As spring pokes out a tentative paw Teddy has been ruminating on the changing seasons, sleeping through the winter and sleeping arrangements in general, all translated into something humans can understand through the keyboard of Helen Stockton

I

t might not always feel bed, in spite of the fact that like it, but winter is she has been provided with coming to an end a perfectly nice one of and spring is her own. In keeping poking a cautious paw with her stature out. I always feel a bit however, this bed is envious of animals smaller than mine, who hibernate. The and she clearly enjoys idea of taking to my lounging at full stretch, bed through all the whilst I’m curled up bad weather and short tightly in hers. I have days, emerging like a learnt to hold my ground, daffodil when the sun but then she piles in starts to shine, has its too. If I’m lying in the attractions. Emerging like a daffodil middle of my bed, there I am a dog who is not really room for when the sun starts to enjoys my bed. And it her to lie alongside, so is a very nice one. The shine, has its attractions she lies on top of me, actual bed is tough, making us look like a wipeable plastic, but I have a memory couple of stacked croissants. foam mattress with a soft, fleecy cover During the night, since Bear was and a bolster that runs around the back a small puppy, she has been sleeping and sides, so I have somewhere to rest in a small, soft crate, to hinder her my weary head. Unfortunately for nocturnal ramblings and me, Bear also likes my potential for chewing.

However, she recently decided that this arrangement no longer suited her, and made her feelings plain by keeping everyone awake with scratching and barking. After several nights of trying to find alternative arrangements that didn’t involve her disturbing me, ‘Them Indoors’ gave up and blocked off the small area, by ‘Her Indoors’ side of the bed, where I normally sleep, and put Bear in with me. She immediately settled down, either in with me, in my bed, or occasionally, actually in her own bed. Sorted, for Bear at least! Sleep is important, and, if I say so myself, something I am rather good at. I even look cute whilst I am doing it, which, to be frank, is more than can be said for ‘Them Indoors.’ And I never have any trouble sleeping whilst ‘Them Indoors’ fuss over different weight duvets, windows open or shut and blackout linings to the curtains. My problem isn’t so much the getting to sleep but the waking up, particularly if I am expected to go out walking in inclement conditions. Still, as the mornings are getting lighter and the birds are starting to sing, who knows, I might actually be tempted to arise, if you’ll excuse the pun, with a spring in my step! l
