What is meant by the term 'challenging behaviour'; Analysing and managing challenging behaviour; The importance of Emotional Literacy in Promoting Positive Behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour; Connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and the role of schools in developing pupil awareness, and understanding of, their own, and others' emotions. An introduction to Restorative Practices; Possible impact of Restorative Practices on behaviour in schools; Evaluation of action research undertaken as part of the assessment.

Desired Outcome / Canlyniadau disgwyliedig : Assessment will be through presentation of a portfolio and two assignments, each of 4,000 words, at the end of each module.

Course outline / Amlinelliad y cwrs : The course aims to present a broad consideration of the nature of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and positive approaches to behaviour management. Participants will consider how to identify and meet the needs of pupils with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). They will explore a range of strategies to support the inclusion of such children and understand the role of the adult in creating a positive learning environment for all pupils and staff.

Learning objectives / Amcanion dysgu : On successful completion of three assignments the candidate will gain 3 units towards the Diploma of Professional Development in Education (DPDE). In addition, following a practical supervised teaching element, completed with the candidate's own student, BDA Approved Teacher status will be awarded.

Desired Outcome / Canlyniadau disgwyliedig : Teachers will be able to address the needs of pupils with dyslexic difficulties by:early recognition; detailed assessment; multi-sensory, cumulative support.

Course outline / Amlinelliad y cwrs : To provide candidates with expertise to work with pupils with dyslexic difficulties and to receive accreditation on successful completion of 3 assignments. To develop an understanding of the theoretical background and assessment techniques in current use. It focuses on enabling teachers to differentiate classroom resources and select appropriate strategies to support pupils with dyslexic difficulties. This is a 10 day course.

Target Audience / Grwp Targed : Class/subject teachers, support teachers, SENCOs, Headteacher and deputy heads.

This is an accredited course of 3 modules. Participants must be teachers with at least 2 years experience and be prepared to undertake 3 practical assignments.
