How to Repair Scratches on Leather Furniture Leather furniture is no escapist towards getting even the slightest hint of ruin. They are always prone to scratches, either from your pet or child or an unintentional slip. Scratches turn your upholstery luxury into an eyesore. Hence, many think that this makes the furniture eligible to be dumped away. Not quite so. Here are a few methods that can wring your scratched furniture back to life: Preparatory Measures: •

Always test the following methods on an unnoticeable area of your furniture as they might have a negative effect on your furniture.

Clean the leather furniture so that the extents of the scratch marks are clearly visible. It will also reveal the true colour of the leather.

Set a blow dryer to warm heat and blow it on the scratches. Try to massage the area with your hand. This will bring up some leather dye to fill up the scratches. You can then concentrate on the remaining scratch marks. Take care not to overheat the furniture.

Methods: 1. Go E-V-O-O: Your extra virgin olive oil might have another additional usage, besides pimping up your bruschetta or saving your cholesterol levels. This works great on minor scratches. Apply it directly on the scratch and rub it with a circular motion. 2. Buff it Up: Use a soft cotton cloth with leather oil or conditioner and rub it on the scratch in circular motions continuously until the scratch goes off. Buffing pushes some colour from the surrounding area into the scratch, concealing it in the process. Rest it for some time, and then clean any excess. 3.

Shoe Polish to the Rescue: Although they are not designed to colour your leather, they can still disguise scratches if the colour matches your furniture well. Rub the polish into the leather with a cotton cloth. Buff the scratch quickly with a clean cloth. This method is advisable for pigmented or coated leather.

4. Colour It: If shoe polish doesn’t do the trick, then leather colourant will be a better option. Consult your user manual or manufacturer to know the same. Apply the colourant according to the package directions. However, do so, only after you have buffed up the scratch. 5. Consult Professional Services: Deep scratches have the tendency to result into permanent wear and tear and can send your leather furniture to the dumping ground. If the scratches are too deep, then it is better you contact professional leather care services.
