Welcome to Surval Summer Camp

For over 30 years we have been delivering action-packed summer fun and adventure to girls from all over the world.

We are proud of the valuable experiences and precious memories girls gain on their holidays with us.

It can be really exciting for young girls to be away from home for the first time. All our staff are very experienced at helping girls settle in. We encourage girls to keep busy and join in with our inclusive activities and excursions, so that they quickly get to know one another, make friends and feel Surval is their special holiday home away from home!

Surval Summer Campers join us for 2-6 weeks. Our programme ensures that those staying the full 6 weeks will learn something new every week and have the chance to try every activity offered. We want our Summer Campers to progress in their chosen language, enjoy themselves and take part in fun, adventurous and unforgettable experiences.

PERMISSIONS

Parents who have given permission (registration form) allow their daughter, when in groups of 4 campers or more, to visit, shop or explore without adult supervision when in Montreux at the end of their day or during trips to other locations. When travelling by bus, students are accompanied by a member of staff, but girls “with” permissions are given some freedom to explore with their friends, an essential aspect of Summer Camp.

MEALS

Parents should inform the school in advance of any special dietary requirements. Everyone must attend breakfast, lunch and dinner: it’s a fun and sociable part of the day and ensures that staff can check girls are happy and enjoying the camp.

BEDROOMS

A huge part of the camp experience is making new friends and sharing the experience. Naturally, sharing a room contributes to this, girls will usually share a room with between 1 and 4 fellow campers All rooms have en-suite shower rooms, a shared safe for valuables, fridge with wonderful views of the lake or the mountains Rooms for older students will have access to a balcony Girls should follow the instructions of the House Staff when it comes to staying safe

CLEANING OF ROOMS

Rooms are cleaned daily by House Staff, providing a homely stay and yet another opportunity to practise their French ‘thank you ’ s’! Bed linen is changed every Wednesday by our House Team

LAUNDRY

Our laundry service is available every week House Staff will advise how this is collected during the induction process, however, parents should note that it takes a couple of days to return cleaned clothes, therefore, girls should make sure they have enough spare clothes with them, especially for the adventurous activities.

DEVICES

At Surval, phones are allowed, but not in class or in the dining room It is important to turn off electronic devices at lights out in order to allow everyone to get a good night's sleep. In some cases, we may collect students' devices to assist them in getting a better night's sleep Students are requested to respect their roommates’ space and belongings at all times. Younger students will not have their phones in their rooms at night to help them get the most out of their experience. Don’t worry though, we have plenty of spare alarm clocks to make sure girls are up in time

SHARED AREAS

Students are welcome to use the Common Room and Dance Studio in their free time to relax, exercise or spend time with new friends.

INTERNET

Students will have access to our Wi-Fi from 07 00 – 23 00 every day There is no internet access overnight, helping to support that much needed sleep! We appreciate that some students may be a long way from home and need to contact home at strange hours, however, we encourage students to speak with residential/camp staff about this to ensure that they balance sleep with contact and also respect their roommates! The best time for parents to contact their daughter is in the evening, before 21:30.

POCKET MONEY

We advise weekly pocket money of CHF 50 - to 100 - Pocket money will be taken out of the deposit

BEHAVIOUR

Smoking and drinking alcohol are not allowed and will result in serious sanctions; this could include being sent home.

CALLING HOME

It is likely that during the first few days of camp, your daughter may feel homesick, so rest assured that we’ll encourage them to call you and that we’ll take care to ensure they are integrating well When contacting your daughter, we recommend that you don’t dwell on home problems, favourite pets, or how much everybody misses them Try to be cheerful and upbeat

MEDICAL CARE

We need to know your daughter’s medical information before she arrives If your daughter has any specific medical needs, please note it on the medical section of the application form. If your daughter needs regular medication while at Camp, please give our nurse the relevant medicines in their original prescription container, along with the pharmacy instructions, labelled with your daughter’s name and date of birth.
