2021 2022 SUSD ANNUAL REPORT

Engaging all students in world-class, future-focused learning

The focus of the 2021–2022 school year was inclusion and students’ reestablishing a strong sense of connectedness to their campus and community after having successfully navigated the challenges presented during the pandemic.

Back in person for state assessment tests, SUSD students outperformed their statewide peers academically. While there is still work to be done, we are proud of the dedication to excellence demonstrated by our students and our teachers who support their success. SUSD had less learning loss than peer districts and that is a testament to the students, staff and parents who worked to support academic achievement and learning growth no matter the obstacles.

GOAL 4 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PARTNERSHIP

www.susd.org/Partnerships

Foster relationships with mentors, volunteers, and business partners to provide real-world opportunities for students that enhance and strengthen our community.

Coronado Promise

In 2021-22, the Coronado Promise Scholarship expanded, providing even more students with the opportunity to pursue a debt-free college education. The Promise is made possible by several community partners, including the Coronado for the Future Foundation, SUSD, the Scottsdale Charros and their foundation, and Coronado graduate Robert Flick and his family’s foundation.

The Coronado Promise granted 25 scholarships to Class of 2022 graduating Dons.

The Promise has also evolved into a K-12 promise of supporting early college aspirations, helping students recognize their post-secondary dreams without the fear of debilitating debt.

Graduating seniors know that they take with them the full backing of not only the Coronado Learning Community, but also the Scottsdale Unified School District community. Learn more at www.susd.org/CoronadoPromise

Student/Teacher Ratio

SUSD recognizes the importance of smaller class sizes, which enable students and staff to more readily connect and excel in the teaching and learning process. Creating an environment in which staff are able to devote the necessary time, attention and differentiation in instruction to accommodate varying learning needs provides opportunity for greater success.

21 Scottsdale Unified School District | www.susd.org Student/Teacher Ratios 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 Students per teacher 18.3 17.3 17.2 16.7 15.7 17 Average years of teacher experience 13.9 13.5 13.6 14.3 14.4 13.9 Percentage of teacher in first 3 years 13% 20% 19% 15% 9% 13%

Operational Efficiency Measures

There are many elements responsible with running successful schools. In addition to the teachers who drive academic achievement in the classroom, there are the bus drivers that first transport the students to school. The facilities team is charged with maintaining the grounds and buildings to ensure an educational environment suited for world-class, future-focused learning and Nutritional Services ensures every child has the food necessary to fuel their mind.

Staffing

Meeting the needs of nearly 22,000 students requires a diverse and talented group of staff members including teachers, classroom aides, interventionists, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria service, curriculum coaches, facilities, finance and human resources to support each aspect of the classroom experience and ultimate academic achievement.
