Corelight sees double-digit growth in network security solution uptake As the cyber threat landscape continues to develop, one of the key challenges organisations face is actually detecting when their network has been breached.

This is much easier said than done, as cases where networks have been infiltrated for several years – before anyone realised something was amiss – illustrate all too well.

It is in highlighting when bad actors have found their way in that the network security monitoring company Corelight comes into play.

“We provide our appliance – a sensor-based on-premise solution capable of looking at all the traffic and all the protocols that go through the network and is able to extract the most important data that’s related to network security,” said Basil Shahin, Corelight’s regional sales director for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.

“We have the capability to trace anything through the network using our software.”

Corelight can detect a range of threats, among them ransomware, malware, command-and-control attacks and data exfiltration. The

problems that such threats pose to organisations are highly significant.

“In today’s world the network is the enterprise, because networks are used with all applications – databases, email systems, endpoints and servers. Everything an organisation does today goes through the network,” said Shahin.

“The fundamental challenge you have is bad actors who are able to find new ways to extort or exploit your data. This can lead to reputation issues and financial loss.”

Corelight has been available in this region for the past three years, but it is in the past 12 months that the company has invested heavily here, opening an office in Dubai and adding sales teams, customerservice teams and technical staff.

Regional customers who have bought Corelight include government agencies and large enterprises, among them banks and telecommunications organisations.

“We’re seeing tremendous levels of growth in the last three years – double-digit growth. There’s a huge uptick in the demand, not only in this marketplace, but globally,” said Shahin.

Corelight is constantly evolving, with multiple new releases every year; it is now in its 18th iteration.

“That includes new detection capabilities, threat-hunting capabilities, new capabilities to allow you to better look at your data,” said Shahin.

“There’s a sizeable amount of development that’s taken place and will take place to further enhance its capabilities.” @tahawultech

This will enhance the lives of our citizens and this is the core objective and vision of Injazat.”

Nutanix focused on making computing become ‘invisible’ Basil Ayass, was appointed as the new Regional Sales Director for the Middle East at Nutanix in July, following nine years at Dell EMC. In this interview with 60 Minutes at GITEX Technology Week, the charismatic and experienced IT leader explains how excited he is to have joined a company like Nutanix who is experiencing phenomenal growth, what differentiates the company from its rivals - and some new markets it is hoping to penetrate over the next few months.

Ayass said he was relishing his new role and said what attracted him to Nutanix was not only its incredible portfolio of technologies but how focused the company.

He said, “What excites me most about Nutanix is how focused the company is and they really know where technology is going - and they’ve built an ecosystem around this future. Whereas it’s fair to say that other companies in the market have built a portfolio which is wide, but in many aspects, they’re sort of spreading their bets and are waiting to see which direction takes off for them to increase their investment in that particular area.”

The dynamic new Regional Sales Director also highlighted Nutanix’s vision since its inception and said that its ability to simplify thing for its customers was one of its biggest assets.

Ayass said, “The vision from day one at Nutanix has been very clear and that is to make computing invisible. How we do that is by building a hyperconverged infrastructure and giving the customer choice. You can choose your hardware, you can choose your hypervisor and you can choose your cloud and we’re here to give you the software.

Since his appointment in July, he wasted no time in making Pakistan a key focus for the company and has already put boots on the ground in the country in a bid to tap into the potential opportunities in the market.

He added, “We’re establishing a presence now in Pakistan, as we really view it as market that has

a huge amount of opportunities that we can tap into. It is a huge market and every one of their telecommunication operators have 100 million subscribers so the scale there is huge. I was surprised we didn’t have anybody on the ground, so I said let’s focus in on Pakistan and start hiring someone and put them on the ground and this is what we we’ve done.”

He also claimed that the Pakistani market was extremely technical as a lack of attention from vendors and systems integrators forced them to rely on themselves.

He concluded by saying, “We

have great technologies that we’re selling across the region and we believe we can penetrate the market in Pakistan and make a big impact. The Pakistani market is also very technical, and they’ve had to rely on themselves as oppose to vendors. I think sometimes when there is a lot of vendors in the country the customers become lazy because they rely on the vendors and the systems integrator and they just pass it off. However, In Pakistan this isn’t the case and as a result they’re very well read, educated and technical so it is a market that excites me.” @tahawultech

Barco highlights opportunities in Saudi Arabia The Belgian technology company Barco traces its origins back to the 1930s and can list a string of innovations in its long and distinguished history.

But this organisation, once known as the Belgian American Radio Company, is not one to rest on its laurels, and today is at the cutting edge of technological development in everything from medical diagnostics to cinema projection.

Headquartered in Kortrijk, Belgium, Barco divides its activities into three key divisions, namely healthcare (including diagnostic and surgical imaging), entertainment (which includes cinema projectors and virtual reality) and enterprise (which includes wireless collaboration technology).

Ramzi Itani, Barco’s vice president for the Middle East and Africa, says that the enterprise division is the largest in this region – although this is set to change.

With Saudi Vision 2030 and the latest developments in both its business and IT sectors, Saudi Arabia opens a lot of opportunities for technology players like Barco.

“As the Kingdom embarks on a major economic diversification we see a lot of opportunities for growth,” said Itani. “We see huge market for our offerings in Saudi Arabia. We believe our products and solutions can be instrumental in enabling the digital transformation of organisations in the Kingdom.”

Saudi Arabia is not the only fast-developing market that Barco is engaged with – the company is also looking at opportunities in markets such as Egypt.

“There are a lot of projects coming up in Egypt,” said Itani.

“Currently, we are working with a number of enterprise organisations in that market including big banks and several government entities.”

Meanwhile, in the UAE, Barco is well-positioned to enable enterprises in both public and private sectors bolster their collaborative communications strategies.

In a fascinating interview Wilmouth highlighted the issues facing certain enterprises in the Middle East and explained how it is developing solutions specifically designed to help them overcome them.

Wilmouth said, “What is the problem in this market? You’ve got a dust issue and a heat issue. However, we have specific products for both the dust and the heat. We’ve got the capabilities to solve real pain points and challenges for customers here in the Middle East. We can tailor our solutions to address a specific problem regardless of the size of the business we’re dealing with.

We have the flexibility to adapt and that gives us a market advantage.

We don’t go with the one size all fits approach because it is not an effective method.”

The electricity costs of running major data centers is excessive and is not sustainable.

Wilmouth also articulated how the company has a dedicated R&D team that has been working for the last four years to develop better

technologies that can be used in data centres in the Middle East in a bid to combat excessive electricity costs currently required to run them.

He said, “We’ve met with people from government authorities here in the UAE in the hope that at next year’s GITEX we’ll be able to show a Proof of Concept (POC) that will be able to create green energy to provide more possibilities for this country to have enough chip current to be competitive on the global market for data. The electricity costs of running major data centers is excessive and is not sustainable. It costs 10 times more at the base point that in the US. They need new solutions and we’re hoping that in 2020 we’ll be in a position to deliver this for them.” @tahawultech

“None of our competitors have our story”: HPE

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has shared their success in the region with their partners, alliances and distributors at their annual Middle East Channel Awards last night at Caesars Palace Bluewaters, Dubai.

The event, which saw hundreds of HPE’s partners come together to celebrate the American company, was hosted by Channel and Alliances Manager Kinda Baydoun.

In a compelling open speech, Baydoun thanked her team, as well as the company’s partners, for their continuous effort in making HPE a tech leader in the Middle East and across the globe.

Waters said he was excited to be participating at GITEX for the first time, as his role was recently extended to the Middle East and Africa.

“One of the things that struck me about this event is the ambition of the people I have met. There is so much energy and aspirations are really high – everyone is very focused on achieving their vision.

“I believe there is a sense of belief that comes with that which translates into great ideas. The Digital Life Garage will see these ideas transform into innovation and opportunities – its doors aren’t even open yet and there is already so much energy surrounding the project.”

He continued, supported by Egger, by thanking the partners for their contribution to HPE’s success in the region.

“The great performance we’ve achieved in the region doesn’t just happen, it’s due to good partnership and work. HPE’s purpose is the main driver for us – we are putting together the technological building blocks to redefine experiences at the edge.
