Warning

1. The compatibility of pneumatic equipment is the responsibility of the person who designs the pneumatic system or decides its specifications. The person who designs and decides its specifications is responsible for the selection of pneumatic equipment.

2. Only trained person should operate pneumatically operated machinery and equipment. Compressed air can be dangerous if an operator is unfamiliar with it. Assembly, handling or repair of pneumatic systems should be performed by trained and experienced operator.

3. Don’t remove components until safety is confirmed. 1) Inspection and malignance of machinery and equipment should only be performed after confirmation of safe locked-out control positions. 2) When equipment is to be removed, confirm the safety process as mentioned above. Cut the supply pressure for this equipment and exhaust all residual compressed air in the system. 3) When restarting, take measures to prevent shooting-out of cylinder piston rod, etc.

4. Contact our company if the product is to be used in any of the following conditions. 1) Conditions and environments beyond the given specifications, or if product is used outdoors. 2) Installation on equipment in conjunction with food and beverages, medical equipment, vehicles, nuclear energy, railway, airplane, emergency stop circuits, press clutches, brake equipment or safety equipment. 3) An application requiring special safety.

Design

Warning 1. There is a danger of sudden action by cylinders if moving parts of machinery are twisted, etc., and force changes occur. Design with adequate consideration to prevent personal injury such as catching hands and foots in machine or damages to machine caused by in this case. 2. Install a protective cover when there is a chance the product will damage to humans If the moving portion of the product will damage to human, machinery or equipment, provide a construction that prevents direct contact with those areas. 3. Make sure that the secured portions will not be loosen. Be sure to adopt a reliable connecting method if the cylinder is used very frequently or exposed to a large amount of vibration. 4. There is a need for a speed reduction circuit or shock absorber required If the driven object moves at high speeds or is heavy, it will be impractical for only cylinder’s cushion to absorb the shock. Therefore, provide a speed-reduction circuit to reduce the cylinder’s speed before the thrust is applied to the cushion, or an external shock absorber to decline the shock. If these countermeasures are taken, make sure to consider rigidity of mechanical equipment. 5. Consider possibility of low pressure caused by blackout Work pieces could be dropping when cylinder is used in a clamping, suspending and lifting machinery if there is a decrease of force due to a drop in circuit pressure caused by a power outage, etc. Therefore, safety equipment should be installed to prevent damage to machinery and human. 6. Consider any chance of malfunction of power source For the equipment that relies on power sources such as compressed air, electricity, or hydraulic pressure, adopt a countermeasure to prevent the equipment from causing a hazard to humans or damage to the equipment in case of malfunction. 7. Design the circuit to prevent sudden lurching of driven objects. When a cylinder is driven by an exhaust center type directional control valve or when starting up after residual pressure is exhausted from the circuit the cylinder, the piston and its driven object will lurch at high speed if pressure is applied to one side of the cylinder because of the absence of air pressure inside. Therefore, select equipment and design a circuit to prevent sudden lurching, because there is a danger of human injury and damage to equipment when this occurs. 8. Consider the movement of cylinder in the event of emergency stop Design a safe system so that if a person undertake the emergency stop or a safety device is activated during a system malfunction such as a power outage, the movement of the cylinder can’t not cause damages to humans or equipment . 9. Consider the action of cylinder when restarting after emergency stop or abnormal stop. Install safe design so that restarting of cylinder will not cause damages to humans or equipment. Install manual control equipment for safety when the actuator has to be reset to the starting position.

Selection

Warning 1. Please make sure to confirm the specifications. Products represented in this catalog are designed only for used in compressed air systems (including vacuum). Do not operate at pressures or temperatures, etc., beyond the range of specifications, as this can cause a damage or malfunction. Contact SYM when using fluid other than compressed air. 2. Intermediate stop When intermediate stopped position is performed with a 3 position closed center directional control valve, it is difficult to achieve accurate and precise stopped positions due to the compressibility of air. Additionally, since valves or cylinders are not guaranteed for zero air leakage, it may not be possible to hold a stopped position for extended period time.

Caution 1. Operate the cylinder component parts within a range so that collision damage will not occur at the stroke end. When a piston with inertial force strikes a cover and stops at the stroke end, use within allowable kinetic energy indicated in the each model specifications into account Contact SYM in case it is necessary to hold a stopped position for an extended period 2. Use a speed controller to adjust the cylinder drive speed within allowable range 3. Provide intermediate supports for cylinders with long stokes to prevent rod damage due to sagging of the rod, deflection of the tube, vibration and external loads, etc.

Lubrication

Caution 1. The cylinder has been lubricated for life so can be used without any further lubrication. 2. In the event that it is additionally lubricated, make sure to use class 1 turbin oil ISO VG32. Do not use machine oil or spindle oil.tube, vibration and external loads, etc. Stopping lubrication may lead to malfunction .Therefore, lubrication must be continued once it has been started.

Mounting

Caution 1. Make sure to align the rod axis with the load and direction of movement when connecting. When not properly aligned, the rod and tube may be twisted so cause a wear on areas such as the inner tube surface, bushings, rod surface and seals.

2. When an external guide is applied, connect the rod end and the load in a way that there is no interference at any point within the stroke. 3. Do not strike or grasp the moving part of the cylinder tube and piston rod , etc. Cylinder bore is manufactured precisely so even a slight deformation may cause malfunction. Also scratch or deformation in the piston rod may be the reason of a damage of seal and air leakage.

4. Prevent rotating parts from the seizure Prevent the seizure of rotary parts (pin, etc.) by applying grease

5. Do not use until you can confirm that equipment can operate properly. After compressed air and electricity are connected, make sure to mount properly by function and leakage test after mounting or repair

operating speed. When the cushion needle is turned clockwise, the orifice is smaller and capability of cushion is increased. 2. Do not use with the cushion needle fully closed. This may cause a damage to packing.

Operation Environment

Warning 1. Do not operate in atmosphere where there may be corrosion or rusting. Refer to each drawing about material of cylinder 2. Do not operate in dusty place or where water or oil, etc., could be splashed on the equipment. 3. Do not operate in an environment with strong magnetic atmosphere when using auto switches

Caution 1. Make sure to flush thoroughly to remove chips, cutting oil and etc. inside the pipe. 2. Keep 1.5 to 2 thread exposed at the end of the threads when pipe tape is used Winding direction

Maintenance

Warning 1. Disassembly of equipment and supply/exhaust of compressed air. When components are disassembled, first confirm that measures are prepared to prevent driven object from dropping, running out of equipment. And then, cut off the supply pressure and electric power. After that, exhaust all compressed air inside the system then start.

Cushion

Caution 1. Readjust the cushion needle. Cushion is adjusted when it is released from the factory. So adjust cushion needle on the cover according to size of the load and

Air Supply

Warning 1. Use clean air Do not use compressed air containing chemicals, synthetic oils including organic solvents, salt or corrosive gases, etc. It leads to damage or malfunction to equipment.

Caution 1. Install an air filter and emit the auto drain. Install an air filter near the upstream of the valve. Select an air filter with a filtration size of 5um or smaller. Emit auto drain regularly.

2. Make countermeasures to install an aftercooler, air dryer, or water separator. Compressed air containing a large amount of drainage can cause malfunctions of pneumatic equipment and valve. So take measures to install an aftercooler, air dryer, water separator.

3. Make sure to use fluid and ambient temperature within the specified range. Take countermeasures to prevent freezing. If the fluid temperature is 5Ëšc or less, the moisture in the circuit could be frozen, causing damages to the seals and equipment malfunction.

2. Keep air cushion operating at the end of stroke. If not, there may be a danger of malfunction of equipment. So when cushion valve operates with fully opened, Take countermeasures such as mounting damper, etc. .

3. In case of changing mounting, Use hexagon wrench as below.

1. When mounting cylinder, hold rod and head cover while tightening the nut with specified torque or hold nut and apply appropriate force with specified torque to rod and head cover.

2. Use appropriate tools to assemble or disassemble knuckle pin and E type ring for clevis pin.

Warning 1. Do not turn rod and head cover in different direction. There may be malfunction of the connection part of cover.

Caution 1. Be careful that C type retaining ring may run out of equipment When replacing the rod packing, C type retaining ring may run out of equipment. 2. Do not touch when cylinder is operative There may be a danger of burn by heat of cylinder moving in a high speed.

Warning 1. Make sure not to reach the stud when screw the male threads of the rod into the female threads of the socket or case. If the rod reaches the stud, the stud will not be able to float and be damaged. For the screw-in depth of the female threads, refer to the dimension. there should be a enough place for stud to rotate with the unaided eye. 2. When connecting driven object and cylinder rod to floating joint, apply specified torque by the thread size. In case there is chance of loosening screw during operation, Take countermeasures to prevent loosening, such as using a locking pin , etc. . When the connected part is loosen, driven object could be running out of control, causing danger. 3. Do not disassemble or reuse. It is impossible because high strength glue is applied to connected part of screw. If disassembled compulsorily, it could malfunction.

8. Be sure of sufficient space for maintenance. When designing, be sure to make sufficient space for maintenance.

Design/ Selection

Warning 1. Confirm the specifications. If it is used in load current, voltage, temperature and impact over the specified range, the product may be damaged or malfunction.

Operating Environment 2. Be careful of the space when installing multiple cylinder together When installing multiple cylinders with auto switches close, Keep a space of cylinder tube over 40mm (Follow the specified interval for each cylinder) In the event that each magnetic field is interfered, It causes malfunction of auto switch.

3. Be careful of the time that a switch is ON at intermediate stroke position. When installing auto switch at intermediate stroke position, it operates. But piston will pass in a high speed shortening the operating time of auto switch. So load may not be operated properly. The maximum speed of piston is as below.

4. Keep wiring as short as possible. If the length of the wiring to load gets longer, the rush current at switching ON will become greater shortening the auto switch’s life. In case of extending switch code over 10m, there is a danger of welding. So connect choke coil in series near the auto switch. 5. Pay attention to the internal voltage drop of the auto switch In case of auto switch with indicator lamp (A30, A40) is connected in series, There will be a large drop (2.4V or less) because of internal resistance in the light emitting diode. [The voltage drop will be“n”times larger when“n”auto switches are connected. ] Although the auto switch operates properly, the load may not be.

Warning 1. Never operate in an atmosphere with explosive gases. Auto switch is not designed for preventing explosion. So it may cause a serious explosion in the event of use in an atmosphere with an explosive gas . 2. Do not use in a place where magnetic field occurs. It may cause a decrease of magnetic inside the cylinder or malfunction of auto switch. 3. Do not use in a place where switch will be always exposed to water Poor insulation or swelling of the potting resin inside auto switches may cause malfunction. 4. Do not use in an atmosphere with oil or chemical. Although operated for short time, the auto switch may be affected adversely such as poor insulation, malfunction owing to selling of the potting resin, hardening of the lead wires.

5. Do not use in an environment with temperature cycles other than normal temperature, causing adverse effect to auto switch

6. Do not use in an environment with excessive impact shock When excessive shock is impacted during operation, the contact point will malfunction and generate or cut off a signal. So do not use under above situation. 7. Avoid close contact with magnetic substance or adhesion of iron When a cylinder with auto switch is exposed to a lot of iron waste such as machining chips or spatter, it may cause malfunction of auto switch shortening magnetic force inside that.

Although the auto switch operates properly under specified voltage,, the load may not. So after confirming the minimum operating voltage of load, Make sure to fulfill the formula below. Supply voltage – Internal voltage > Minimum operating voltage of load Drop of auto switch 6. Make sure not to use load causing surge voltage. If load operates generating surge voltage such as relay, there is need of contact protection method. 7. Be careful when using in interlock circuit. In case that auto switch is used in interlock circuit requiring high reliability, Provide a mechanical protective function to prevent malfunction or using another switch together with auto switch for double interlock system.

Wiring

Warning 1. Do not bend repeatedly or stretch It may cause a broken lead wire 2. Be sure to connect the load before power is supplied If the power is turned ON when an auto switch is not connected to a load, the auto switch will be damaged in a moment owing to overcurrent. 3. Confirm the proper insulation of wiring. Be sure that there is no poor insulation such as contact with other circuits, ground fault, improper insulation between terminals, etc.. the auto switch will be damaged owing to overcurrent. 4. Do not wire with power lines or high voltage lines Avoid parallel wiring or wiring in the same conduit with these lines and wire separate from them. Control circuits including auto switches may malfunction due to noise from these other lines. 5. Allow the load constantly. If the power is turned on without load, the auto switch will malfunction instantly. 6. Watch out improper wiring. DC24V auto switch with indicator lamp has polarity. The red lead wire is +, and black wire is - . If connected reversely, auto switch will operate but indicator lamp is not turned ON.

Maintenance

Warning 1. Examine regularly to prevent the possible danger due to auto switch malfunction. 1) Tighten auto switch mounting screws. If screws become loose or the mounting position is dislocated, retighten them after readjusting the mounting position. 2) Confirm if there is damage to lead wire. It may cause a poor insulation so replace auto switches or repair lead wire if damage is found.

Mounting/Adjustment

Warning 1. Do not drop or toss. Do not drop or toss or apply impact in excess of 300m/s² Although switch case is not affected, the inside of switch could be damaged and cause malfunction. 2. Do not carry a cylinder by the auto switch lead wires. This may cause not only broken lead wire but also damage inside of the switch by stress. 3. Secure the proper tightening torque when mounting auto switch. When an auto switch is tightening over the specified range, auto switch mounting screws, brackets or auto switches may be damaged. Refer to the catalog to know how to mount an auto switch. 4. Mount an auto switch at the middle of the operation range. Adjust the mounting position for piston to stop at the middle of the operation range. Refer to catalog indicates the optimum position and operation range. If mounting at the end of the operation range, the operation will be unstable.

이동 방향 A distance , between the position (ON) of auto피스톤 switch by moving of piston and the returning position (OFF) after reverse movement , is called differential response of auto switch. This is included in part of the operating range.

① Fix auto switch in the auto switch bracket by tightening [tightening torque 0.1~0.2N·m[1~2kgf·c m] ] mounting screw ( M2.5). ② Insert bracket into cylinder tie rod and tightening (tightening torque within1N · m[10kgf·c m ]) retaining screw to detecting position with hexagon wrench(4mm) for bottom part of auto switch to contact tube surely.

① Fix a mounting band to the position of auto switch in the tube

① Lightly insert the auto switch adapt into switch groove of cylinder body

② Put auto switch between band and adjust the hole ③ Insert a auto switch mounting screw into hole and screw lightly ④ Set detecting position and fix the auto switch by tightening mounting screw( The tightening torque of M3 screw should be within 1N·m [10kgf·c m ]) ⑤ Modification of detecting position should be made in order of ③④

② Insert the auto switch into auto switch adapter holding auto switch lead wire and position the auto switch adapter and auto switch to detecting position. And tighten the mounting screw (tightening torque 0.1~0.2N.m[1~2kgf.c m ] ③ For modifying the detecting position, loose 1/2 revolution and position the auto switch adapter and auto switch to detecting position and tighten the mounting screw (tightening torque 0.1~0.2N.m[1~2kgf.c m ]

② Do not connect switch in series (Indicator lamp may not be turned ON or load is not applied because of drop voltage inside the switch) ③ Do not connect switch in parallel (Although signal is generated normally, Indicator lamp may not be turned ON) ④ Keep the switch cord off other power source of electricity as far as possible. It has bad effects on switch and load. ⑤ In case of extending switch cord over 10m, there is a danger of welding when switch is turned off. So connect a choke coil (2mH) in series near the switch.
