NEW CLASSES!

This September we’re delighted to welcome the start of some new classes at Tacchi-Morris…

NEW EXPRESSIVE DRAWING WITH LISA TAKAHASHI 7pm-9pm £120 term (£15 drop-in) 18+ years Anyone can draw, but this course will help you draw better! Using still life arrangements and objects especially selected by the tutor, you will explore the fundamental components of picture making: Tone, Colour and Visual Language. Each session will have a theme running through it, with opportunity to try out a number of different exercises (5 mins - 1 hour) specially tailored to allow each student to try something new, find a unique creative voice, and have fun. Aimed at beginners - experienced artists.

In return you’ll be part of our friendly community, see shows as part of volunteering, help our lovely audience members and ultimately feel good because you’re helping make the arts possible in your area. From the antics of a selfobsessed Knight to the double crossers of Tom, Dick and Harry, the characters remain as engaging and recognisable today as they were in the 14th century.

Grace is an unusual girl. She believes that she can fly and imagines that she can be adored by the audience as she walks the high wire at the circus.

She meets Old Grace and realises that sometimes life does not turn out as planned. Performed in the style of a Circus Show, we follow Grace’s journey from her dream to the reality. Tackling issues such as mental health, homelessness and the marginalised in society with a light and comical touch, this will leave you both highly entertained and thoughtful. Roll up! Roll up! Come and see the Circus as you have never seen before.

THE MAGIC OF GLENN MILLER DAVE HANKIN BIG BAND Fri 14 Sep, 7:30pm Standard £12.50/Concession £11/Student £9 Dave Hankin invites you to experience the sounds of a bygone era as he brings his 18 piece Big Band to Tacchi-Morris to recapture the timeless classics of the incomparable Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Come and hear the music that will transport you back to the heady days of the 1940’s and listen to unforgettable numbers such as In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Pennsylvania 6-5000, String of Pearls and Tuxedo Junction.

The Dave Hankin Big Band have been described in the press as ‘jaw-droppingly good’ and ‘exceptional... they could not be bettered’.

Asking how far would you go for what you believe in? Marking the centenary year of the first votes for some women in 1918, this dynamic production has an original music

by Sarah Moody (Devil’s Violin) and film animation by artist Catherine Cartwright, projected for beautiful visual effect.

Leaving audiences mesmerised by their faithful and accurate portrayal of the original band, both musically and visually, The Stones were formed in 2007 and the show has grown both in stature and popularity to the point where they now boast a massive fan base. Taking the lead as Mick Jagger, Benjamin Wattam’s resemblance and stage presence to Sir Mick is uncanny.

Lovesplay, a haunting dance and theatre piece, recasts the love story of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, inviting the audience to ponder their own experience of love. Sheba Soul Ensemble bring an immersive, traditional Afrikan experience to Tacchi-Morris recreating the Afrikan theatre experience through theatre, dance, market stalls and traditional cuisine.

Sheba Soul Ensemble sprang to life in October 2016 in response to several artists’ longing to produce different kinds of performances and fresh outpourings of artistic expression. An ensemble of artists, they work in a variety of genres, reclaiming the power of Afrikan theatrical traditions and affirming how interwoven theatre is with life. This is not sit back in your seat theatre - you will be interwoven into the whole.

Following three critically acclaimed shows and direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Steve Bugeja hits the road for his third and largest UK tour.

As seen on Love Island: Aftersun (ITV2) and Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), Steve has also been making a name for himself internationally as he has been invited to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival twice.

Steve hates showing off, so for each accolade below, he’s listed one negative to balance it out.

A.J’s Big Band return to Tacchi-Morris to perform a special Remembrance Day Concert. The popular 17 piece, now into its 33rd year, is led by saxophonist Ken Parr and will be presenting a packed programme of memorable arrangements and songs associated with the war-torn years of both world wars.

Complementing the impressive line-up of top musicians, the band’s stunning vocalist, Paula Mitchell, will remind us of the famous songs which helped to boost morale including, of course, Vera Lynn favourites.

This is an unmissable, nostalgic afternoon of top musical entertainment.

Fri 30 Nov, 7:30pm Standard £16/Student £11 Suitable for ages 3+ Ballet Theatre UK return with one of the most enchanting love stories of all time, Beauty and the Beast. Inspired by the original tale, this production tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village. When her father is imprisoned in a mysterious castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster. Little does she know that he is a Prince cursed by a magical Enchantress.

The only way the Beast may become human again is if he learns to love and be loved in return. The curse set by the Enchantress is bound by a magical rose. If the final petal falls all hope will be lost and he will remain a Beast forever. Their feelings grow ever deeper as the clock ticks and petals continue to fall - will they confess their love for one another before it is too late?

Set to a stunning classical score this production will showcase new choreography by Artistic Director Christopher Moore, as well as feature new sets and costumes created especially for this production.

ELVIS Sat 1 Dec, 7:30pm Standard £25.50/ Concession £24 On Saturday 19th August 2017 on the Graceland Stage at Memphis on the 40th Anniversary of Elvis’ passing Gordon Hendricks was crowned 2017 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artiste Champion. Winning Collingwood, Canada again, and being the only ETA to win twice at the largest Elvis Festival in the World, he became the undisputed No 1 in the World. The competition was run by Elvis Presley Enterprises with over 1000 ETA’s entering into the 20 competitions around the world to reach Graceland.

Now Gordon brings his fabulous show back to Taunton which takes you on a journey through all of ELVIS’ iconic music. From the 50’s through the 68 Special to the Vegas years this evening is a stunning replication of Elvis and features all his great songs in a classic show that gives you over two hours of sheer magic and enjoyment.

Gordon is accompanied by the TCE band & Singers giving you all your iconic songs recreating those magical vocals – it’s as if Elvis himself is on stage – maybe just maybe he is.

After the huge success of our first professional pantomime in December 2017, we are delighted to announce CINDERELLA - this year’s magical family pantomime at Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre, Taunton.

The most magical pantomime of them all will be brought to life in a brand new production created especially for Taunton, featuring stunning scenery, sensational costumes, magical songs, lots of laughter and amazing special effects.

The classic fairytale follows the beautiful Cinderella, on a journey to make her dreams come true as she heads off to the Royal Ball to meet Prince Charming. Beware of her Wicked Stepmother, who will do everything in her power to stop Cinderella's dreams coming true.

Don't you worry, her HILARIOUS best friend Buttons is always on hand to cheer her up, and her magical Fairy Godmother will ensure that she gets to the Royal Ball in style.

Combine close harmony singing with fast-paced choreography and work with a group of like-minded, passionate and dedicated individuals. Led by choral director Kat Stevens this show choir gives its members the best possible training and performance opportunities, as well as a fantastic foundation for progression into the entertainment industry.

A chance to ease away the stresses of the day and remove those aches and pains. Tai Chi has proven health benefits; improving your balance, coordination and posture through gentle stretching and boosting emotional and physical wellbeing.

If you love singing and have some spare time on a Friday morning come and join this fun and uplifting sing-a-long. Perfect for people to come together, enjoy a cup of tea and meet some lovely people. Singing songs throughout the ages this informal session will raise anyone’s spirits!

Anyone can draw, but this course will help you draw better! Using still life arrangements and objects especially selected by the tutor, you will explore the fundamental components of picture making: Tone, Colour and Visual Language. Each session will have a theme running through it, with opportunity to try out a number of different exercises (5 mins - 1 hour) specially tailored to allow each student to try something new, find a unique creative voice, and have fun. Aimed at beginners - experienced artists.

Tue 6 Nov – Thu 20 Dec An eclectic exhibition of beautiful artwork fills the walls and cabinets of Tacchi-Morris during the run up to Christmas. It’s the perfect place to buy that unique and personal Christmas present.

An exhibition by Lisa Takahashi - a practising artist, arts writer and art teacher who lives and works in Taunton. Her work has previously been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Watercolour Society.
