Anchoring the program is Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”, one of the most powerful and transcendent works in the orchestral repertoire. This monumental symphony takes audiences on a journey through darkness and doubt toward blazing triumph and renewal.

Also featured is music from Hans Zimmer’s beloved The Lion King, a soaring, cinematic suite that brings heart, nostalgia, and rhythm to the evening. Rounding out the program is Floridian Symphony, a vibrant new work by emerging composer Meilina Tsui, offering a fresh perspective on the natural world and the idea of transformation.

With full orchestra, chorus, and the spirit of rebirth at its core, this is more than a concert, it’s a celebration of life, legacy, and the music that moves us forward.

Right between Halloween and the holidays… comes a musical ghost story that will spark imaginations and stir hearts.

On Thursday, November 13, join us for The Creative Spirit! A fast-paced, interactive concert experience designed especially for kids. When a ghostly composer returns on Día de los Muertos to finish his final masterpiece, he’ll need help from his old friend Sunny, a live orchestra, and a room full of young creative minds.

With laughter, rhythm, and a little toilet paper magic, this original musical adventure explores collaboration, memory, and the music we carry with us.

The program includes a new concerto by George S. Clinton's evocative "Rose of Sonora," a violin concerto in five scenes. It is inspired by true stories about the lives of legendary women in the Old West and takes the listener on an epic western adventure of love, loss, and revenge. As praised by The Chicago Tribune, "Holly Mulcahy's performance is nothing short of mesmerizing." The SOTR’s Discovery Concerts are designed to ignite a passion for and a delight in music through an immersive and interactive experience for students. Our Discovery concerts include engaging performances by our musical ensemble players led by our energetic Artistic Director and Conductor – Devin Patrick Hughes. Prior to the concert, we’ll send suggested lesson ideas that help prepare the students for sing-alongs and activities related to the concert.

Take a musical journey across the globe with Symphony of the Rockies! This fun and interactive concert introduces young audiences to the rich sounds, rhythms, and stories of music from diverse cultures and continents. Designed for children and families, the program invites curiosity, creativity, and a joyful appreciation for the many ways music connects us all.

OUR CONDUCTOR

Highly regarded for his exhilarating score interpretations, advocacy for music accessibility, innate passion, and entrepreneurial vigor, Devin Patrick Hughes is an American orchestral and operatic conductor of Irish and Guatemalan descent. He is concurrently serving as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Symphony of the Rockies, formerly known as the Arapahoe Philharmnic, and the Boulder Symphony. Previously he has held artistic leadership positions with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association, Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. Devin was invited to the Antal Dorati Conducting Competition and featured in Maestro, the Solti International Conducting Competition as a semifinalist in Budapest. He was the only American selected with eleven other conductors worldwide to compete in the Toscanini International Conducting Competition, and was a conducting fellow at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen. He has conducted orchestras across North America and Europe including the Winnipeg Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Des Moines Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Salina Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, San Antonio Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, and Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera.

Devin Patrick Hughes

Devin has created multiple programs connecting orchestras to their communities including the Virtual Virtuoso Series & Music Connects Series, partnering with organizations such as Balfour Senior Assisted Living and Community Food Share to produce performances and dinners both virtually and live. In addition to producing outdoor and drive-in concerts, including Boulder Arts Outdoors, Brass in the Park-ing Lot, and the world-renowned Takács Quartet, Devin can be heard on One Symphony, his new podcast amplifying the voices of composers and other artistic entrepreneurs.
