Lions Club

During our first fundraiser event in 2017, we pledged and became a gold sponsor for Asian Liver Center of Stanford University, a check in the amount of $10,000 was received by Dr Samuel So, also a chartered member of our club.

Our subsequence initiate came from our current members and families suffering from diabetes. Our very own foundation member Christine Young lost her fight with diabetes right after her member induction ceremony with our club in 2016. Some were lost during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our new direction coincides with the International vision of diabetes drive which was announced in the centennial convention in 2017.

Our first initiative came after discussing with chartered members and peers. We realized that almost everyone knows someone who suffers with hepatitis B infection, and in cases of an acute onset, family and friends who passed away from the infection. With how prevalent the disease is we knew then that campaigning to raise awareness for hepatitis B is a goal we can rally behind.

District 4-C4 Zone Chair Chair Charter President

When the Silicon Valley Lions Club was founded almost 6 years ago, the founding chartered members had one vision in common: improving our neighborhoods through promoting health, personal development, technology, and environmental awareness. We have spent our whole lives accumulating wealth and now it is time to give back. We want to set an example for our family and friends, to show that we can come together and work towards change in the greater community.

As a Zone Chair of Region 6, Zone 1, our additional goal is the bring the vision care awareness campaign to the community.

I would like to urge all attendees at today’s ceremony to support our new leadership to create a new direction and become active contributors and collectively raise awareness and funds needed for this course. Please join me in making this new administration a success!

2015-2017 Past President 2020-2021

Dr Reuben K Chen

President 2021-2022

President 2022-2023

During the Miss Asian Global Pageant in August, we matched the proceeds from the sale of the Miss Asian Global program book up to $1000 to be donated to the Hep B Awareness Campaign.

What are my new goals? 1) Continue to increase and retain memberships

I am excited and honored again to embark with my cabinet members, Jeff Sheibels, Annie Chen, Mary Koo, Reuben Chen, and Asia Kan. We look forward to rolling up our sleeves to serve!

I also like to give kudos to Lion Rose Chung and the Asian America Foundation, host of the Miss Asian Global Pageant and Imagine Talks for your love and support.

I am very proud to be part of a worldwide organization whose purpose is defined by our motto, “We Serve.” Doing the small things is as important as doing the big things.

We have partnered with Silicon Valley Cyber to help low income kids with school supplies and backpacks for the school year. We had our first annual outdoor picnic in July where our Lions Chefs cooked up a storm and served Sana Boba drinks to our guests.

Welcome to the 2022 Silicon Valley Lions Club (SLVC) Installation of Officers & Induction of New Members ceremony. Since the pandemic limited our bandwidth to fully serve our community in the past year, I feel unsatisfied because I wasn’t able to do more. Today, I am very grateful for another opportunity to serve as President of Silicon Valley Lions Club again as a 2nd term. The key to our Lions club success is through leadership, commitment and most importantly, team work.

2) Continue collaborating with other organizations to create fun charitable events. 3) Increase our community services. 4) Continue to Learn and Grow together 5) Teach and Share

Today we are installing 9 new members and 8 Associate members.

Vincent Ma

My three goals I vowed last year: 1) We will triple our membership. organizations to create fun charitable events. 3) We will continue promoting HepB awareness.

YOU CAN EITHER MAKE EXCUSES OR SERVE. YOU CAN’T DO BOTH! WE ARE LIONS, HEAR US ROAR!!!

First of all, I would like to express appreciation to our Founder and District 4-C4 Region 6 Zone 1 Zone Chair, Lion Dr. Reuben K. Chen for inspiring us to serve the community. A special thanks to my cabinet members who are also repeating the same term with me. We are also grateful for the support and guidance from Past District Governor Macy Mak, Past Council Chair, Emil Kantola, Lion Yvonne Kantola, and Lion Michael Chan.

As a Lions member, we serve the needs of our communities and the world through 48,000 lions clubs and 1.4 million members across 210 countries. I am fortunate to be one of the chartered members of the Silicon Valley Lions Club and to serve our community for those who needed. I am honored to be the Club president for the years 2017 – 2020 and participated in the 2017 Centennial Celebration of the Lions Club International in Chicago. Together with our club members, we raise fund for the Asian Liver Center of Stanford University, and for the Hepatitis B Awareness program in the Peninsula. We donate and serve food to the homeless in the local community church kitchen regularly. During the pandemic, we donate masks and face shields to the front line professional and help deliver food to the elderly in our community.

We are a Family of LIONS Our Motto is WE SERVE We serve through TEAMWORK We serve from our HEART Our ATTITUDE determines our ALTITUDE

It doesn’t matter how big or small your contributions are, what matters most is to make a difference to someone else’s life, and that should be our primary goal.

Jensine Chen is the 2014 Miss Entrepreneur and the 2014 Miss Women's Empowerment of the Miss Asian Global Pageant. She is very passionate about women supporting other women and uplifting others to achieve their goals. She is also the Charter Secretary of the Silicon Valley Lions Club and held that position from 2015 to 2018. She has organized and hosted fundraising events and a gala to promote Hepatitis B awareness and raise funds for the cause. Jensine currently works in Intellectual Property Prosecution Law, but plans to transition out of the law field and into something with a more creative outlet. She is making her presence known in the e-commerce and e-learning space through social media and other platforms. Her mission is to build an online empire through building her personal brand, as well as with her love of acrylic pour and resin art. Jensine hopes to inspire and empower other young women by showing them that it is acceptable to stray away from the norm, and that it is possible to successfully pursue their passions.

Mission

We strive to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to serve local and global communities, by promoting health, personal development, technology, and environment awareness through volunteering for the benefit of the general public.

Though this is more prominent in Asians and Pacific Islanders, it also affects other ethnicities as well. About 1.6 million people in the US have chronic hepatitis B, and almost half of those cases originated in America. Hepatitis B is transmitted through the same means as HIV; through mother-to-child infection, wound-to-wound contact, sharing razors or toothbrushes, reusing needles for tattoos, piercings, or injecting drugs, reusing medical needles or syringes, or through unprotected sex with someone who is infected.

Our focus is how we can use medicine and technology to benefit the commonwealth population. Thus far, we have partnered with the Asian Liver Center from Stanford University and are currently developing projects with them. The Asian Liver Center specializes in raising awareness for the silent killer, Hepatitis B, within the Asian and Pacific Islander community. Hepatitis B is the most common serious infection of the liver and can lead to premature death as a result of liver cancer or liver failure and kills more people than HIV. One in ten Asian and Pacific Islanders lives with chronic hepatitis B, but most people who are infected, are not aware of the fact. One in four who is living with chronic hepatitis B will die from liver failure or liver cancer. However, preventative measures can be taken with appropriate monitoring and treatment.

We plan to branch out to other organizations in the future as well. Though we are a new club, we are very excited to begin helping the community through health and technology. We hope to show people that there are a lot of underrated health related issues that affect the general public, and inspire others to join our cause. We are very passionate and dedicated to giving back to our community, and we are eager to see what is in store for this club.

As a result, the Silicon Valley Lions Club will act as a platform for this cause to promote the message Asian Liver Center has to share. We plan to help by organizing fundraisers to help fund research, arranging seminars to raise awareness and educate the masses, providing screenings and vaccinations, and much more.
