The impact of e-waste on the planet is an important focus area.

Waters was quick to explain that sustainability is embedded in HPE’s culture.

As we continue to use more and more of our technology to benefit society, we are also very aware that we need to drive a culture of reuse and efficiency to help the planet.”

HPE GreenLake also delivers technology solutions as an automated consumption service. Waters explained that before organisations would have purchased hardware that would depreciate and become obsolete. HPE consumption services manage the lifecycle of technology assets in a sustainable and efficient manner meaning that customers only pay for what they use.

“When this lifecycle asset capability is embedded in our consumption service, the sustainability benefits are obvious. We have disrupted the established technology model to provide our full portfolio as a service. Our GreenLake solution is enabling this transformation,” explains Waters.

Discussing their plans in the Middle East, Waters explains that the region is a priority for HPE and they are increasing their investments.

Two-i seeks to help cities in search of happiness

Two-i is among the pioneers in the development of the Map: an interactive cartographic platform that collects and displays all the metadata generated from live video streaming. It allows the user to navigate in his own city and visualise in real time the levels of well-being in the different neighborhoods. By displaying a large amount of important information in such condensed stats, the Map revolutionises the way city management is perceived.

Two-i’s team is dedicated in cracking the challenges of integrating traffic and flow management solution and connecting external data into its already sophisticated platform in order to generate fully comprehensive Urban Data analytics. Moreover, Two-i’s Research team in collaboration with French hospitals has started medical trials for pain detection and analysis to reduce hospitalisation time and increase the effectiveness of analgesic administration. InfiNet Wireless demonstrates the power of 5G at GITEX Global fixed broadband wireless connectivity firm InfiNet Wireless is highlighting its latest innovations for network upgrades that will allow enterprises to enhance speeds, capacities and latencies, all while gaining much-needed control of costs at GITEX Technology Week.

“I think you can now say that the telecoms market has one foot in the 5G era,” said Kamal Mokrani, global vice president, InfiNet Wireless. “As a consequence, operators in the region are eager to upgrade their networks to satisfy increasingly demanding subscribers, but they also want to keep costs down while overcoming problems such as spectrum congestion in traditional frequency bands below 6GHz, or spectrum re-farming when their ex-WiMAX spectrum is being taken away.”

The new family of solutions, which is going to be unveiled at the company’s GITEX 2019 stand, is designed for the deployment of high-density multipoint networks that deliver performance up to 1,200 Mbps in the 56 MHz band. Axion 28 allows WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) multiservice-

networks infrastructure to be built in dense urban landscapes.

It lays the groundwork for smart cities, from distributed enterprise networks with as much as 10km between sites, to CCTV and traffic-management systems and networks in remote areas.

Another focal point of the company’s participation at GITEX is the Quanta 70 family of wireless products. This solution represents a new phase in the development of the 71-76 GHz frequency range, enabling wireless systems to deliver performance up to 480 Mbps in the 125 MHz band at distances of up to 5km. The range is characterised by low usage and an absence of licensing. Its use enables the creation of high-density networks with minimal mutual influence of wireless systems.

InfiNet is also using GITEX as an opportunity to showcase several upgrades to its point-to-point (PTP) portfolio, including the second generation of the InfiLINK XG 1000, the company’s capacity champion designed for high performance backhaul, and a reduced form-factor Quanta 5, the industry’s highest spectral efficiency solution suitable for a diverse range of applications including back-hauling for WiFi, LTE and 4G base stations, transmission of high resolution CCTV and video streams, as well as providing internet access to remote locations.

What have been the most exciting developments in the Middle East’s technology landscape over the past 12 months?

If 2018 is remembered as the year of blockchain, then we believe 2019 will be most famous for artificial intelligence (AI), noticeably with many more tangible results.

Red Hat, and in doing so has updated its open source strategy while cleverly leaving Red Hat as an independent unit to continue to thrive.

In 2017 the UAE announced a strategy to become a world leader in AI by 2031 and according to Forbes, already 62 percent of Middle East Executives believe AI is emerging rapidly in their industry and 71 percent believe that AI will have the greatest positive impact on the Middle East of any technology or trend.

How have your technologies or services been used to enable innovation in organisations in the Middle East?

Focussing on AI, as we said, there are many examples where it has been incorporated into solutions to enhance performance, improve accuracy or increase service levels for users.

One reason why it’s been successful so quickly is the incorporation of AI into an existing application, rather than starting from scratch.

That often means a faster turnaround of idea to execution, as generally the customer or solution provider has the necessary data and merely needs to add the AI component.

With IBM, for example, this can often be done via an API call into a Watson service (an IBMdeveloped question-answering computer service) to tap in to the vast base of knowledge and skills needed to provide the AI feedback.

Looking ahead to 2020, what are your plans in terms of new market opportunities?

A recent study by IDC shows that between 2018 and 2022, IT-related spending on digital transformation will touch $7.5 trillion. How will organisations adapt to these changes?

The technology shifts described

above will require a complete transformation of the way many companies work.

For larger enterprises it’s a chance for the IT department to take a lead once more in delivering value to their organisation’s lines of business through propositions using these tools. This helps them to become disruptive in their industry.

For many though it will be down to the partner who is delivering the solution to come up with these innovative changes and deliver them to the customers.

Either way, this is a cycle that eventually all businesses will go through and within a few short years it will be the norm, something without which it will be hard to compete in any industry.

For example we could expect that large “lower-skilled” callcentre environments will be replaced by far smaller, higherskilled exception-handling units in a business delivering zero process delays and the highest possible levels of customer satisfaction.

Accenture named as GITEX Technology Week’s Exclusive Digital Transformation Partner

Accenture has extended its agreement with Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) to serve as the Exclusive Digital Transformation Partner of GITEX Technology Week, the biggest tech show in the MENA region and South Asia, marking the fifth consecutive year that Accenture will hold the role.
