BRINGING BACK BROADWAY

„Bringing Back Broadway“ explores the process of memory growth and wear and tear. Each group of shots expresses emotions that, over time, change the respective spaces; old cinemas on Broadway Street in downtown downtown Los Angeles. I document how memories are navigated, creating in the viewer a romantic idea of easy accumulation of content. I am interested in the convergence and divergence of the different histories of the great and wonderful architectural and engineering feats of the 20th century in this part of the city. Observing through the lens of the camera, I see how the space is diluted, flowing like an hourglass, the memory of time, as well as the history and culture of the best theater and film palace districts. With the help of photography, I explore the impact that „Bringing Back Broadway“, this one-day festival of hundreds of performances, including performances on 10 street scenes and six of Broadway‘s historic theaters, has on the various processes changing the city and its boom and cycle. disintegration, along with the economic and geographical growth of the metropolis. ESTATE SALE PROJECT

In „Estate Sale Project“ I follow (document) how the sale of „real memories“ is navigated, creating in the viewer a romantic idea of easy accumulation of content. I am interested in bringing together the different stories of sellers and buyers. VENICE DIARY Text by Stoyan Yorgov – Tekata Venice / Los Angeles, CA

The concrete platform for skaters on the ocean - a place I love very much. Not far from the legendary studio of The Doors. I had arrived early that day, at 5:00 am there was almost no one. The concrete looked like gray-blue sculptures at sunrise. Sometimes, in the late afternoons of the day, depending on the light polished by the skaters, they look yellow. It is especially magical in the months of May and June (also called June Gloom), then there meet the morning cold of the ocean with the coming heat from the desert. Fog forms, the light is magical, and sometimes these skaters take off like in the clouds, thinning the earth’s gravity. I met a man (an adult child) who did not want to part with his favourite toy, the skate. The codes are quite mystical, how exactly they understand who will take off after whom, you have the feeling that some special center is directing them. The navigation is perfect; they look like swallows. Here I saw a 2-3-year-old child with his mother, she helped him patiently, some of the skaters watched her with a sweet smile, no one is angry that they are slow. The audience is very diverse in age, but everyone is having fun. I often meet some of the people there, like this friend of mine in the photo with whom we greet but don’t know each other. Here everyone greets each other, they

have respect for each other, because the stone (concrete) remembers their sighs from an early age, when they started, they walked on the platform. I watched this friend carefully judge and descend, making short respectfully accurate, dizzying tours of the platform. And he got the right dose of adrenaline, sat down suddenly to rest, or rather to give way to some impatient child, an arrow. There is a moment of peace, a pause, this very pause interests me, this tolerance in this man, this generosity towards the other, the smaller, the inexperienced. I have noticed that this is repeated, which is not accidental. Everyone with their experience, with their culture, makes these imaginary lines and they intersect beautifully, as in a dance. I turned around and saw that he was at the starting position again, and I saw that his skin reflected light with the same bluish value as on the polished concrete platform (the original frame of the film is in color) and was even better. He had a tattoo on his head. I raised the camera carefully so as not to embarrass him, he turned slowly, smiled, “I’m used to it” (was the expression on his face) and continued to monitor the flights of other skaters. I looked through the Viewfinder of my Leica M4-P, everything looked fine, the camera discreetly clicked! I rushed to the ocean, the fog slowly spreading across the surface of the water, approaching the wide sandy beach of Venice, it was time to leave.
