The concept for this Multi-Unit Housing project seeks to integrate various communal spaces for residents. Additionally, it aims to provide individuals with private balcony spaces, where they can relish neighborhood views and the serenity of the park. Addressing the limited view for the south side, the building angles itself to allow the south side units to have a park view

The inspiration from the park being a hub of diverse activities within the community led the building to have the expression in the wave-like facade wrapping around, giving rise to the project’s name, “Wavelet”.

Given the project’s limited space, the duplex design employs a zigzag pattern to maximize space utilization for its two units. One unit faces the street, while the other faces the backyard. Addressing the challenge of limited natural lighting within the building, a light well was integrated into the design. This feature ensures that every room and the stairs in both units receive ample natural light, eliminating any dark corners. Additionally, the light well serves the purpose of facilitating ventilation flow from the lower floor to the upper levels.

The site is surrounded by high rise buildings, which restricts the amount of available sunlight. To address this issue, the design intends to incorporate a glass facade, which will allow more natural light into the space

This design draws influences from the constant movement and Toronto’s liveliness and its inhabitants, with the building being aptly named “Living Artifact”.

The Pavilion is placed at the end of the market to serve the purpose of providing shade, seating and a washing station for the food people bought at the market. The main inspiration for this pavilion are vegetables and fruits sold at the market

The concept for this pavilion is surrounding the idea of freshness from vegetables and the festive vibe that the market gives off. Which comes to the decision of having the pavilion’s form as the vegetables and lantern that represent the festival.

Using the existing scattered activities on site, it leads to the main idea of blending the nature of the park and the program activities on site, fitting for all seasons. By unifying these two factors, it creates a smooth transition between the busy Dundas West Street together with the greenery. It also creates productive and healthy spaces for the community, as they engage in the activities and walking through the buildings, they interact and feel nature at different moments, both inside and outside.
