Hi! My name is Sydney Robinson and I’m from Dallas, Texas. I am a senior at Texas State University where I will receive a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences in Interior Design in Spring 2024. As a designer, I value inclusivity and diversity, the very reflection of our world. I’m inspired by the people that surround me, from strangers to beloved family members. It is imperative not only to create a space that is functional and sustainable, but one that encapsulates a realistic way for daily living rather than a quick fix.

Fueled by elevating design solutions, I love where I can expand ideas away from the norm (this becomes evident in the schematic process) to improve user health and wellbeing curated from art itself. Eager to learn, collaborate and grow in curiosity as a designer, here are a few projects done in my time at Texas State University.

Patricia and Doug are retired in their late 70’s and want to give their house a emodel. The clients expressed the need for a multigenerational household with a special attention to ADA requirements.

Located just west of downtown Austin, Johnson city is a small town, home to Trisha and Doug. The Site is a ranch style home with lots of surrounding land native and synonymous with hill country.

Develop an accommodated remodel for a multigenerational home with those who are aging in place. With a dramatic change to the clients life with an unexpected leg amputation, accessibility is essential for navigation as well as catering toward daily needs.

the ranch studio I: residential design ranch life: bringing the best of the outdoors, indoors The new design for the ranch will include an open floor plan to provide an ease of navigation for the clients aging in place. The design will also strengthen the circulation of the space while highlighting privacy among multi-generations to allow clients to live individually. The ranch will become a modern twist to a western aesthetic through the use of architectural and design features. Warm and neutral colors will support the relaxing environment intended for the home such as browns, tans, and an accent color of blue. This color scheme will complement and balance the harmony between the interior and exterior.

The living room is inspired by ranch life and more specifically, longhorns. The wall is derived from Mies van der Rohe’s Villa Tugendhat and is the head of the longhorn. This wall is added to divide the space to emphasize privacy.

The bathroom utilizes a lighter color palette to allow clients to relax and unwind while in the space. The hexagonal tile flooring helps to restrict the possibility of falling.

Waterloo Greenway is a community-based organization with a partnership with the City of Austin to ensure equity, creek restoration, trails and bridges that promotes community engagement.

Located on the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, Waterloo Central sits on the corner of Sabine and 5th Street. The Site is a high tech style similar to the surrounding downtown structures with an easy traffic circulation to I-35, other major roads and the new Metrorail Station.

“Propose a positively stimulating and sustainably designed interior environment that offers unique experiential hospitality design which will entertain guest chefs and a rotating menu, high and middle end seating options, Waterloo Greenway Interpretive area, and a flexible art gallery space.”

waterloo central studio II: commercial design walk of life: from isolation to community The concept behind Waterloo Central derives from Waterloo Greenway trails combined with the global adjustment toward a sense of normalcy from the lingering effects of the Covid-19 Virus.

The design will highlight a circulation that will prompt user interaction leading into the dining space (community). The divide of the art gallery on the ground level creates a space for users to gain an interactive experience on their way in and when they depart. A mixture of natural as well as industrial materiality will assist with wayfinding throughout the space while creating a comfortable environment for the community.

03 the kitchen project

the kitchen project design graphics I the concept For this assignment, hand rendering would be tested into creating a final project. The design incorporated a farmhouse style kitchen with implementing subway tile backsplash and iron hardware for the millwork. The ceiling has white crown molding to connect the upper cabinets and to complete the look of a farmhouse/ranch kitchen.

04 the living room project

the living room project visual presentations and techniques deliverables For this project, the living room could have any theme or style. Mid-Century Modern was a style I wanted to try to render, especially in color. Inspiration was pulled from the sequel to The Incredibles, where the new home for the superhero’s highlighted on a style specific to the plot: midcentury modern. The space incorporates elongated furniture with the bold gold, gray concrete flooring to keep up with wear and tear and stone work on the fireplace to add visual contrast.

unhoused, not unhuman personal expressions

Often times, the reason why one becomes unhoused is misconstrued into stereotypes and as a result, can cause those fortunate enough to have housing to look down on them, even subconsciously. Throughout the past year I was able to interact with each person understanding their situation. Interaction allows unhoused people to feel comfortable enough to gain an experience with others in the community. In these quick sketches, I wanted to capture the beauty of who each person is and not what their circumstance is.

I love observing the nature that is among us and feel at peace when I hear waves crashing and birds singing.

In my free time I created a flyer for the first majorette team at Texas State University for their annual dance showcase.

When I’m not watching documentaries or drama shows, I love to watch anime. This is Bakugo from My Hero Academia.
