A new Lidl is coming to Laindon Place

What to expect over the coming months

Swan has confirmed that Lidl will be developing a new larger store as part of the Laindon Place regeneration.

Work on the Landmark and Laindon Place sites has now resumed. We would like to reassure our residents and stakeholders that Swan’s sites are operating in line with current Government guidelines to ensure the safest working practices are in place, signed off by Swan’s Health and Safety advisors.

When complete, the new store will be a relocation of the current Lidl branch on Manor Road. Swan have acquired the Manor Road site as part of the deal and will use it to bring more much needed homes to the area. Located at the Danacre end of the regeneration, the multi-million pound investment will see Lidl build a larger sustainable store with a 1,410m² sales area and more than a 20% increase in customer parking spaces. The location of the new Lidl store will enable shoppers to access the stores on the new high street, and facilities inside will include a fresh bakery, customer toilets and baby changing. Swan are currently preparing the site to hand over to Lidl’s construction team to enable work on the new store to start early next year. The new store should be open by Autumn 2021.

On phase 2B the groundwork will continue and on Danacre there will be a diversion in place so that storm water drainage work can be completed. SEP

The lift shaft on block C will be completed and work will start on the block D lift shaft. The steel frame at the top of the office block will be completed and work will begin on the roof covering. Work on the podium deck will continue and it is anticipated that the groundworks on phase 2B will be completed. OCT

James Hornsby students create ‘Love Laindon’ artwork Before lockdown Swan’s Laindon Place Regeneration Project Team worked with Year 10 students at James Hornsby School to produce pieces of artwork with a ‘Love Laindon’ theme. More than 150 entries were received and a selection of their artwork was put on display just as the whole country entered lockdown.

1st Place - Tabatha

Swan had to cancel an event celebrating the project so they sent copies of the artwork to some of the guest judges: John Baron MP, Mark François MP, a former student at the school, Deputy Mayor Cllr. Derrick Fellowes, local historian Ken Porter and Christine, a local resident who lives opposite the scheme There are ten pieces of artwork on display by the re-sited War Memorial and temporary retail units.

2nd Place - Alfie

John Baron MP said:

I commend Swan and the pupils at James Hornsby School on this excellent initiative to celebrate our local area. At this challenging time it makes even more sense to record our strong community spirit in this way, and I would like to extend my special congratulations to the winners.

3rd Place - Alice

Shaddow Group inspires young people through lockdown Swan worked with the Essex Local Delivery Pilot to launch the Shaddow Group project for young people living in Laindon at the beginning of the year. The group provides free weekly creative workshops for young people and they had just started working together to create music and films at the Laindon Community Centre when lockdown stopped them from meeting. The young people were keen to continue with their workshops, so Swan and the Shaddow Group took the group online and the young people have

continued to work together producing socially distanced dance routines, songs and performances which they have shared with the rest of the group. This work continues through the summer holidays with ‘Beyond Talent’ an online talent competition. You can view some of the Shaddow group’s work online at www.laindonfutures.co.uk If you would like more information on the Shaddow Group Project please contact involvement@swan. org.uk or call Swan’s Resident Involvement and Community Development Team on 01277 844242.
