THE HORTICULTURAL PLAYHOUSE + POD HOSTEL 4

HOSPITALITY+SHELTER

The PROPOSAL OUTLINES a space for refuge, through the Hostel Hub mainly to address people who are experiencing homelessness. Additionally, 10% to 30% of the sleeping pods will be available for light travellers seeking budget friendly places to stay; this is to discourage social stigma and isolation experienced by many homeless people

SKILLS + EMPLOYABILITY

Learning new skills and increasing employability is encouraged through the introduction of: a Glass Workshop to learn about local craft and support local artists and businesses ( e.g. Local stained glass artist Grace Ayson); a Kitchen Workshop space to carry out cooking clubs and lessons ( e.g. cookery classes with Migrateful).

ENCOUNTER + PLAY

Encounter and play are encouraged through the dining hall and bar; the addition of the play station wing which includes a rock-climbing area, pc lab, snack bar, playground and the several club/ workshop spaces; this is to address the lack of spaces for young people to interact or engage in play.

REGENERATION

The proposal also includes a vertical farm sustaining an aquaponic and hydroponic system, a rooftop community garden which will provide the local community alternative sustainable, method of food production.

‘RESTORATIVE WATERFRONT’

RAMSGATE SEAFRONT, KENT, ENGLAND

December, 2017

This project focuses on sustainable urban design, with the design task involving the redevelopment of three sites along the seafront, of the historic coastal town, of Ramsgate. Overall the proposal aims to improve access to the coast, for example with addition of the cliff side elevator. Additionally the proposal takes inspiration from the context and history of the site; e.g. the arched porticos in SITE A, mirror Ramsgate's cliff arches.

1. Relocate boats to the outer harbour because they limit visibility and discourage movement. Additionally a fully pedestrianised seafront will improve connectivity between all three sites .
