Tata Nano

Tata Technologies – Vehicle Program Partner In 2003, Tata Technologies was asked to work on a new project for Tata Motors. The initial brief was very fluid. It began as an advance engineering project that stemmed from the dream of Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata to provide safe, all-weather, affordable transportation for Indian families. Four years of truly synergistic effort has resulted in the new ‘People’s Car’ – the Tata Nano. “The Tata Nano has been developed without compromising on aesthetics, value to the customer, or safety and environment requirements,” says Jai Bolar, senior manager at Tata Motors. The Nano features rear-wheel drive, and is the first vehicle to deploy an all-aluminium two-cylinder gasoline engine with single balancer shaft. The lean design strategy has minimized weight, which helps maximize performance and fuel efficiency. Performance is controlled by a specially-designed electronic engine management system. The most important goal was to create an affordable vehicle for Indian families. And Tata Technologies’ attention to detail at every stage has helped make it possible for the Tata Nano to have a starting price of just US$2500.
