TAMCC STUDENTS RECEIVE FULL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Foreign Mission Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., partnered with the Embassy of Grenada in Washington DC, as part of the Embassy’s 48th Anniversary of Independence Celebration Initiative to give a multi-year scholarship to deserving students who are enrolled in the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).

The initial offer of sponsorship is for the 2021-2023 Associate Degree program, and the recipients, from various parishes including Petit Martinique, have undertaken studies in the fields of Building Technology, Food and Beverage Management, Business Studies and Natural Sciences.

The scholarships were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the College on Monday March 28, 2022 by Executive Director of the Foreign Mission

Board, Reverend Terrence D. Griffith.

Reverend Griffith said, “We believe in young people, and we believe that the young men and women in Grenada must be supported”. In speaking directly to the awardees, he told them “Do not squander the opportunity but study hard and perform, so that the FMB can continue to support you beyond TAMCC.” In his remarks, Principal of TAMCC, Dr. Ronald Brunton spoke about how valuable these initiatives are to achieving TAMCC’s mandate, not just as an educational institution, but as a member of the National Community.

Dr. Brunton said, “I look forward to working closely with all of you in developing opportunities that support our students on their journey towards independence and success. I look forward as well to opportunities to strengthen the College to better serve our students, to enhance the quality of our curriculum and stimulate culture based on inquiry and critical thinking.”

ST.ANDREW'S ANGLICAN SECONDARY SCHOOL CAMPUS VISIT

Mrs. Cyndica Lewis-Charles, Admissions Department, conducted a campus tour with twenty form five students from the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School's (SAASS) English Department, on April 1, 2022.

The students toured the campus in its entirety. They gained first-hand knowledge about the Automotive

Service Technology programme from Mr. St. Claire; chatted with Mr. Peter Joseph about Building Construction; and experienced the Tourism and Hospitality Department's 'Curry Q and BBQ' activity, during which the Department Chair, Mrs. Natifa Jerome took the opportunity to speak to them about the various programmes.

The College expressed thanks to Ms. Allisha Alexander, English Teacher at SAASS, who always include TAMCC in her yearly tours.

TAMCC SCHOOL VISITS

The TAMCC admissions team visited secondary schools across the island to speak to prospective students about the programmes and opportunities available at the College.

Students were given first-hand information which will allow them to begin their educational journey at TAMCC upon graduating secondary school.

TAMCC GRADUATE MAKES HISTORY

Allister J.D Amada recently graduated from T. A. Marryshow Community College with an Associate Degree in General Studies from the School of Arts Sciences and Professional Studies (SASPS) where he studied Literature and Psychology.

During his first semester, he had his first encounter with Columbia College Chicago at a college fair. This sparked a fire within him. In 2018, he started planning and pushing toward attending this renowned and creative institution. This fire led him to participate in TAMCC’s best talent competition, and other regional and international creative competitions.

He also participated in various extra curriculum activities and student affairs and Student Representative Council events which, he says, assisted in honing his skills as a performer.After attaining his Associate Degree, he applied to Colombia College Chicago and has been accepted, becoming the first Grenadian to attend this institution.

Amada said “Being a student of the T.A. Marryshow Community College for the last three years truly transformed my life. My studies at the college positioned me one step closer to reaching my goal.

As the college motto states “we take you from where you are to where you want to go”. My studies in literature and psychology tremendously enhanced my overall cognitive capacity, thus, helping me evolve. A proven philosophy of TAMCC is helping their students unlock their potential. This was one of my inspirations during my tenure at the institution.”

“I personally want to thank the Senior management team, student affairs office, my advisors, the Student Representative Council, lecturers, faculty, and friends for your unwavering support. Without your help and support, I would not have been able to achieve my goal of being accepted into this creative college of the arts."

TECHNICAL STUDENTS GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY The T. A. Marryshow Community College is dedicated to inspiring all students to make a positive impact on the Grenadian society. The technical students within the School of Applied Arts and Technology (SAAT), with the guidance of Welding instructor, Mr. Kenneth Noel, have completed a number of projects which have seen the installation of playgrounds in areas which are frequented by the nation's children.

The Mechanical Technology II and Automotive Service Technology II students designed, fabricated and installed a playground

consisting of monkey bars, a see-saw, a merry-go-round and swings at Camerhogne Park in St George’s.

The first-year Building Trades and Services and second-year Automotive Service Technology students designed, fabricated and installed a playground consisting of climbing frames with a sand pit, merry-go-round and swings at the Queen Elizabeth Home for Children in St. George’s.

These assignments allow TAMCC students to engage in practical learning through the planning and execution of a range of projects.

ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR

The T. A. Marryshow Community College's Department of Student Affairs hosted its Annual Health Fair on March 31, 2022.

Representatives from the health department of the Seventh Day Adventist Conference, Sickle Cell Association of Grenada and the Food and Nutrition Council provided a range of health

services to the students, faculty and staff of the College.

The services offered included: blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, cholesterol testing, BMI, eye checks, step stress tests, health age, hydrotherapy, massages, Sickle Cell testing, COVID-19 testing and vaccination, immunization and counselling.

Informative presentations were also held on topics relevant to living a healthy lifestyle.

TAMCC RECIEVES LAPTOP DONATIONS

TAMCC Principal, Dr. Brunton accepting laptops from FLOW Grenada Ltd.

The T. A. Marryshow Community College received a donation of five laptops from FLOW Grenada Ltd. and one laptop from Ariza Credit Union. The donations were made to the students and faculty to facilitate virtual learning which has become an important aspect of instruction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Principal of TAMCC, Dr. Ronald Brunton spoke on the impact the donation will have on online instruction. “This is a wonderful gesture that is meant to facilitate teaching and learning at the T. A. Marryshow Community College. Our students and our faculty deeply appreciate this gesture. During the pandemic much of our learning was done online and, of course, the devices will be used by our faculty to deliver the curriculum.”

COMMUNITY PROJECT Students of the Electrical Installation and Plumbing programmes at the TAMCC St. Patrick Campus recently teamed up with some officers and traffic wardens attached to the Sauteurs Police Station to mark the pedestrian crossing in front of the campus.

Thursday April 7, 2022 marked the 72nd anniversary of World Health Day. This year, the day was held under the theme: Our Planet, Our Health.

Just one week later, in a true observance of the theme, the TAMCC St. Patrick Campus hosted its annual Health and Wellness Hike to the wellknown Welcome Stone in St. Patrick on Thursday April 14, 2022.

Carriacou Campus

PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF TAMCC CARRIACOU CAMPUS

The T. A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) is committed to meaningfully engaging and listening to the community as we strive to put together a programme and campus development plan that reflects the values of the people. As part of our efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of the community, we are currently reaching out to various individuals and businesses using market research tools such as questionnaires and online platforms to receive opinions and feedback on our institution and programmes.

On February 4 2022, the Carriacou campus hosted a meeting to discuss the trajectory of the campus. The purpose was to enlighten stakeholders on the existing situation, share our vision for the future, gain input, and better understand stakeholders’ priorities. The input gathered will help in the development of a college improvement plan which would incorporate the buildings as well as the programmes offered.

The Carriacou campus continues to seek input from stakeholders and plans on hosting several more public events throughout summer 2022, and will respond to requests for all community dialogue with the public.

Mirabeau Campus ABOUT THE MIRABEAU CAMPUS

The campus of the Department of Agriculture and Food Science, otherwise referred to as “The Mirabeau Campus”, is one of four campuses that make up the TA Marryshow Community College.

Director of the campus, Mr. Samuel Andrew said, "we are a special college that has been lodged with the distinguished mandate of preparing our students for active participation and future engagements in the Agriculture and Agribusiness sectors of our economy and our beloved country Grenada. As director of the campus, I can tell you that we take this mandate very seriously and seek continuous improvement in our delivery packages to our students."

The campus offers two-year Associate Degrees in Agriculture and Food Science under the School of Arts Science and Professional Studies.

Among the courses studied under the degree programme are: Soil Science, Vegetable Production, Plant Pathology, Irrigation and Drainage, Plant Propagation, Poultry Production and Ruminant Production.

The campus also offers quality piglets and pigs, rabbits, animal manures (rabbits, goats, chicken), planting materials i.e. banana plants, potato slips, goats and cattle, quality chicken, eggs, rabbit meat, beef, a wide assortment of vegetables & fruits and honey to businesses, farmers, vendors and the general public from the hours of 8am to 4 pm.
