Message from Mr. Ekstrom

“Respectful people have confidence in their own beliefs and values and acknowledge, understand and support the rights of others to express their beliefs.”

Classroom routines have been established, open house is over, fall book fair was a success and now we look forward to cooler weather, fire prevention week and parent/teacher conferences. Communication between home and school is an intricate part of your child’s education and I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher or the office to reserve a conference time on November 21st or 22nd.

November: Citizenship

The core value for October is Respect (see the box to the left). Please discuss with your son/daughter the importance of respecting everyone from public officials to school personnel to family and friends and even themselves.

“Citizens contribute to the community (local/global) in active, positive, and creative ways and encourage the participation in others.”

Reminders!!! ~When dropping your child off in the circle drive please pull as far forward as you can. It helps to alleviate the morning drop-off congestion. ~If you plan to have lunch with your child please call the office by 10:00 a.m. to make your “reservation”. ~Please cross the driveway at the marked crosswalk for after school pick-up. All students are required to cross there so we request that parents do the same. Children learn by example.

Citizenship and what it means to be a good citizen will be the focus in November. A perfect introduction to this core value is the Sycamore Kids Work day on October 14 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. All children who participate in helping clean up Sycamore will receive a free t-shirt and a kids meal coupon. If you’re interested in joining this group meet them at Somonauk and Elm on October 14. We will also vote for the yearbook cover on election day. As we move through the next couple of months I encourage you to model your citizenship by frequenting local businesses, participating in community events and exercising your right to vote. Sincerely, Mark Ekstrom

**Please Note** Due to parent/teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday there will be NO SCHOOL the week of November 20-24.
