THE ARTIST BEHIND THE 2021 YOUTH POSTER

ANTHONY RICCARDI

ICFF Youth featured three lms that focus on the study of Indigenous Cultures, while also having a strong emphasis on Social Studies, French Language and Italian Language Studies. This program highlights the importance of knowing Indigenous Culture and the ways in which their values are expressed, whether it be through traditions, art, music, clothing, beliefs and ways of living. The ICFF Youth Indigenous Film Series included engaging content for students prior to the screening of the fi lms from respected members of Indigenous communities. Students heard from infl uential writers, artists and leaders of these communities who directly coincide with the representation of the Indigenous culture within the three fi lms. In addition, ICFF prepared an Educational Package which includes pedagogical materials for teachers to use for their lesson planning. It will aid teachers in creating engaging discussions about the fi lms by offering a 2-Way Teaching Approach: Anthony Ricciardi is a renowned multidisciplinary artist from Toronto, Canada, of Italian descent, who has travelled internationally showcasing his artwork and murals. Driven by enthusiasm, depth and storytelling to produce art without limits, Ricciardi introduces viewers to distinctive, vivid and colourful one-of-a-kind masterpieces orchestrated in uncommon forms.

Viewing the lms during school hours — IN CLASS or ONLINE

Teachers had the option of incorporating the fi lm screening as part of the in-class learning or online learning during the school day. Teachers could watch the movie alongside students, ensuring their engagement and participation. This also allowed teachers to pause the fi lm as the class watched, incorporating lessons and discussions based on specifi c scenes, words, themes or characters.

Viewing the lm outside of school hours — AT HOME

Teachers could request that students view the fi lm as part of their out-of-school learning within their homework. The teacher could then plan for the following day with activities, worksheets and discussions based on the students’ experience while watching the fi lm. This provided the opportunity for students to express their own insight on the fi lm and complete the activities set out by their teacher.
