people by providing access to critical programs that foster creativity, wellbeing and self-empowerment.

We are living in uncertain times where continued governmental cut backs to crucial arts education and wellness programs are unfortunately an almost every day occurrence. We believe that it has never been more important that diverse cultural, healing arts, education and unifying experiences be provided to children so that they may thrive and be their best selves. We know what is possible when kids grow, learn and get uplifted in diverse ways and when they are exposed to positive experiences, they can (and will) reach their highest potential. It is imperative that more of these programs are offered to more children — our healthy future depends on it.

Each time I have the privilege of witnessing a child participate in capoeira or a world music and drumming program my heart swells with hope. Not only can I imagine the future where individual children who have been nurtured and encouraged to blossom thrive, I know it is possible due to the generosity of donors like you, who also believe that love is a verb.

As a relatively new foundation, we are just getting started. With your continued support, we will grow and continue to fill the systemic gaps in arts and education. We must.

2017 Outcomes and Impact Since January 2017, the TahDah Foundation has provided $21,000 in grants. Two to Bay Area schools: North Oakland Community Charter School (NOCCS) and Aspire Triumph Technology Academy and one community based organization: YMCA - New Americans Initiative to support efforts in New York and California.

Our recent support has impacted over 500 kids in grades K through 8 by providing the resources needed to schools and organizations to partner with our sister organization Get Empowered! Get Empowered! offers programs in holistic arts education and wellness that uplift, empower and support children and adults of all ages and backgrounds by inspiring them to be their BEST selves. It is with them that the TahDah Foundation believes we can best achieve our mission.

Children have been given access to and participated in after-school and in-school programs that included world music, drumming, capoeira, Afro-Brazilian dance, and singing.

North Oakland Community Charter School (NOCCS) was given the resources needed to offer programs during their inschool and after-school hours, showing that integrated arts education can truly make a difference in over 200 kids lives daily.

Aspire Triumph Technology Academy reached over 200 kids multiple times a week during after-school and several times a year during school wide assemblies bringing kids, teachers, and staff together for engaging, fun, and empowering multicultural arts education.

The TahDah Foundation partnered with YMCA - New Americans Initiative to help with their nationwide initiative to implement and facilitate holistic arts education programs and outreach efforts between September 2017 and June 2018. The first event held in NYC was a tremendous success and included over 300 people from many different populations. Our partner organization provided 28 artists from 6 continents and Ambassadors Obba Babatunde and Bakithi Kumalo elevated the day with their powerful participation.

What the Schools are Saying “The TahDah Foundation has opened the world to our students with access to various forms of dance music and physical activities. Students have enjoyed learning about drumming, capoeira and performances. I have seen confidence levels increase drastically.”

Our students were able to show their brilliance outside of the classroom. After attending the afterschool program and assemblies, our 2nd graders had many questions about diversity and music origins.

This led to conversations about the African diaspora and diversity in the Americas - as well as the origins of music and dance.”

The Future Is Bright Imagine with us what is possible when more children have access to these programs that support their innate creativity and empowerment. We have witnessed first-hand the difference even a few hours a week can make in a young person’s life.

In 2018, we have a goal of providing access to 1,500 kids and with your help we will grant schools and organizations the resources to achieve this goal.
