Gala Dovalina Núñez

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

French because I never thought that I would learn this much french in one year, I also never thought I would be able to do the DELF exam.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

For me one of the best moments was Tanzania because I learned things that you do not learn by watching your phone or going out with your friends.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Being away from my home, family, friends, school and my normal life. This year I found that Surval became all of that.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Becoming more independent. Being away at boarding school has really tested me in ways I never thought possible, pushing me out of my comfort zone.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I was really inspired by the friends I made here and all the teachers that were always there for me.

What are your next steps?

Going back to my old school and finishing school to go to university.

Ana Sofia Avila

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

All the trips, and the ski season, it was amazing.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I think Tanzania, because it was completely something new to me, but it was something that I’ll never forget.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Being away from home, because I missed my family and friends a lot.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Learning how to ski in 3 months.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By being with my friends, and having better grades than in Mexico.

Go back to Mexico, and go to school.

Roberta Lasheras

My good grades and all the friends I have made and learned new things and techniques.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I really liked going to Monaco.

By counting my dreams.

Mariana Castellanos

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

All the classes I had and also how each term I improved my grades and every time I was proud of myself because of all the feedback that my teachers gave me.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

All the trips and the plans I made with my friends and also all the friendships I made this year are some of the things I will never forget.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

My biggest challenge this year was learning French because I came here without knowing French and I have improved a lot.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

I learned to do a lot of things by myself and to be more independent.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

All of my friends that I made here inspired me and also being really far away from home and from my family.

Sofia Briseño

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

I have many highlights from all the classes but above all how much I was able to progress in the classes.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

My favourite moments were at school, the girls, we created a beautiful bond that I will never forget since it helped us a lot to get to know each other better.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Coming to an all-girls school was difficult at first. Something that was very difficult for me was the academic subjects since I did not understand English 100%.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

I improved a lot in English, I learned French, it is difficult for me to speak it but I managed to understand it.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

My friends, mom, dad, sister, brother, all my family and that I´m going back home to. They inspired me to keep going this year.

What are your next steps?

Finish my school, find a good university

Maiia Sokolova

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Trip to Boston for MUN, my first time in Monaco, passing delf, my first ski season.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

In Monaco every night me and my roomie Vivian were ordering room service with deserts and were drinking tea with them on the balcony, gossiping about everything.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Living in a building with lots of girls. I am an only child so I have never shared a room with anyone or spent 24 hours with a person.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

This year I was the leader of one of the student voices. For me it was really challenging because at first I was really shy and scared to talk or take responsibility.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I was inspired by myself. Surval has taught me how to do that. Every step that you take should inspire your next step on your huge pathway.

What are your next steps?

Now I am in doubt. I will definitely stay in switzerland but I don’t know if I will change place of studying.

Anzhelika Stetsenko

Grade: 9

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Trips to France (Strasburg, Colmar, Paris) and London, UK.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Hiking up a mountain to reach the top and find a beautiful lake. We stayed overnight at the top and hiked back down again the next day. I was proud of myself because I did it even though it was hard.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Friendships have been challenging for me this term. I have been working hard to overcome these difficulties and move forward with positive relationships.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Communication skills. This has improved greatly as I now feel more confident in English.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

Learning English more and more.

What are your next steps? I have worked hard this year to focus on learning English and develop my relationships. Next year I will focus on my wellbeing.

Olvido Nogueda Cerritelli

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The people and friends I have met, the engaging academic challenges, the trips and activities we have done.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

The moments in which I learned things about others and myself, the moments I hung out with my friends and had fun, the challenges I overcame this year.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Balancing my academic grades with the outside life activities, but it taught me invaluable time management skills.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? learning to grow despite the tough times, the maturity of overcoming challenges, and the result of my effort in different topics.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By my teachers’ passion for their subjects and the support and encouragement from my friends.

What are your next steps? To continue excelling academically, participate in leadership placements, prepare to go back to Mexico after 3 years.

Marina Moreno

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The atmosphere in my class.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

When the fire alarm started going off late at night and I went out in my robe.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Adapt to the methods taught in Switzerland and the time difference between Mexico and here.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Learning to be independent.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

To make new friendships. To make new friendships with girls from all over the world, meeting new people, sharing experiences, and learning about different cultures.

What are your next steps?

Go back to Mexico for the 3 years I have left in high school.

Vivian Rivera

Grade: 9

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Visiting Boston and attending MUN at MIT. I learned so many new things and met so many people from around the world.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Boston. We had one free day to which me and the MUN girls took to explore the city, go shopping and try many different American foods.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Managing friendships. I had been homeschooled in the past, and had never really had a solid friend group or really had ever been with so many people for such prolonged periods of time.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

learning how to play guitar and piano on an intermediate level with only a few months of practice.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

To learn new skills and languages, and to improve heavily academically, for example taking advanced courses of certain subjects like history and maths.

What are your next steps?

Taking piloting lessons, continuing to work on piano and guitar, enrolling into an IB program for 11th grade.

Arleen Diaz Pratt

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

For the first time I spoke in public in another language and the moment in my English class when I wrote an essay and I obtained A+.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Tanzania project, that trip was the most memorable and amazing trip ever, because we learned a lot, we grew a people, we got to know each other as a team.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

My biggest challenge in Surval was the Tanzania service project, that was the most challenging trip.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

My personal growth, I am so proud of myself.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I was inspired this term when I saw the huge improvement in my grades, and how I could learn French in one year. My family helped me a lot this year.

What are your next steps?

I am coming back to Surval, complete to my High School Diploma.

Carmen Leon Del Rivero

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The trips and activities.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

The first time or the times I went snowboarding, I love it and now I want to do it a lot more.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Trying new things because of being scared if the result is bad.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Either learning as fast as I could with snowboarding or becoming more confident with doing presentations and presenting in front of people, even if it was a small number of people.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

Trying new things, especially in activities or in art.

What are your next steps?

Doing more of that.

Duru Kadak

Grade: 10

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

We have had ski week this term which was a challenging but different experience. It was nice to see the mountains, however, it sometimes pushed me over.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Everything because this year has been different from the past years, I find myself more mature and can see the growth compared to the past years.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why? Academic stress because of university. I remember at some point in December, I couldn’t sleep because of the anxiety about my uncertain situation regarding college acceptances.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? I find myself changing and growing, my thoughts are evolving constantly.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

My family has been a great support for this year and I find myself inspired by the goal of making them proud.

What are your next steps?

I’m graduating and can’t wait to see life at university. I’m really excited to see the person I’ll become and my studies.

Evgeniya Kolenichenko

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

My lessons have been challenging this year but I have worked hard and made progress.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I will remember my friends. I will miss them and remember them forever.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Probably the academics. But even though they were challenging I didn’t give up and I kept trying.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? Growing my friendship circle and improving my personal relationships.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I have seen that if I work really hard at something then I can make progress and this has inspired me to keep working hard.

What are your next steps?

I will be continuing in my new school, probably in England.

Maria Luisa Ablanedo

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Making new friends and getting to know different cultures and different languages.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Being roommatea with Arleen Diaz, she really got my heart and she is a really nice person.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Trying to control my anger and be apart of my family.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Speaking French I started at A1 and now I am at A2.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I have been inspired this year by my friends and my family supporting me.

What are your next steps?

Achieve my goal of having perfect French and make more friends.

luciana Villa

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The trips and making new friends, new places and new experiences that I’ve never lived before.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

When I found my group of friends, and knew that these girls were now part of my life, how we were just strangers and now were the best of friends.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

The DELF exam, all the studying and work and effort we put into the exam was hard.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Learning French, learning to live in another country where everything is different to Mexico.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By Ms. Vipond listening to my aspirations.

What are your next steps?

Graduate from school and move to LA, work hard and become an actress.

Valeria Baloyan

Grade: 10

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Meeting new people has been one of the best parts of the school year. I plan to keep in touch with the friends I’ve made at Surval.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I won’t ever forget anything. I’m the kind of person that always records everything, and my pictures hold many of my memories.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Being away from home has been the hardest challenge I’ve faced this year. It’s difficult to be twelve hours away from home via plane.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Making it through the year and creating lifelong friendships is my greatest accomplishment of the year.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

My inspiration comes mainly from my teachers and other staff members. They work really hard to plan lessons, holidays, and other activities that help us improve further.

What are your next steps?

To go back home and spend time with my family. I’m going to go back to my normal routine and concentrate on my schoolwork.

Natalia Reynoso Ampudia

Grade: 10

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The atmosphere and how easy it was to learn with my grade and my teachers.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

All of the travellings with my friends and the late nights in each others rooms.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

French because it was a language i knew little to none of and as the year progressed i definitely saw myself improving.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Getting that 82 in French because it was something I truly thought I was terrible at and it made me feel pretty good about myself.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By seeing all of my fellow students and teachers evolve from the person they were to the people they are now I think all of Surval grew hand in hand.

What are your next steps?

Finishing high school in Mexico and being able to get into a great college which I now know how to get there thanks to the millie program at the beginning of the year.

Ivanna Bernal Zamora

Grade: 11

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Making new friends and getting to know myself better.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

We were in Anzere for ski week and i got a torn ACL because I fell and it kept me from finishing ski season and also when I go back to Mexico.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

My biggest challenge this term was to get used to being away from my family and friends and feeling at home in Surval.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

One of my biggest achievements this year was learning to be by myself, the things that I like and I don’t and I think this will help me in the future because I’ll be able to make better decisions.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I’ve been inspired by all of the progress I’ve made and how my grades have improved because knowing what I’m capable of doing motivated me to be a better version of me.

What are your next steps? I’m looking forward to graduating next year and then going to college.

Anaeliz Naranjo

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Traveling with my friends and getting to know girls from different parts of the world.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I will remember the Italy trip.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Getting to know how to say no and understand that we are all different no matter if it’s the same country.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Understanding that friendship is very important and needs to be reciprocal.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I have been inspired by many of my friends and family who always supported me even across the world.

What are your next steps?

Using all my learnings not only academically but also the physiological, knowing how to put limits it’s not easy but also understanding my own value as a person.

Malak Linjawi

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The highlight of this year for me has been skiing. It was incredibly fun, and I especially enjoyed ski week. And being with my friends made it even better.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Spending hours drinking tea after dinner with my friends watching the sun set and laughing together.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

The hike in the beginning of the year has probably been the most challenging part of this year. It’s the longest hike I’ve ever been on and especially when there wasn’t any WiFi on top of the mountain.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Hiking that mountain in the beginning of the year is probably my biggest achievement of this year.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I have been inspired by my friends, teachers, and boarding staff!.

What are your next steps?

My next steps are finishing school, graduating, and going to college and never thinking about school again!.

Isabella Velasco Noriega

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

My trip to Tanzania, a trip that changed my life in different aspects and showed me the reality of things, and the ski week.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

I will always remember the moment I became closer to my friends when we had our trip to Italy and we had the opportunity to meet each other.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

The weeks of skiing, it was a great challenge since it was a lot of effort and resilience but at the end of the day it was the recovery.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

My greatest achievement was putting effort into the academic part to repay the great opportunity that my parents gave me.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

Having my friends with me was a part that inspired me a lot, and the great support that the teachers gave to us.

What are your next steps?

Return to my country to graduate and enter to my dreamiest university in Madrid.

Monse Hernández

Grade: 11

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

The incredible teachers. My favourite academic experiences have definitely been with the teachers, especially in AP Literature and Business.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

My favourite part of the year has been the trips with my friends. It’s been awesome getting to know new cities and countries.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Balancing academics and social activities. With all the travelling we’ve done, I’ve worked hard to maintain good grades while still enjoying the trips.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Completing the AP English Literature class and finishing the exam, which was really long and difficult.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

My classes and teachers. They’ve helped me set goals and dream about getting into good colleges while pushing myself academically.

What are your next steps?

To return to Mexico for my senior year. After that, I plan to attend college in either the United States or Spain.

Quel Tang

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

I have caught up with a lot of work and prepared for the final exams in a quite short time.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

When my worksheets flew away! They were on my balcony and I was downstairs and all of a sudden we saw them flying past the window.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

I had a period of absence and catching up all of the work was a real challenge.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? Having desert. Everywhere we have been, the desserts are delicious and now I have the nickname of the dessert queen!.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

The views are amazing, the spring was so pretty and the summer view is amazing.

What are your next steps?

I’m going to enjoy my summer holiday.

Sara Huerta

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Having good grades, learning a lot of things or understanding things I didn’t understand before coming to Surval.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Going out with my friends to dinner or to other places in Switzerland is something I won’t ever forget because it was the first time I felt independent and free.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Adapting, it was really difficult for me to change something I was really used to doing or the people I was used to hanging out with.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Being independent, I have always been very responsible but I think that’s because I am an older sister but being independent is something that started here.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

My family, everything I did was for them, they were my inspiration to keep going even if it was really difficult for me to not see them everyday, but I did it.

What are your next steps?

Going back to Mexico and finishing high school, I will start studying a career also in Mexico and if I have the opportunity to go out of my country again I would take it.

Romina Rodriguez

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Visiting so many new places with friends and opening myself to different cultures and regions. Another highlight was snowboarding in the winter term with my friends and making big advancements in the sport.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

The service trip project to Tanzania, Africa. This is a building block in my life that I will always take with me and is unforgettable.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Being on my own. I had never been so far from my family and for such a long time, so I think taking matters into my own hands has been my biggest challenge.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Learning French. In the past I have attempted to learn, but it wasn’t until I came here that the language actually stuck to me. Although I am just a beginner, I’m proud to say I have learned in the few months I’ve spent here.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By my etiquette teacher Mrs. Vipond. I admire her for being so culturally knowledgeable and involved in the news, and she has inspired me to want to be that as well.

What are your next steps?

After Surval I will enjoy the rest of my summer with my family and friends before I am off to SMU College in Texas. I will be majoring in Business and Design and will maybe minor in French to keep what I’ve learned here in practice.

Alisa Filippova

Grade: 12

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Meeting new people and making international friends.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Trip to Musée d’Art et d’Histoire with Mrs. Premand.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why? SAT and APs as they are challenging.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? Get accepted to the university, pass my exams.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By my teachers I was inspired a lot, especially by Miss Premand and Miss Pelosi. I was trying to be as responsible and organised as they are.

What are your next steps? I will study in university in Geneva.

Livia Sarkis

Grade: 12

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Being finally done with university applications was a huge relief but the friends I have made here were definitely the biggest highlight of my year.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

The occasional feasts we had when Malak and Ivanna brought Za’atar and Labneh to the dining room and the Arabic tea during Ramadan.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Trying to stay on top of all the work was a huge challenge. Taking 3 APs meant a huge amount of work .

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Getting into my first choice university, it felt like a miracle.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

Ms. Premand made history incredibly interesting, so much so that for a while I was thinking about switching my major because I was so inspired by History class.

What are your next steps?

I am off to

Northeastern University in London to study psychology!.

Rosalind O’shea

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Volunteering at domain foyer, art history, culinary arts, making loads of international friends.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Going out to dinner with people I wasn’t friends with and instantly clicking after starting to talk with them.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Coming to Surval alone, and making new friends.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Just putting myself through this alone, and taking every opportunity I was given.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I’ve been really inspired by everyone around me, every girl I’ve met has something they’re working towards or some personality aspect I was inspired by.

What are your next steps?

To go home and remember and cherish the memories I’ve made here as well as use all I’ve learnt in my future pursuits.

Joanne De Pauw

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Learning French and meeting new people and making great friendships with people from around the world.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Ski season, learning how to ski with Surval in the Swiss Alps. Surval has given me the best opportunity to unlock a sport I never knew I would be doing.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Learning French from scratch. It’s a very rich and beautiful language thus it was hard at first and probably the biggest challenge I have encountered this year.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

Learning how to speak French and being given the opportunity to practise my French in Switzerland outside of school as a class.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I have been inspired by my peers, they aim to achieve a lot in our time here at Surval. I have also been inspired by the stunning views which relax me while I do my schoolworks.

What are your next steps?

Continue learning French and soon take on the DELF B2. I’m entering the IB program in an international school in Belgium.

Victoria Figueroa

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Skiing, domain foyer, trips.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Domain foyer.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why? Starting running because it was something I have always wanted to do but never did until Surval.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year? Running 7k.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

By all my classmates and teachers seeing them trying to make a difference each da.

What are your next steps? College in Madrid.

Beatriz Guajardo Sada

Grade: FLC

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

Since most of my classes are French, I particularly enjoyed watching Disney movies in French with Madame Gonzalez, especially Cendrillion.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

Definitely seeing the swans down by the lake hatching and raising their baby cygnets- something that encouraged me to go to town and check on them nearly every day.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

I’ve had the chance to practise my public speaking several times in just one term, and though I felt undoubtedly nervous before every speech, I’m very proud I could challenge my fear of messing up in front of a crowd and went for it on every occasion.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

I feel incredibly proud of the progress I’ve made in French after coming in at a completely beginner level.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

I want to become a director when I grow up, so I’m always looking for inspiration for films to make wherever I go, and I’m happy to say I’ve found plenty simply walking around Montreux.

What are your next steps?

I’ll be continuing to practise my French every day with my mom as well as undertaking Mandarin Chinese on the side. I’ll also be making plenty of trips to visit Switzerland with my family so I can show them around and explore the country.

What have been the highlights of this term/academic year for you?

I have lived in lots of countries but this is the first time I have lived in Switzerland and all of the walks in the mountains and the forests are brilliant.

What has been the one moment from this term/year you will remember forever?

The amazing Surval students painted a mural on the wall outside. I can see it from my favourite spot where I sit on the balcony.

What has been your biggest challenge this term/year and why?

Trying not to eat all of the food people dropped on the floor. Surval food is so delicious it has been very difficult to resist.

What has been your biggest achievement this term/year?

In September we hiked up a mountain and all of the girls were fantastic, even though they struggled sometimes they kept smiling and laughing.

How have you been inspired this term/year?

Lots of the girls here have pets at home and they tell me about how much they miss them. I have been inspired by how kind hearted the girls are and how much they all love their pets.

What are your next steps? I am going to have a relaxing summer holiday and get ready to meet the next year of Survaliennes.
