‘We look back at a enormously great period where we have learned a lot’

Winter sports After months of preparing the moment was finally here: wintersport 2016! A group of 28 enthousiastic students left to the French Alps at Sunday, the 28th of February. After a long busride we came in a beautiful winter wonderland, called Valfrejus. There were advanced skiers/boarders and people who were not that advanced. But there was something to do for everybody! There were made beautiful trips together with the ski instructor. Besides that the condition of the snow was really good because of the heavy snowfall. After a long day at the slopes everybody went tot the Celtic pub for a cold beer. After that everybody went eating in their own apartment or at a restaurant. We ended the evening in the Celtic bar, where the nominations of the ‘idiot suit’ took place. The SkiCie had bought a beautiful outfit for the person who acted really stupid that day. The one who deserved the nomination the most, had to wear it the next day.

second day was Marten the one who deserved the idiot suit. At the third day, the suit went to Ard, the ski instructor. But he didn’t wear the suit all day.. Because of this there was a proper punisment waiting for him! Unfortunately this week had to come to an end. After a long day of skiing, we needed to change clothes, get some dinner and leave to the Netherlands. We had an amazing week, where we laughed a lot and went down a lot of beautiful slopes! Thanks a lot SkiCie!

Our dear Ellen was the first idiot of the week. It isn’t very smart to go skiing as an unexperienced skier whithout a ski instructor, haha. The

RANDSTADTOUR KIC will leave for Amsterdam on the 16th of March with a group of 26 people. We will stay in downtown Amsterdam for two amazing days! On thursday morning we will visit the first company called Ogilvy & Mather Amsterdam . “If it does not sell , it is not creative” is the motto of advertising agency Ogilvy. The fact that they work for several large clients like KFC, Phillips, KPN, Rabobank, BP, Deloitte, BNN and so on, proves that they are able to fulfill the motto! After Ogilvy we will visit VICE Media. VICE is the largest media brand in the world that focuses on young people. In 1994, the first magazine was published in Canada. Currently VICE is active in almost fourty countries. Documentaries, programs and articles which are made by VICE will be shared via online, linear, mobile and social channels , and so hundreds of millions of people are reached every month. VICE has an international network of digital platforms, a television and film production company, a magazine, a record label, an in-house creative agency and publishing office.

paign, training or community management, they provide it all. Timm & Pimm works with major clients including DJ Hardwell. For the world tour of Hardwell Timm & Pimm managed all social media channels of Hardwell. They were responsible for the entire content creation, community management ,the design and implementation of social promotions and advertising. When we visit these companies we will get a guided tour and presentations. We will also work out interesting cases given by these companies . Friday we will leave in the afternoon towards Groningen again. We are looking forward to these days and hope to learn a lot!

After these two company visits and some free time in between we will have dinner in the city centre of Amsterdam and have a fun evening where you can explore the nightlife of Amsterdam. Friday morning we get up early to visit the company Timm & Pimm. Timm & Pimm is an online marketing agency that specializes in social media. They develop online marketing strategies for organizations and take care of their implementation . Whether it’s a strategy, loose cam-

s e o ik c gagreb! Z o t

We have experienced great travels in recent years to cities such as Budapest, Prague and Ljubljana. This year we travel to the beautiful and hopefully sunny City of Zagreb, Croatia. Croatia was in 1991 still part of the former Yugoslavia. Due to its geographical location and different states that ruled Croatia, there can be found several cultures. Croatian cuisine is versatile and has three main influences, perfect for the Italian and Greek cuisine lovers, Kebab from the Balkans and the typical Turkish coffee. For the sports fans among us, in Croatia football is the national sport. The stadium Dinamo Zagreb is also easily accessible for you. With a nice mixed group of 50 people we’ll travel to Zagreb to make it a memorable trip.

ICU I.C.U is doing great! They exist for half a year now and have organized several successful activities. The first study related activity was a company visit to the City Hall where they were given a tour and a presentation about the international policy of Groningen. At this activity more than 25 internationals were present and afterwards there were a lot of positive reactions. I.C.U also organized their first drink which took place at the Pacific Pub in Groningen. It was an exciting moment for I.C.U that night, how many people would come and would the party really attract the internationals? Fortunately, the drink was very cozy: a lot of internationals came by and the first drink of I.C.U officially became a success! Currently I.C.U is busy organizing their next study related activity and their next drink. They are also busy with organizing an activity for the anniversary week of KIC together with the lustrum (anniversary) committee. Would you like to stay informed about the upcoming activities of I.C.U? Start following them on their own Facebook page!

The first month is done! Four weeks ago I flew from Amsterdam Schiphol to Hato Curacao to start my internship at newspaper Amigoe. I was so nervous to get on that plane and actually go to the other side of the earth, but now I find it completely normal to live in Willemstad. Each day my somewhat rickety rental car, a Volkswagen Golf called Ladybug (yes, it is painted like a ladybug. Awesome!) takes me to my internship at around 8 in the morning. My internship consists of journalistic stuff and a part of my time is spent on helping the marketing department. This last bit is mainly processing new subscriptions and supporting sales persons who sell subscriptions at supermarket. The main part that I’m doing now is the competion Best of the Best for Amigoe Express (a free part of Amigoe, targeted on tourists). The people of Curacao could vote in catagories like Best Hotel, Best Beach and Best Insurance Company. And yes, the fist week of being an intern consisted of processing and sort all of the votes. You can imagine my excitement. Oh well, it was nice to get to know which shops I definitely have to go to while I’m here. By now, all the winners are known, and I’ve wrote little articles for every number 1 about what they do. And now I’m cruising all around the island to take pictures of the companies. Which is super cool, because this way I’m actually learning my way around. My geographical orientation of the island has improved so much in just one week. Especially because of the navigation app I downloaded (for which I dont need WiFi) I get around pretty smoothly. Alhough, when it doesn’t send me to super steep roads that my darling Ladybug can’t handle. Like last Monday when she decided to give up right before the top of the hill. Oh boy... Fortunately, I’m still alive, I wasn’t robbed (the incidente happened in a somewhat questionable neighbourhood, why did that app send me there again?) and I safely found my way back to the editorial office.

Obviously, the internship is not the only thing I do here on Curacao. Ha! My name wouldn’t be Zoë if I didn’t go a party or two. On the island you can find a party every night. You can compare it to Groningen, you just change the location each night. Tuesdays are for the Alley, Wednesdays are for Cabana Beach and Saturdays are for Zanzibar (dancing bare feet in the sand, super chill). And further there are organized parties, like Nachtwerk, Cabana Beach Festival and Zand. I went to and and it was awesome. Tanning with music in the background, doing a free boat trip and kayaking on the open sea. While kayaking with two of my roommates, we saw thousands of flying fish only few metres away from us. At that moment I realized that I am so lucky to be here to do my internship and to experience such amazing things that make everyone so jealous. K bye!

Lustrum ! Only three more months left until the lustrumweek of Study Association KIC! We are busy with organising the activities and arranging the locations so we can celebrate an awesome week. The week will be filled with nice and cool activities. Are you curious already and do you want to know what we have planned for you? Follow our Facebook page “Lustrum Studievereniging KIC and keep an eye on the website. Maybe we will give an update about one of the activities soon!

Design Studio KIC Design consists of 8 enthusiastic girls. Together we design a lot of promotional material for Study Association KIC. Mainly making posters for various events is central to our committee. I’m Maureen Old Avenhuis, 20 years young and live in the city of Groningen since September. Groningen is a vibrant and lively city full of students, because of that was my choice to study out to Groningen. I’m a freshman Communication, Multimedia & Design. Through presentations and information sessions from Berber Pieterson and Rosa de Raad (Board of KIC) I came to Studio KIC Design. I also heard from several classmates that they went to apply for a commission, so it seemed a fun challenge to also be a commission member. I had an interview with Jeffrey Breedenbach on the various commission and thus I was assigned to Studio KIC Design. My experience at Studio KIC Design is positive. We have a nice commission where we undertake many activities together, especially lately. We also make nice prints and we try to help each other where possible. For me Studio KIC Design certainly a fun commission where we can learn much from each other in the near future!

VALENTINE’S SPECIAL The Valentine’s drink was yet again a great success! The Ome Ko was packed full of people and there was a lot of beer drinking. The theme was thought up by our social activities commission and they made it big this time! At the entrance you were asked if you wanted a white, red or black strap around your wrist. White was taken / ready to marry, red was feeling flirtatious and black was up for anything. Ultimately, there were only white straps left! You can understand what kind of night it was… During the drink there were also two amazing Cupids present who brought secret love notes around this evening. All secret affairs and sneaky declarations of love were going all around in the Ome Ko. Nothing remained secret for our Cupids and our self-esteem got a boost! It was a wonderful night which we will remember for a long time!
