Sheep Project We are excited to see our sheep project growing each year. We have 10 Members that have market lambs to sell and 8 Cleaver members. New this year is the breeding project with 2 members having ewe lambs. Although we start working within our project when the 4-H season starts in the fall members only have their lambs for about 60 days before the Achievement Day. This means that the members have lots of work to do halter breaking, grooming, and getting the lambs trained and ready for the show ring in a very short time. Don’t underestimate these lambs size and strength they can be pretty feisty at about 50-60 lbs. The goal is for the market lambs is to almost double their weight and finish at 110-120 lbs. Members learn and practice their judging skills on everything from footwear to lambs. This year there is the NE Regional Sheep Workshop to learn more about hay feeder construction, sheep nutrition, halter breaking, leading, showmanship and a presentation from Alberta Farm Animal Care on Animal Welfare vs Animal Rights and the 5 Freedoms of Livestock. Our mini show and shearing day can get wild and wooly, it is a great experience for the kids to learn and shear their own lambs. Monique’s Photography has again donated a ½ hr photo session worth $330 to be drawn at the end of the sale!! Only those who buy a market lamb at the sale can be entered to win and you get one entry per lamb bought. Odds are awesome at 1 in 10 at the highest! We will be having our crowd favourite costume class where you the audience get to decide the winner and you get a chance to try your hand at a placings only judging class too. Our Achievement Day Show and Sale will be Saturday May 28 with the show starting at 9am and the sale at 1pm at Agland. We hope you will join us for coffee and donuts! Dustin Dubrule
