howcasing glorious late Georgian architecture, Dudley Mansions Hove has been beautifully renovated to create a number of stylish and desirable rental apartments, bringing residents the opportunity to live in a building that has hosted everyone from the Queen, to Ian Fleming and One Direction. THE PAST Located at the bottom of Lansdowne Place adjacent to Hove Lawns and the seafront promenade, Dudley Mansions was originally built as a terrace of grand houses during the 1830s. Collectively known as Lansdowne Mansions, one of these impressive homes was named Dudley House and after a short spell as a private boarding school, the property was run as a boarding house from the mid-19th century. By 1880, Dudley Mansion Boarding House was being run by Alphonse Fortune Lamette, who expanded the business over the following decade to include the whole terrace. Guests enjoyed electric lighting in public rooms, a gracious drawing room and billiards room with full-size table. Clearly a place of conviviality, in 1885 Lamette was fined by the Inland Revenue for selling beer, wine, sherry and tobacco without the appropriate licence. The next significant owner was Benjamin Herniman who took over in 1911. Adding the grand entrance arch
