design philosophy Interior design first and foremost should be for the people. A designer does not design a beautiful space with the thought that no one will use it, interact with it, or be inspired by it.

Interior designers design experiences, not just spaces. They design the hotels we vacation in, the schools we learn in, the businesses we work in, the hospitals we heal in, and the homes we live in. We can create the most beautiful places the world has ever seen, but if people cannot experience it to the fullest extent, it is all in vain. I believe design should be 100% beautiful and 100% functional, both working hand in hand. Spaces should be usable for everyone that makes use of it regardless of their abilities or lack thereof. The world is full of diverse people filled with various takes on the human form, and a space designed for people should be a reflection of that, both in beauty and in function. Design should benefit everyone and not hinder anyone. Inspiration can be pulled from the natural environment, historic details, and cultural context to create a cohesive aesthetic that inspires those who use the space.

the leslie hotel senior level work

The Leslie Hotel is an inclusive hotel for those who are visually impaired or legally blind. inspiration for colors, patterns, and textures came from the coastal Miami environment. The deep reds are pulled from the beach umbrellas, the pinks from the sand, and the blues from the ocean. When using these colors, value contrast was addressed to make sure that those with visual impairments that can see something can notice plane changes. Contrast is specifically needed for people with poor depth perception. Value contrast is the difference of the Light Reflectance Value (LRV) The curves of the waves and umbrellas are inspiration for the patterns and architectural elements seen in the project. lobby The Leslie Hotel uses changes in floor texture to help others get around the space, much like sidewalk curb cuts. The change in material indicates to the guest that they are approaching something they need to be aware of. In the reception, the flooring material changes as one approaches the reception desk..

Lighting will be addressed in this project through limiting glare from daylighting and direct lighting. Using indirect lighting and diffused lighting will help create an evenly lit space that limits glare. The lights are also on dimmers to help create a more adaptable environment for those who need accommodations.

azhar city club hospitality design

senior level work

A​ zhar City Club is in Casablanca, Morocco. The space will be used by international business men and women. It is located on the 19th floor on the newly finished Casablanca Finance City Tower. The 15,000 square foot space will include a reception, bar, lounge, president’s dining, member’s apartment, and member’s suite. Azhar means “bloom” and “radiate” in Arabic and it represents how this building will bloom into a new financial district for Casablanca. The space will be delicate and light, creating a calming and cooling experience in a desert oasis. The space will play on the character of the historic buildings in Morocco with the use of patterns, finishes, furniture, and architectural features. The space will feel inviting with use of delicate details, patterns, and fresh colors.

Located in Boston, Massachusetts, Taste Market provides customers with unique and flavorful ingredients which are locally sourced but globally inspired. The space will house product displays for food goods, an employee workroom, a storage room, an employee restroom, a manager’s office, a checkout area, a cafe, and public restrooms. Taste Market sells local produce, baked goods, artisanal cheeses, fancy meats, and specialty items. Their cafe makes meals that are created with their products creating another meal alternative for busy professionals. A warm and rustic feel will be paired with industrial finishes creating an environment for customers to be inspired with their cuisine. Shiny brass finishes, rustic wood tones, patterned tiles, and sleek terrazzo will help to create a welcoming environment. Dark purples, greens, and blues will be paired with warm tans to create a cozy feeling.

Rococo is a fine dining seafood restaurant located in Boston, MA. The restaurant is inspired

by the sea and its inhabitants, as well as, the historic interior style, Rococo. Rococo was a historic style during the 18th century in France. It used shell motifs, delicate curves, and gilding.Slight curves, delicate details,and pastel colors will be seen in the space. Colors are pulled from the pink of shells, sand, coral, and salmon. Dark green is pulled from the depths of the sea and sea weed.The lighting was inspired by the movement of the sea and how light itself is seen underwater. ​​The fixtures itself will barely be seen but the light itself will be the focus.The light will define the mood through the use of the warm color temperature creating a formal environment.

nanna’s bakery historical furniture design junior level work

Violette Interiors has been hired to design Nanna’s Scandinavian Bakery in Helinski, Finland. A beautiful yet minimalistic space will be created through the use of bright whites and light mints. The stark colors will be complimented with natural wood tones seen in the floors, furniture and, ceiling. The design will emphasize natural materials like woods and marble. The custom stools were inspired by Nanna Dietzel’s hanging egg chair. It will be made out of wicker and pine. Its slight curves will compliment the rest of the design in the space. A 3d printed model of the stools were also created.

This project was picked to be implemented by Leadership Anderson’s tiny house project. A tiny house is being made in Anderson, SC for a needy family of four. The small space will include a living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom, bedroom, flex space, laundry room, and ample storage. Light finishes and furniture will be used to make the space appear bigger.

A young married couple with no children with their aging, mobility impaired parent have purchased a 1930’s era bungalow. The interiors was remodeled and added on to, spaces were reallocated, and finishes and furniture were picked out. The redesign of the bungalow meets the needs of their parent through meeting ADA requirements on the first floor.
