Community Center

Radiant Hub

The project is located in Roland, Iowa, a small rural community Our site is a former bank on a narrow corner lot on the southern end of downtown Roland. Due to a storm in 2021, in Roland, the building lost its roof and floor, leaving just the facades. The building had a history in this town, therefore I decided to use adaptive reuse method to design “Radiant Hub”. The design resmebles green houses, which are commanly seen Iowa. It is a steel frame structure with polycarbonate allowing natural light to permeate the interior during the day. In the evening, the same polycarbonate emits a subtle glow, transforming the space into a welcoming beacon. This dual functionality aims to transition between practical daytime use and a warm, community-oriented atmosphere at night.

Studio Project

Wright's Home - Studio For Two Mini Solar Hemicycle

Using a grid, the project was to design an adition/guest suite and studio for two architects on the site of an exisitng Frank LLyod Wright house. The house that was assigned to me was the Herbert Jacobs II house, also known as the “Solar Hemicycle” due to its passive solar heating and natural cooling design. The main Idea behind the design os this project was to design an addition that borrows some elemets from the original house and does not intervene the Jacobs II house’s natural heating and cooling mechanisms as wells as its view of lush greenery. Resulting in the addition being placed next to the original house. The final design was a mini version of the Jacobs II house, that replicates the original house’s natural heating aided with the south wall, and cooling with the extended earth berming . Furthermore the addition’s floor plan has been laid on a mini version of the grid Wright hasd used to design the original
