Born in 1994, I graduated in Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in 2016 with a B.Sc (Architecture & Sustainable Design). I am currently pursuing my M.Arch Degree with SUTD. I believe strongly in the notion of sustainability, both environmentally and culturally. Thus, building preservation, extraction of past knowledge and its application to design is what I am most interested in. I am very excited when I see traditional and contemporary designs co-existing together.

Fewer people indulge in physical interaction with one a n o t h e r.

Thus, the new campus envisioned would be one that creates, nurtures and maintains the interaction among users.

The existing site is one a linear road and thus, this project aims to break down the l i n e a r i t y, creating smaller clusters to better facilitate interaction.

B A S I C ELEMENTS

T he entire Singapore Science Park II is connected by a long, linear road. This is then read as an expansive plot of land that hinders physical interaction. Thus, the idea was to break down the huge plot to form clusters, through the use of sky bridges.

MINI CLUSTERS

The building element is simple. A rectangular cuboid measuring 10.5m by 3.5m is the standard building block. They are then rotated and placed at 90 degrees from the other to distinguish the private and semi-public spaces.

Tw o o f t h e L - s h a p e d arrangements makes up the building block of the smaller clusters. The last block, which is the public connection, is usually placed at the lowest level.

The first floor of the link bridge is the main access walk-way be tween buildings. People can then make their way up to co-working

spaces, shared living rooms and kitchen.

The top-most levels are studio apartments catering to expatriates living in Singapore for a short period of time.

Situated at the end of the Golden Mile development, this site seems to suggest for another icon along the road.

The podiumtower typology is very common along the stretch, exemplified by the Golden Mile Complex and The Concourse. Thus, the concept would be to re-interpret the existing t y p o l o g y.

Form Derivation: - The extension to a L-shaped limb provided additional space for units - Visual interaction between the podium level and the residential units - Slices were made to respond to Golden Mile Complex’s A-shaped frame

FINAL MASSING The final massing shows the continuous surfaces that starts from the ground floor and ends a t t h e o v e r h a n g o f t h e t o w e r.

Such fluidity is absent in most podium-tower type and thus, shows a contrast among the various icons.

FA C A D E D E S I G N The pattern for the facade design is based on varying degrees of p o r o s i t y. T h e s h a d e d a r e a s b e i n g the size of the holes. Each fin is a movable panel that allows the user to reconfigure the level of p o r o s i t y. H e n c e , t h e f a c a d e o f the building is ever changing.

FA C A D E D E S I G N The main facade faces the Marina B a y d i s t r i c t . To h i g h l i g h t t h e facade, a full curtain glass wall with varying width is designed.

It also showcase the link bridges within the building. Materials used for the facade are steel frame and milled acrylic.

THE NEW SKYSCRAPER The central atrium space is served by staircases, connecting e v e r y f l o o r t o g e t h e r. I n a d d i t i o n , the lifts are set to the back of the building, to make the atrium a more attractive route.

EMOTIONAL ENCLOSURES National Gallery is housed in Singapore’s most important monument: the Former Supreme Court and Former City Hall.

This project works with the layer of time: the 1930s w h i t e l a y e r, t h e 2 0 1 5 r e d layer and our addition, t h e g r e e n l a y e r.

In this project, I attempted to show the contrast between the exterior and t h e i n t e r i o r. T h e e x t e r i o r is a glass surface, easy to understand, whereas the interior is one that is dark, and attempts to brings about negative emotions in the users. / National Gallery Singapore/ / Film Room/

CONCEPT OF THE CUBE Above the location of the cube lies the Surrender Chambers, the place where the Japanese surrendered. Those periods were dark times. Hence, The Cube aims to emulate those feelings. The contrast in terms of materials and lighting helped enhance the feelings.

The design brief calls for the use of the same materials throughout the designs. For this project, the choice of material were black wood and glass.

Black wood portrays the negativity felt in the old context (white layer), something that was missing in the site because of the newly added roof.

The site is a patch of land with dense greenery on one side and grass patches on the o t h e r, surrounded by residential buildings and educational institutions.

The idea is to play with the contrast between urban and nature through programmatic rings that interweaves between indoors and outdoors, urban and nature.
