CONTENTS

NURUL SYAHIRAH MUHAMAD Student of Architecture 2018 I started to have interest in architecture since young, where I began to draw imagined places as described from reading books.

Growing up in Melaka and travelling to places teach me to analyse socio-economical and natural context of that particular place.

Continuing my study in Melbourne had gave me exposure on the importance of digital design and performance software as construction tool. My journey of learning includes understanding of urban planning, landscape design and food industry.

Therefore, as a student of architecture, I am enthusiast to learn more about current architectural practice and exploring the potential of future built environment.

UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL, PARKVILLE Studio Fire Semester 2/2018 Tutor: Matthieu Begoghina The project is to add the 21st-century urban school as part of University High School, including a sports complex.

The state-funded school had projected an increase in student numbers in near future. The site centred between residential area, innovative centres and public transportation systems provide opportunities for the school to be a community centre. Hence, with student well-being as the focus, the proposed design is structured to encourage interactions between students, teachers and peers.

The computationally designed bird nest is a ‘synthetic simulation’ of a hollowed eucalyptus tree, a natural home for kingfishers. The form is derived by scripting of grasshopper; kangaroo and anemone had created multitude possibilities of bird’s nest system, unique to each variables feed. The prototypes are fabricated by using CNC milling and wood, as it is the most appropriate medium to create the desired biomorphic rustication.

Eucalyptus tree provide shelter to kingfisher. Branches for perching and the not so dense eucalyptus leaves provide suitable environment for kingfisher to hunt.

Kingfisher young hatchlings eat ants for food, help to get rid of predator of termite.

Mutualism Relationship Termite provide basic shelter for the kingfisher.

The constant temperature inside termite nests helps in the incubation of eggs.

HERRING’S PASS Studio Earth Semester 1/2017 Tutor: Toby The pavilion is located on Herring Island in Yarra River, a public park for adventurers. The material is rammed earth, giving the camouflage experience to the surrounding. The pavilion I designed to be durable and allow nature to take over, gradually becoming a secret place for adventurers to find.

Digital Design and Fabrication Semester 1/2017 Tutor: Matthew Greenwood Team members: Joo Liew Nurul Muhamad Yuting Yang Role:: Developing the 3D model and formfinding digitally, preparing technical drawings for documentation, assemblage

The light cocoon illustrates the idea of a second skin; a protective layer enveloping the personal space of a person. Using Rhino modelling tools and laser cutting as fabrication technique, the second skin is designed to be lightweight and self-supported.

Lights and reflective elements are details added to enhance the sensory experience to the user and viewer.

Role: Curating the exhibition elements and preparing for the opening night within a sub-team committee.

GAP is a student collective annual architectural exhibition in Melbourne School of Design. This exhibition focused on contemporary designers based in Belgrade, Serbia. The projects featured reflect the social context of the city and have been self-selected by the participating architects and design studios.
