Swamy Koragajja is a popular deity in the Tulu Nadu region of Karnataka. He is believed to have taken an incarna on in the human form as Koraga Thaniya, who lost his mother at a young age and was raised by his grandmother1. He was a devotee of Panjandaya Banta, another local deity, and carried seven loads of offerings to his temple. However, he was denied entry by the priests and cursed them. He then saw a citron tree leaning towards the temple and plucked a fruit from it. The fruit turned into a bell, which he used to invoke Panjandaya Banta. The deity appeared before him and blessed him with divine powers. He then became known as Swamy Koragajja
There are many temples dedicated to Swamy Koragajja in Mangalore and nearby areas. One of them is the Swamy Koragajja Aadisthala Kuthar temple, which is located in Kuthar village, about 15 km from Mangalore4. The temple is known for its annual fes val, which a racts many devotees and tourists.
