Indians stack up offense in win over Panthers

Rural Retreat put up more than 300 yards of offense while holding Northwood to just north of 100 in a 47-6 Hogoheegee victory. The Indians opened up a 20-0 deficit in the first quar-

ter, showcasing a varied attack. Gunner Hagermen strolled into the end zone on a 13yard run to kick things off. Trever Shelton followed that with an 11-yard run to the

house, and finally Tucker Fontaine hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Roberts. Hagerman piled on before the half, taking a 27-yard run in for the score.

After the break it was Hagerman again, this time finding the end zone on a nine-yard run. Chaz Penwright added a score off a one-yard plunge. Jay Snavely put a final score on the board for Rural

Retreat, taking a fumble return in for a 60-yard score. Brandon Woodward gave the Panthers’ their lone score, legging in a 34-yard run.

Maroons handle Pioneer threat

The Maroons had a big second quarter to pull ahead of Fort Chiswell, holding on for a 55-38 Mountain Empire victory. Austin Repass got things started for George Wythe, scoring in the first frame off a 44-yard pass from Tandom Smith, who completed 11 of 13 passes for 221 yards on the night. The connection with Repass was the first of three touchdown strikes for Smith. The Pioneers pulled to within one, scoring off a four-yard run in the first frame. In the second quarter, Smith dove into the end zone on a three-yard run and then again found Repass, this time on a 36-yard scoring pass. Layton Kennedy put the Pioneers on the board in the second stanza, finding the end zone at the end of a 35yard haul. George Wythe closed out the half with

Brayden Rainey hauling in a 36-yard pass from Smith for the score. In a relatively quiet

third quarter, Smith legged in a one-yard TD for GW and Kennedy scored off an eight-yard

run for the FC. A high-scoring fourth quarter saw the Wythe teams battle back and

forth. Smyth ran in two more scores and Trey Rainey legged in a 13yard TD and a 26-yard

touchdown for the Maroons. Kennedy drove in an eight-yard score and a 57-yard TD.
