Sutton United Football Club

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO? We are a community club who provide football for all ages and abilities in the local area and we now have over 50 teams ranging from U7’s to open age! Not only this, we also strive to provide the best entertainment for the local community.

We have a large sports bar with 13 screens showing all the big games including our local Midlands teams. We don’t just show the football though, we cover rugby, darts and other sports. We also have 2 darts boards with electronic scoreboards and darts behind the bar. If you love live music we also have that covered with live bands and entertainment each weekend!

IS THE CLUB FOR JUST MEMBERS? No, we welcome anyone here at our new facility in the heart of Sutton Coldfield.

DO YOU SERVE FOOD? Yes, we have lots of choice from wings, loaded fries and platters to luxury curries and mix grills.

CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN? Of course, we have a kickabout pitch anyone can use and also some inside activities such as the two Playstation’s we have to keep them entertained.

The Sutton United Soccer School hosts a multitude of development sessions for boys and girls of all ages. We are growing into an established club within the community as we continue to promote an introduction to the beautiful game.

All sessions allow for a pathway into our youth teams with the opportunity of joining a successful reserve and first team; men’s and women’s.

HOLIDAY CAMPS

A big part of the Sutton United Soccer School are the holiday camps that we host at our first class facilities here at Sutton United FC, every half-term.

These are fun-filled days from 09:00 – 15:00 and hold a focus in developing footballing skills whilst forming childhood memories for life! These holiday camps can offer kids a variety of benefits:

Discover new strengths and skills, building confidence in meeting new people

Have the opportunity to make new friends and build relationships

Build resilience through coping with change and adversity, overcoming fears, adapting to new environments and learning from mistakes

Take the opportunity to get active outdoors, improving mental and physical health

Learn to work as a team and strive to reach goals

MINI SOCCER SCHOOL

A range of drills and activities put together with the plan to develop different skills from week to week improving their overall game. This session is for boys and girls and is perfect for you if you are looking for more time to develop skills in isolation before a chance to show them off in an end-of-session match! The soccer school has been a growing success over the past year with more than 100 kids coming on a Saturday morning or Monday. We also use these sessions to select our new u7s who will start their first season in September 2025.

Sessions are either 08:45 – 09:45 Saturday mornings or 16:30 – 17:30 on Mondays with the girls on a Tuesday also at 16:30 – 17:30. To book see QR on flyer.

NEW U7’s PROJECT:

Our new u7’s teams will be picked from our soccer school. A squad of 24 players will be selected to form 3 competitive teams overseen by 6/7 coaches. All 24 players will train and socialise together with progress checks every 6 months, monitoring player development. After every 6 months, players can be moved between teams for their benefit with the aim to maximise development.

The aims of this project are not only to develop young footballers, but to also develop the kids’ social skills through forming small communities within age groups, rather than just a single team. With our new Sutton United Academy starting September 2025, there is now also an academic incentive to growing through the age groups here at Sutton United and playing, one day, for the academy and maybe even the first team ladies or mens teams.

TUESDAY - GIRLS NIGHT

Calling all future Lionesses! As part of the Sutton United Soccer School, we host a girls night with different sessions available so you can take the pick on what best suits you. These sessions are held by our ladies first team coach, giving the girls an insight into what the future may hold.

MINI SOCCER

The girls development session is a fun way to practice skills in isolation with a chance to show them off in an end-of-session match! This session has been a massive success and has continued to grow as girls enjoy their introduction to the beautiful game.

TUESDAY - GIRLS NIGHT

JUST PLAY

The girls just play session is a new addition, inspired by the successes of the boys just play session, and is designed to allow players to build confidence and practice in-game skills, free of the pressures of parents or coaches. This session is great for players at all stages of their footballing journey.

We started our girls session with small numbers and have grown it into 30+ girls as well as setting up 2 new strong girls teams with players from these sessions, all in a year!

These sessions are 16:30 – 17:30.

We are proud of how we have encouraged girls to get involved in the sport so far, and we look to continue to spread the love for the beautiful game with more sessions to come.

WEDNESDAY

- GOALKEEPER CLINIC

On a Wednesday we hold an elite goalkeeper clinic which is a great opportunity for aspiring 7-15 year olds to accelerate their progress as a goalkeeper in a fun and engaging session.

Covering a 6-week rolling, goalkeeping specific syllabus, performance can be improved in this session through building physical skills, technique and coordination. The session consists of goalkeeping related, high intensity warm-ups and drills with fun, competitive games to end.

THURSDAY - BALL MASTERY & FITNESS

Thursday is the day of our ball mastery, technique and fitness session which is currently loved by over 30 children aged 8-11. This session allows the children to build their allround footballing ability improving their technical, physical and mental strength.

The session has been a big success in part due to the 3 coaches running it who are passionate about developing the children while making it fun and enjoyable. We have seen so many of the children take this into their matches on the weekends and really thrive.

THURSDAY - JUST PLAY

Thursday is also the day of our very popular ‘Just Play’. Just Play sessions are simply football matches each week designed to give children without a team match experience and for those with a team more minutes. It is also designed to give children confidence and enable them to play with freedom and be able to express themselves. The aim is also to allow the children to progress their in-game skills without the added pressures of coaches or parents.

This session currently exists for 6-10 years but we look forward to introducing our ‘transition’ just play for boys in years 6 and 7, that is now available to sign up to on our class for boys system. This session is designed to help form relationships to make the jump from primary school to secondary school that bit easier for kids. This session is great for players at all stages of their footballing journey.

Sessions are 16:30 – 17:30.

OUR NEW SUTTON UNITED FC ACADEMY

We are proud to announce our brand new Sutton United FC Academy for post 16 graduates, starting September 2025. This elite academy will allow students to build their own opportunities for the future, both within education and football.

WHAT IS THE ACADEMY?

The academy is an education first, footballing project in association with BMET Sutton College. Students will have the opportunity to study from a large range of qualifications or a-levels, whilst improving themselves as footballers and people. Students will study for 12-14 hours a week, depending on their timetable, but could be more with the various studies, qualifications or courses available at the college. As well as this, students will have 10-12 hours a week of football time; whether that be training, matches or analysis sessions.

WHAT WILL SUTTON COLLEGE OFFER?

Sutton College emphasise that, despite the high level footballing development available, education is above all. They call this ‘education first’, where the progression of the students’ academics will be prioritised over their footballing development. As well as this, the college insist that students must have a high attendance to ensure that they achieve the required grades or qualifications at the end of their time. They call this philosophy ‘Development – Participation – Performance’.

WHAT WILL SUTTON UNITED FC OFFER?

Here at Sutton United we offer state of the art facilities as well as first class coaching to give players the best development through their time with us. As coaches, we will supply players with a technical and tactical development programme. This consists of in-year and end-of-year reports on their development, as well as weekly team and player analysis after each game which is uploaded to HUDL for players and parents to watch back. Also, in partner with the college, players will have the opportunity to complete a 1st aid course, the ‘Introduction to coaching’ course or the ‘Laws of the game’ refereeing course, giving them more options to stay involved in football after their time with us.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

From an academic perspective, depending on what the student is studying, you can continue further education at university or begin an apprenticeship. Otherwise, students will have the opportunity to continue studying qualifications at Sutton College. From a footballing perspective, here at Sutton United, we have successful u21’s, reserve and first teams for players to continue their journey with us. We are proud to have a direct pathway from youth football to senior football with players making progress across the club year-on-year.
