on hospital building needs have led to a different distribution compared to the preliminary draft. The materials were chosen according to their durability and maintainability issues, while the design was developed in order to reduce energy consumption through the adoption of innovative systems technologies, controlling heat loss and reduction of acoustic climate in the hospital context. They were also evaluated and developed specific aspects of systems maintenance and inspection. The versatility of use of the structure reconfiguration, especially with regard to possible future installation, is ensured by the adoption of appropriate technical solutions, such as the use of castellated beams.

As a result of the seismic event occurred in April 2009, the Pavilion (for hospital stays and outpatient surgery) has reported damage to structures, internal partitions and exterior cladding. The final design to renovate the building after the seismic event that hit the Delta 8 Pavilion of the hospital "San Salvatore", was developed from Tender-based design made by the contracting authority. The design includes: redistribution of health functions with the completion of the ground floor; structural improvement and repair of non-structural elements; adaptation of the building to the local fire protection and accident prevention regulations; integration of electrical and mechanical systems to adapt to new uses.

HOSPITAL "SAN SALVATORE" (BUILDING "DELTA 7" AND BUILDINGS 2 AND 3) - SEISMIC ADJUSTMENT AND CONVERSION L'AQUILA - ITALY Works-amount Works-amount updated Design period Function performed

2013 Architectural, structural and system design

The design aims at functional restoration after the earthquake suffered by the San Salvatore Hospital in L'Aquila, in reference to the buildings named Delta 7, Building 2 and Building 3. For the closing of new volumes created on the ground floor in the courtyards and under the arcades, there was produced a wall facing (empty case) with the outer face made of brick and plastered at the inside. Inside there will be a thermal insulation. The existing walls will be reinforced adequately through glass fibres and metal anchors. External facades, where necessary, will be cared with the system of "cuci-scuci" using tiles of the same type as the existing one. The design has been drawn up taking account of the existing legislation on accessibility by adopting technical solutions suitable for handicapped people.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW PAVILION D - INFANT BREAST, THE TECHNOLOGICAL PLANT AND SURGICAL HOSPITAL IN LUGO LUGO (RAVENNA) - ITALY Works-amount Works-amount updated Design period Function performed

2013 Architectural and system final design

The area of intervention of the new Pavilion "D" is inside the hospital complex of Lugo, in the area occupied by a building called "maternal and child health", which is scheduled to complete demolition, because after careful preliminary valuations, assumptions of reuse were unsatisfactory. This existing building presents general characteristics and structures designed according to an obsolete principle. Dimensions, such as the width and height of the floors were not good to allow systems implementations, as required for new activities that the Hospital intends to set up. The lot is located in the middle of a green area with valuable tall trees. The hospital intervention object is perfectly integrated within the Roman centuriation area, in a peripheral area compared to the city centre, in an area cut diagonally by the railway line from Imola to Ravenna. The current building departments (Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics) will be transferred within the surgical building of the Hospital. The intervention consists, mainly, in the new construction of a building in order to place on the ground floor the Dialysis Centre, currently present in another pavilion in the same hospital; on the first floor will be realized one Ophthalmology Day-Surgery , today housed at the fourth floor of the Pavilion A; on the second floor will be constructed a Clinic service. In the design of the new building it has taken account of the constraints in the area.

2010 Safety coordination (design phase)

The hospital is located in an area that is decentralized, but well connected with the city centre and is served by a parking area outside the complex. Spaces for the various policies and health services are well structured and linked, have no function promiscuity. The various surgeries, specialized therapies and administrative activities in direct contact with the users, are located in places of easy access and separated from hospital wards. On the ground floor of Pavilion 2 in the currently occupied by the old operating theatre, will be made the new ICU. On the second floor of the Pavilion 2, the renovation design deals with the hospital's Department of internal medicine. Maintaining where possible the existing distribution structure, we proceeded to the redeployment of local destinations. Hospital rooms will be 4 by 4 beds, 5 by 2 beds and 3 by 1 bed from a total of 29 beds. On the third floor of the Pavilion 2, the renovation project deals with the inpatient general surgery department. Maintaining where possible the existing distribution structure, we proceeded to the redeployment of local destinations. Hospital rooms will be 4 by 4 beds, 5 by 2 beds and 3 by 1 bed from a total of 29 beds. Fifth floor of Pavilion 2, the restructuring project deals with the Hospital Stays Department of obstetrics-gynaecology. 2003-2006 Preliminary Draft, Final and Executive Design of Structures and System, General Construction Supervision and Safety Coordination (Design and Execution Phase)

The intervention of consolidation and restoration of the historic bridge in masonry had the objective of ensuring the flow of loads up to 18 tons, corresponding to actual use. They are inserted into the lower surface of the arches, new spatial networks. Transversal steel braces and a suitable concrete slab, contributing further to distribute the loads evenly. Interventions of "cuci-scuci" and mortar injection gave new strength to the original walls, to halt the pronounced degradation . The final design proposal to the footbridge joins the current bridge. The walkway has a free section of 2.50 metres practicable throughout its 52.50 metres extension, with bottlenecks at the entrances of its extremities.
