IFMSA- The Netherlands

International Federation of Medical Students’ Assocations- The Netherlands In 1951 IFMSA was founded. From the beginning, IFMSA-NL was a part in setting up the organization. We started as DMSA (Dutch Medical Students’ Assocations), then went on as NeMSIC ( Netherlands Medical Students International Committee). In the late 90’s we changed our name to IFMSA-NL. IFMSA-NL has around 750 active members. We have eight local committees, who represent IFMSANL. Five times a year we come together. We have four National Assemblies and our next one will be in December in Nijmegen. Around 200 members are attending a National Assembly, which are lasting a weekend. On Friday, we always start with our Standing Committee sessions. Afterwards, we get together with some drinks. After all, we haven’t seen each other for a couple of months, so we have to catch up! On Saturday, the plenary starts. It lasts the whole day, with some breaks for trainings or other activities. We end the day with a great party. Sometimes we also have a teambuilding activity on Sunday, but this depends on the OC. We also organize an annual Trainingsweekend, which is an amazing weekend in November, where we train our members and have a lot of fun at the same time.

It is the only annual weekend where we don’t have to gather together to discuss serious stu!. We just party a lot (and attend trainings of course ;)!) We have seven Standing Committees. These are the six IFMSA Standing Committees, but also EMSA (European Medical Students’ Association) is integrated as a Standing Committee in our association. The Standing Committee for European Integration organizes projects as Teddy Bear Hospital or Twinning Project. IFMSA-NL has a lot of projects. They di!er from peereducation projects, to awareness actions and other stu!. We also organize SCOPE and SCORE internships, so if you are ever interested in coming to the Netherlands: feel free to come! Next to these six Standing Commitees, we also have a Trainingsdivision and a Public Relations division. Our Trainingsdivision, TraiNL, organizes a lot of trainings every year. We have our own TraiNL trainingsacademy, where our members are being educated to become a trainer. We do this with an annual TNT. Trainers stay updated via the PostITs, the TraiNL sessions. In October, there will be the international TNT in the Netherlands, organized by our Training Coordinators.
