J-LO & AFFLECK SPLIT RUMOURS RESURFACE
It has long been known that singer Jennifer Lopez and her actor beau Ben Affleck have been having some marital woes of late.
The couple who dated back in 2002, got engaged in 2003 and then broke up in 2004 – only to get back together in 2021 and remarry in 2022 – have come under intense press scrutiny this year.
First of all, the couple have been living apart for a number of months, have rarely been seen together, J-Lo has been on tour (not supported by Ben) and they recently put their $60m Beverly Hills mansion on the market, with Ben choosing to stay at a flat in Brentwood, instead of the marital home.
Another sign that things are not good in “Camp Bennifer” is the fact that on May 17th Ben was pictured out without his wedding ring on and a week later J-Lo was on social media liking posts on “unhealthy relationships”.
Entertainment Weekly has reported that the couple “are staying in separate homes and tension is high,” while In Touch Magazine ran a report from an insider, saying: “The writing’s on the wall. It’s over. They’re headed for a divorce and (for once) Ben’s not to blame.” Watch this space as Ben & J-Lo - the “will they, won’t they saga” - is set to continue.
It’s our second decade of this so we’re used to it!
MADONNA PROUD TO CELEBRATE PRIDE
Pop star Madonna, looked amazing draped in a huge rainbow flag on Tuesday June 25th, as she geared up to celebrate Pride Weekend in New York City. Madge, as she is affectionately known, has long been a gay icon and a supporter of LGBT Pride and the LGBT Movement, appreciating the spectrum of sexuality diversity that the rainbow flag is symbolically known to represent across the world. This latest shout out on her social media - wearing the rainbow flag and not a lot else (!)further cements her as an icon to the LGBT community.
The 65-year-old, captioned the image with: ‘NYC Pride Weekend Coming Up. Are you Ready!’ to her 19.8 million Instagram followers. Judging by the million likes and comments – people certainly were!
STARS UNITE FOR CHARITY FOOTBALL MATCH
Celebrities from ‘The Wanted’, ‘EastEnders’, ‘The Apprentice’, ‘Love Island’, ‘Gogglebox’ and ‘Made in Chelsea’ gathered to play the ‘Tom Parker Celebrity Charity Football Match' on Sunday 16th June at Dorking Wanderers Football Club.
Tom Parker from band 'The Wanted' sadly died of a brain tumour two years ago, aged 33, leaving two small children and his devoted wife Kelsey Parker behind. His treatment and diagnosis were the subject of a documentary, tribute concert and the inaugural Celebrity Charity Football Match last year held at Bromley F.C. All the funds raised from the matches went to 'Ahead of The Game' brain tumour foundation – a charity which helps support families whose loved ones have been diagnosed with tumours.
The Dorking Wanderers Football Club doors opened at midday on June 16th - which was also Father’s Day - with the match kicking off at 1.30pm. It was exciting from the offset, with Team Grove on fine form, eventually beating Team Parker 12-2.
Among the gung-ho players, were ‘The Wanted’ band member Jay Porter, Tik Tok sensation Zayn Farooqi, ‘Love Island’ star Theo Campbell, ‘EastEnders’ actor Juhaim Choudhury, Singer Formz, ex-pro footballer Jamie O’Hara and ‘The Apprentice’ star Tre Lowe, who we got to catch up with pitch side. (See Tik Tok @rocks_mag for the exclusive interview with the contestant who said being on the BBC One show was like being in the army and that Lord Sugar is like his dad!)
It was a great family day out at the Meadowbank stadium. In addition to the exhilarating match, the event included live entertainment, cheerleaders from Resolution Dance, food and drink stalls, face painting, hair braiding and an adorable tribute song performed by Tom Parker’s 4-year-old daughter Aurelia in the half time show.
Kelsey Parker expressed her gratitude: “To be able to continue Tom’s legacy and raise all-important funds for ‘Ahead of The Game’ is something my children and I hope to do every year. Dorking Wanderers have been incredibly supportive.”
James Ryan, CEO of Grove Gallery - the match day sponsor, added: “It was an incredibly proud day for all those involved, and it's an honour to be the official sponsor at Dorking Wanderers in 2024.” If you want to donate to the charity please visit www.aheadofthegamefoundation.com.
CELEB SPOTTING IN SURREY
So this month has been a busy one in Surrey Celebville. On a recent visit to Hampton Court, Duncan James from Blue was spotted at the latest beauty hotspot J’adore La Beaute & Esthetique getting a facial ahead of his European tour. Plus, ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant Shilpa Shetty and her sister were dining at the newlyopened Gourmet Burger Club in Cobham and the stunning 80’s pop icon Sinitta, DJ Mike Reid and ‘EastEnders’ actor John Altman (aka Nasty Nick) were at St George’s Hill Tennis Club for the grand reveal of the new Weybridge Theatre from Swift Entertainment.
HOLLY WILLOUGHBY KIDNAP PLOT
TV Presenter Holly Willoughby has been front page of all the papers as the trial to convict an Essex-based security guard - who was planning to kidnap and rape her - reveals more shocking evidence.
Gavin Plumb, aged 37, is currently on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court where he is faced with charges of plotting to kidnap and rape the 43-year-old TV star. The trial went into details about how Plumb had unknowingly told an undercover police officer about the plot revealing he had planned to get a gun, buy chloroform then put her in a van after a “home invasion” before taking her to “a new home and way of living”. Police officers also found images of Holly on his phone, a map to Holly’s house, AI augmented videos of her and Microsoft Word documents about him being in a relationship with Holly. It is alleged that he had been planning the kidnap for almost 2 years –just before his arrest in October 2023.
It has also been revealed that in 2008, Plumb was convicted for threatening two 16-year-old girls with a knife at a Woolworths store where he worked, tying one of the victims up in the stockroom. The undercover officer in the Willoughby case has testified to the court saying he firmly believes that Plumb was serious in his plans to kidnap and assault Holly.
Poor Holly Willoughby has had a rough 12 months. First a much-publicised fallout with ITV ‘This Morning’ co-presenter Philip Schofield, his subsequent exit after his extra-marital affair with a male colleague was made public and then sadly Holly also having to leave the hit ITV show because of the furore. This scary kidnap plot is the icing on the cake - at least it was thwarted in time.

NEWS FOR HIM WHAT'S TRENDING... #HOTFASHION
Fashion trends come and go, but some stick around. To be a welldressed man this Summer, you need to learn to separate the good from the bad and the ugly - a challenge that’s often easier said than done. Turning to the experts is the key to unlocking styles that are on trend yet still have staying power. Of course, style is in the eye of the beholder, so feel free to borrow the trends you enjoy and skip the rest. Here are 5 looks to consider as you prepare your Summer 2024 wardrobe.
OVERSIZED TAILORING
Plenty of guys have embraced form-fitting clothing over the past few years and refuse to go back. If you’re one of them, this trend probably isn’t for you, and that’s okay. Good style is all about wearing clothes that make you feel confident. If you’re looking for a change from the sleeker styles, consider clothes with oversized tailoring. That doesn’t just mean wearing clothes that are too big for you! Choose pieces that are purposely designed to have exaggerated features, such as wider pant legs or longer shirt sleeves. There’s a difference between oversized and baggy, so be mindful to wear clothes that fit properly, but simply have unique, larger cuts.
CLASSIC AMERICANA
Men’s Western wear can be quite dapper and surprisingly versatile if you do it right. While you may not be ready to embrace a 10-gallon hat and spurs (yet), a high-quality cowboy hat, denim, flannel, and some cowboy boots to tie the outfit together can look super sharp.
Quality is especially crucial with this style. Authentic Western apparel is timeless, but the looks you get from fast fashion brands often resemble a costume more than an outfit. Stick with trusted, historical brands. Your goal is to capture a sense of genuine Americana - a classic aesthetic that still works long after the trend has faded.
STEALTH WEALTH
Instead of blowing your budget on a closet full of just-okay clothes, consider sticking with a few luxurious investment pieces. Stealth wealth, also known as quiet luxury, is a trend that refers to wearing high-end apparel without the over-the-top flash. Elegant, understated pieces exude class without being overbearing. Minimalist styles can be mixed and matched in a capsule wardrobe to create a variety of looks without the need for a packed dresser. We recommend investing in a timeless suit or leather jacket that will see you through from season to season.
MANUFACTURERS MATTER
As more and more people become increasingly mindful of their impact on the planet and society, it’s no surprise that a stronger focus on sustainable and ethical fashion is trending. Additionally, buying quality products reduces the amount of clothing that ends up in a landfill. Beyond making a positive difference, quality clothes and accessories simply look better. That’s the biggest takeaway here - skip the fast fashion, and invest in a wardrobe that’ll keep you looking and feeling your best long after 2024 has come and gone.
SILVER JEWELLERY
Sterling silver accessories have made a big splash for the past 12 months, and that’s not likely to change anytime soon. A subtle chain can add a subtle touch of shine to the look without going overboard, while bolder statement chains, rings, bracelets, and earrings bring bigger panache to the ensemble. While gold jewellery will always be a classic choice, the stealth wealth trend leans more toward the silver side of the metal spectrum.
CLASSY COMFORT
Many guys are embracing the softer side of fashion. Looser clothing made with plush materials provides an air of laid-back coolness while keeping you feeling relaxed all day long. Much like Western wear, quality is a must. Wearing your old just-rolled-out-of-bed sweatpants doesn’t count! Select highend pieces that are made to be cosy without compromising style. Flowing and draping clothing can add visual excitement, but be tasteful about it.
NEWS FOR HER WHAT'S TRENDING... #HOTFASHION
Fashion trends come and go, but some stick around. To be a well-dressed woman this Summer, you need to learn to separate the good from the bad and the ugly - a challenge that’s often easier said than done. Turning to the experts is the key to unlocking styles that are on trend yet still have staying power. Of course, style is in the eye of the beholder, so feel free to borrow the trends you enjoy and skip the rest. Here are 5 looks to consider as you prepare your Summer 2024 wardrobe.
SHEER DELIGHT
Those with a penchant for sheer styling will not be disappointed this Summer. Elegant sheer remains a key focus for Summer as we continue to rebel against tracksuits and sloppy dressing of the former lockdown days. These elegant sheer pieces add a hint of subtle femininity to the looks seen on catwalks such as Prada and Miu Miu.
THINK PINK
It’s time to embrace your feminine energy with pride ladies, as the 2024 fashion runways were bursting with pink and feminine detailing such as bows, rosettes, ribbons and ruffles. Simone Rocha bravely coupled delicate sheer fabrics with girly details, whilst Sixdo’s inspiration is reminiscent of last summer’s Barbie explosion with an allout pink explosion.
RETRO DRESSING
A mix of retro college styling and all out colour unite to create a winning combination. Seen on the runways of Loewe and Bally, this trend is all about layering with intention. Think preppy shirts, chic cardigans, underwear slips as outerwear and boxy blazers remixed with the addition of feminine frilly mini-skirts or a pair of micro shorts if you are brave enough.
SUSTAINABLE FASHION
Not just a trend but the future of the fashion industry, sustainable fashion is set to continue. Eco-conscious designers are reminding us that it’s better to ‘pay more and buy less’ for the sake of our planet. New designers to watch include Tolu Coker, Priya Ahluwalia and Torisheju Dumi.
WHITE LUXE
Luxury pieces which look and feel expensive are the order of the day. Think perfect tailoring in high-quality fabrics. As the perfect compliment to this trend, white has been tipped to be a must-wear colour for Summer 2024. If you are not brave enough to go all out white, camel and grey are hotly tipped too.

MOVIE REVIEW ALBUM REVIEW BOOK REVIEW
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
The Marvel superhero franchise is back, the third in the ‘Deadpool’ series with Ryan Reynolds and now Hugh Jackman reprising their roles as Wade aka Deadpool and Wolverine respectively.
The duo are starring together in this film as two superheroes taking on the villainous Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin.
The trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ broke the record for the most watched movie trailer ever with 365 million views in just 24 hours back in April, so expect this film to break box office records. Movie pundits are predicting around $800,000m! The last Deadpool outing made $786,000m.
However, there is a lot of talk about the rating of the movie. It has got the highest rating with an R or 18 from the Motion Picture Association with the classification stating that the film has received this for “strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references.”
It is the third ‘Deadpool’ outing, the previous 2 received an R rating but this is the first ‘Wolverine’ to receive the highest warning rating, much to the annoyance of the fans of ‘X Men’ and Wolverine’, who can’t watch this movie for a few years legally! All the other films were PG13.
Director Shawn Levy, said of the new film: “I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world.”
Out on July 26th in all UK cinemas nationwide.
KASABIAN – HAPPENINGS
Leicester-based band Kasabian are releasing their 8th studio album ‘Happenings’ on July 5th via Columbia Records, marking exactly 20 years since they released their first ever album entitled ‘Kasabian’ back in 2004.
Discussing the first single ‘Call’Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno said, “This was the launchpad. Quieter on the verses, loud for the chorus – it’s dance music! The first bit is where you get ready, the second bit is where we all go crazy. It’s really fun and just feels like now. When I finished the track, I felt I wanted to go to a gig by whoever was behind it. Everything for this album was informed by that way of working.”
Discussing the new album ‘Happenings’, Pizzorno added, “Thinking about where we are with phone screens, us being able to create something that people can be a part of in the real world has got to be a positive. I’ve seen it in people’s faces at the shows, that need to experience something that just snaps you out for yourself, to feel a connection. Well, that’s Happenings. It’s 20 years this year since we released our debut album, but we felt the best way this band, at this time, should celebrate that was by making a new album.”
On July 6th, Kasabian will play a huge hometown show in Leicester, where they will be supported by fellow artists, Kaiser Chiefs, who the band are firm friends with. Kasabian’s last album, ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’, was released in 2022. It was the band’s first album without former frontman Tom Meighan who was sacked from Kasabian shortly before being convicted of assaulting his partner in July 2020, after spending 16 years with the hit-making band.
ROOMMATES - OLA TUNDUN
A totally uplifting, dramatic, emotional and hugely entertaining women's fiction novel from a fantastic new writer, Ola Tundun, that used to live in Surrey that based this “loosely” on her life and experiences here.
Covering so many bases in its plotline including a hilarious and poignant love triangle, opposites attract and what it’s like to live in such close proximity to a love interest and not be able to get away!
The story centres on heroine Ariella Mason who seemingly has the perfect life. Perfect job? Check. Perfect home? Check. Perfect fiancé? Check. None of this is by accident though as Ariella is a card-carrying perfectionist.
On the other side of the city lives Ariella’s polar opposite. Caleb Black is an unrepentant smart-ass, seat-ofhis-pants, arrogant party-boy getting through life on charisma and raw sex appeal (his words).
So why, one night, does Ariella turn up with her bags, asking to rent Caleb’s spare room?
Ariella has done a complete 180 on her life. And nothing good could ever come of this… Or could it? A hilarious, sexy and slow-burning romantic pageturner, perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Tia Williams and Lucy Score.
One of the best of the many 5 Star reviews on Amazon stated, “Are you kidding me right now? Just yank the heart right out of my chest. You made me fall in love with this book, painfully rooting for these two… An absolute joy.”
We laughed and cried our way through this great book and struggled to put it down. We can’t wait to get stuck into Ola’s second novel ‘Complicated’.
More than a cafe...
DECADENT DESIGNS
Surrey-based Jonathan Rowlandson Design have provided a unique design and build service for a range of top-tier clients including luxury department store Harvey Nichols, designer Vivienne Westwood and Toni & Guy hairdressing cofounder Toni Mascolo, for over 30 years now.
Having launched JRD in 1994, Jonathan brings a wealth of experience from his 3-Dimensional Design training to every project, whether a large statue commission like the “Metal Man” pictured here that stands impressively tall at 14 feet in the palatial home of Toni & Guy magnate Toni Mascolo or smaller one-off projects like art deco door handles, which can be used to instantly jazz up private homes or business premises.
The company, run by Jonathan himself, has risen to the challenge of every project, be it interior or exterior, and no job is too big or small. With an emphasis on innovative, contemporary design solutions combining a unique approach to metal items with wood, glass, stone and other materials. His range is vast and all projects are one-off independent designs.
JRD offer a range of furniture items too, including the much sought after Otolo range. The company also design and produce items sympathetic to their environment, be it a rustic bar restaurant with an artisan feel - normally providing seating, counters, bars, lighting, signage, etc. such as in the famous Dog Star in Brixton – or one-off sculptural items such as the tables for Vivienne Westwood with their unique, ornate designs and famous orbs - which take centre stage in her clothing stores in Clapham and New Bond Street.
Another exciting project for JRD came from department store Harvey Nichols where they requested a new vodka tower to be made to adorn the 5th Floor of the famous rooftop bar and restaurant to mark the introduction of their partnership with premium vodka brand Stolichnaya. Jonathan designed and built the impressive tower from scratch.
DESIGNS BY JRD
A huge project, that truly shows JRD’s scope of design work, was using distressed metals to fit with an exterior landscape when making a new railing for a local nursery school playground. The school wanted something unique that would stand out but also encompass that feel of nature and engage the children. Jonathan came up with the idea of getting the school children to design some bugs and insects that he would then go onto laser cut on metal and attach to the gates and railings.
JRD also do any house or business design improvements. Their recent “Chicane Stairs” project at Carlyle Square in Chelsea, involved working closely with the client, providing a range of initial sketches and prototypes. The chosen design was this striking geometric undulating chicane style staircase railing, using 6 different panels creating movement as you ascend and descend the stairs. There was also an impressive hanging light structure that complimented the railing.
Jonathan (or Jonnie as he is affectionately known to his many clients!) said, “Hardly any two projects are the same, we continue to provide new and hopefully better designs. Inspiration is limitless, as the world around you keeps on giving - nature is a big source of ideas, as it has been throughout the ages for other artists and designers - but how you use it will leave your own mark. Influences for designing can come from anywhere, looking up or down in London, checking the masons’ marks on curb stones, brutalist architecture of the Southbank, or some Wild Style graffiti.”
He loves the work he does outside too as there are gates, pergolas and perimeters that can all be improved with simple updated designs that can transform a home or business.
“With the exteriors of properties being now as considered as the interiors, it is a pleasure designing all structures to make outdoor living more enriching. We are not just a chair or table manufacturer, it is a broad church of design that we do, from a sculptural radiator to a 6-floor spiral staircase, all designs are as carefully considered as the next,” Jonathan added.
Hardly any two of JRD’s projects are the same, as they continue to provide new and better designs as their field and scope of work increases with every new project. As well global brands like Vivienne Westwood, Toni & Guy and Harvey Nichols, JRD have also worked with the esteemed banking giant Citibank, London and Weybridge based hairdresser Gustav Fouche and womenswear retailer Jigsaw.
With all that said you are definitely in safe hands with JRD! For any design consultancy or projects that you would like to discuss get in touch with Jonathan via the contact details below.

SURREY THEME PARKS
Without a doubt one of the best UK’s best theme parks is Thorpe Park, which is luckily right on our doorstep in Chertsey, just off Junction 11 on the M25.
There are now over 30 rollercoasters at Thorpe Park including the brand new 236ft drop at ‘Hyperia’, the infamous ‘Stealth’, a hydraulic launched rollercoaster propelling you from 0-80 miles per hour in less than 2 seconds and ‘Collossus’, the first 10 loop rollercoaster.
You can also experience the world's first horror movie themed rollercoaster with ‘Saw’ where you ride through Jigsaw’s most intricate torture equipment on this terrifying rollercoaster with swinging pendulum blades, floor spikes and giant rotating blades. Even the bravest of thrill seekers will cling on tight as they face a beyond vertical drop of 100 degrees, from a height of 100ft.
There are 2 fabulous water rides, water slides, interactive shows, arcades and a kids section of the theme park for younger guests.
Best advised for children aged 10 and up - as the rides are not for the faint hearted and there is a minimum height restriction set at 140cm for the majority of the rollercoasters. If your child is 139cm or below don’t even try and get them on as the stewards are very strict on measuring. Under 3’s go free at Thorpe Park so if you have little ones you won’t be charged when you take them with your older kids. Chessington World of Adventures, in Chessington, may be your best option for kids aged 6-8 plus who want to take in great rollercoasters or the Zoo for viewing animals yet not be limited by height resrictions. Or for smaller children try nearby Legoland in Windsor where there a host of toddler rides and activities for your little ‘uns this Summer.

TOP GOLF SURREY
No golfing ability? No problem! Topgolf is a game that seasoned golfers or total novices can play. Topgolf only has 4 centres in the UK - and luckily for us there is one based in Addlestone, Surrey.
You can have up to 6 players in a booth and you score points by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at giant dartboard-like targets on an outfield. The closer you get your ball to the centre or the ‘bullseye’ and the further the distance, the more points you earn.
You play using proper golf clubs and it is a great way to take up golf in a fun environment as it all digitally scored so you can just get on and enjoy playing the game. Or have fun laughing at those in your party that can’t!
If you have a few families for a day out - you can get two adjacent bays so 12 of you can play together.
It is worth noting that it is a lot easier to get the balls further on the top tier so always best to request an upstairs booth area if you are with beginners.
The fun and games don’t stop there either; there is arcades and a bar and restaurant on site so you indulge in delicious food and drinks brought to you while you play.
You can also book in and enjoy a game of Footgolf on site at the Addlestone Meadow Farm site.

FEATURES HELP SAVE ELLIS
Ellis, 2, is a brave little boy from Epsom who is sadly one of the 100 children in the UK to be diagnosed with a rare neuroblastoma tumour – a 12cm long tumour in his stomach, stage 4, high risk with only a 44% chance of a cure.
After months of gruelling treatment here in the UK, it has now been confirmed that Ellis needs urgent £250,000 therapy in America to prevent a relapse with a drug that has been approved by the FDA that has proven to help children with similar diagnosis’.
It is years off being approved here in the UK so it is pivotal Ellis gets the treatment he needs in the US now! Amongst their heartbreak, Ellis’ parents have so far manged to raise a whopping £70,000 but it’s simply not enough and time is running out.
ELLIS' MUM'S STORY
Hello my name is Chloe and I am married to Neil and we are blessed to have two beautiful children. Lily who is 5 and Ellis who is 2. Below is our story so far, and by writing down every detail which has lead us to my baby boy’s diagnosis, I hope that it will help others to potentially recognise the symptoms of an awful cancer as early as possible. Ellis is 1 of 100 children in the UK every year to be diagnosed with Neuroblastoma which by its nature, is one of the hardest cancers to treat.
Ellis is the happiest, smiliest, kind, cuddly little boy and he is loved by everyone who meets him. His cheeky smile is infectious. He has the softest skin, the velvetiest hair and the most beautiful blue eyes. He loves his big sister and his big sister loves him.
ELLIS
They have a special kind of bond and the ability to make each other smile. He has the sweetest little voice, and his favourite words are cuddle, Peppa and car.
On Tuesday 18th July 2023 our world collapsed around us as we were told our baby Ellis has a large tumour in his abdomen. I cannot describe the feeling of devastation, terror and shock at that moment in time. A feeling of pure heartbreak and desperation. I could hardly breathe.
Prior to this we had had several hospital admissions with Ellis for seizures that he was suffering, and his last episode was at the end of February 2023.
Ellis seemed to pick up every illness going throughout the last 23 months, however we put this down to a weakened immune system and the fact that he was in childcare twice a week being exposed to other children. He had also suffered from reflux
since birth and because of his issues, he was already under consultant care. This is something I still find incredibly hard to acknowledge. For months, I fear that this diagnosis may have been missed along the way.
On the 7th July we were called by Ellis’s childminder to collect him as he had developed a temperature and had been sick. This was very common for Ellis as he has had many fevers before. Due to his seizure history, I took him to A&E on the 9th July where he had several bloods taken and we were told the results were fine and that he had a viral infection.
Ellis continued to spike temperatures over the next week. I took him back to the doctors twice during that week and both times they could find no cause and again said this was probably viral.
At this point, Ellis had gone off his food (which is highly unusual as he loves his food!) and had begun sleeping very poorly, often waking in the night seemingly in pain. We thought he was teething or perhaps suffering with some separation anxiety, all the things you usually associate with developmental milestones. Ellis seemed more tired than usual, and we put this down to his restless nights. We had also been told that he was slightly anaemic - something very common in toddlers and which can make you lethargic.
Ellis’ lovely childminder was also looking into why he may be under the weather and mentioned to me that he had quite a firm tummy on the left side and we thought constipation would most likely be the cause. Bearing this information in mind, I looked at Ellis’ little pot belly that evening after a bath and noticed from
behind that he had a very slight bulge on his left hand side. This would have barely been noticeable if I hadn’t been specifically looking at his tummy.
I couldn’t sleep that night and had a feeling I needed to take Ellis back to the hospital and that is when our nightmare began on the morning of the 18th July.
“Constipation” said the first doctor, however after speaking with a superior, they advised that Ellis should have an X-ray of his tummy. The X-ray came back and they confirm Ellis is extremely constipated but there is also a shadow and it isn’t clear what it is. It could simply be some more poo showing up, but just to be on the safe side they decided to do an ultrasound. The radiographer was a nice man who said ‘Let’s find out what’s happening with your tummy young man’. At the end of the scan I asked if everything was ok as I was expecting a reassuring comment from the radiographer.
He looked at me with a degree of sympathy and said there is something unusual on the left kidney but please give me time to analyse the images. I knew in this instant it was bad news. I called my husband Neil and asked him to come to the hospital as soon as he could. I took my baby boy back up to the ward where we had now been admitted and sat there shaking waiting for the news to hit us. Two Doctors came into the room shortly after and asked our names. I could see from their expressions that this wasn’t going to be good news. “We are sorry but we believe Ellis has a large tumour on his left kidney”.
At this moment in time, our whole world collapsed, and they believed this could be a Wilms tumour. Any cancer is a devastating diagnosis but in this case Wilms tumours do have a good prognosis and although we were utterly crushed, we could take comfort in that hope.
Unfortunately, things continued to get worse for us. Ellis then had a CT scan, and it was reported that this actually looked like a very large neuroblastoma and not a Wilms tumour as initially first thought. The agony and desperation of waiting for answers, when finally a couple of days later, we managed to see a consultant at the Royal Marsden. Ellis would need a biopsy, a central line fitted to begin chemo and a bone marrow biopsy as neuroblastoma can attack the bones once spread.
Being in the Marsden, I felt a sense of guilt that there is a whole different universe just around the corner. A little girl came walking out as we were walking in, wearing her pretty dress and her little tufts of hair, being the only hair left on her head which had been ravaged by chemotherapy. My heart broke again, for Ellis, for the little girl, for every single person we saw going through this ordeal.
We were then moved across to St George’s where Ellis had to go through the painstaking process of biopsy’s from the tumour, bone marrow and installation of his line for chemo. A 3 hour surgery in total. Signing his consent forms and consenting for blood transfusions should he need it, gave light to the magnitude of the situation. Many tears were had in front of the consultants. “Please just help our baby” I said.
The following day was so difficult to see Ellis in pain, he doesn’t understand why, he doesn’t deserve any of this. His blood levels declined and he then required a blood transfusion. More scans and trauma for us all and on Friday 28th July he finally received a firm diagnosis. This tumour is indeed a neuroblastoma, stage 4, high risk with a 44% chance of cure. The statistics crush me.
To know that there is a higher chance that Ellis won’t recover. It’s unthinkable. The treatment protocol is aggressive and consists of brutal chemo, surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and immunotherapy- a year long programme.
I’ve always been a mummy, but overnight I’ve become a fulltime mummy and medical carer. We are aware that we have a long road ahead and nothing about this journey is going to be easy. During this period, I want to dedicate enough time to research alternative treatments that could become available should Ellis relapse or not respond to his initial treatment and to also look at medicines that will help him along to be more comfortable throughout his journey. There is currently a vaccine programme in New York which has some promising data, although this is only for children once in remission from neuroblastoma, it gives us the hope we need. The cost of this is in excess of £250,000. This go fund me page will contribute towards his care should he reach remission and to relieve the financial burden of now only having one parent working with bills and life continuing to go on all around us. Any surplus donations will be donated back to the neuroblastoma charity to fund further research.
All the while, I’m still a Mummy to a little girl who needs me, and I’m trying to keep family life as normal as we can for as long as we can. I will do anything in my power to keep us as a family of 4 and I just can’t imagine a future without our little man. Please donate anything you can to help us help Ellis and to keep the four of us together.
If you are unable to donate, please simply share our story as far and wide as possible.

Guests can also enjoy delicious cocktails from their fully-stocked bar and one of the most extensive wine and champagne lists Surrey Rocks have ever encountered – 223 to be exact!
Expect only the best at the newly opened The Gosling with 5-star food, drinks, décor and service all the way. We were amazed from start to finish, read on to find out more.
OUR EXPERIENCE
We booked in for a Thursday night in June at 7pm and both the Bar and Restaurant were buzzing on arrival, a good sign! We were shown to our table in the stunning main Dining Room by the general manager Michar, who was charming, attentive and helpful all evening.
We ordered off the impressive cocktail menu first going for Lychee Martini’s which were served beautifully served with kisses
decorated from Red Cayan Pepper & Sugar on the white foam. Nice touch! So smooth, light and fresh – perfect for a Summer evening like ours.
There were two choices of Food Menu; the Lunch/Dinner Set Menu where you can choose 2 or 3 courses (from a choice of 3 dishes) starting from £22 or the A La Carte Menu which was more varied but equally appetising! We decided on A La Carte as the ‘Lamb Rump’ Main looked overwhelmingly tantalising at a nearby guest’s table!
RESTAURANT REVIEW
RESTAURANT REVIEW
For Starter, we decided to go for the ‘Grilled Wild Argentinian Prawns with Chilli, Garlic, Parsley’ it was served beautifully with 5 large, shell-on King Prawns, grilled to perfection. The garlic and herb sauce was to die for! (Plenty of leftover sauce if you wanted to dip with The Gosling’s delicious homemade, sour dough bread.)
Next up we went for the ‘English Asparagus with Poached Egg and Crispy Parma Ham’ served with a hollandaise sauce. The whole dish was an array of colours and cooked perfectly, with the perfect runniness of the yolk, the crispiness of the Parma ham and the al dente crunch of the seared asparagus.
For Mains we went for the ‘PanRoasted Cod with Lobster Dumpling, Baby Spinach, Ginger & Lobster Butter’ a fresh fillet of the finest cod cooked perfectly in the accompanying golden lobster butter sauce and tasty vegetables.
Then there was the dish we had been salivating over since our arrival the ‘Lamb Rump with Asparagus, Courgette Puree, Boulangere Potatoes & Wild Garlic Salsa Verde.’ It was a taste explosion. Three large, tender, thick-cut, medium rare slices of lamb rump – so soft you could have cut it with a spoon! It literally melted in the mouth. The accompanying vegetables were cooked al dente and the Boulangere Potatoes (akin to Dauphinoise) had a lovely herb flavouring. The jus was so rich and full of flavour and was drizzled so artistically across the plate. And again, the colours and presentation of this dish were just sublime; the green courgette puree simply popped. Too good to eat. Maybe? Alas it was a “Maybe Not” in this instance. We finished every
RESTAURANT REVIEW
last morsel on the plate! This was perfectly offset with a glass of the Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon from the “most impressive wine menu to date,” according to our reviewers.
As we moved onto the Dessert Course, we noticed that the Restaurant was completely full with just shy of 90 guests at 9pm. This is great to see on a Thursday night and a sign of how great the food and service is at The Gosling. A mixture of couples, friends and families, of all ages. So inclusive.
Now onto the ‘Lime & Mango Cheesecake with Honeycomb & Mango Sorbet’ review which our taster described as a “zingy, fresh and irresistible.” The crispy honeycomb perfectly offset the smooth cheesecake filling and the fruit sorbet made it a lighter alternative to cream or ice-cream.
The second Dessert option, the ‘Dark Chocolate Mousse
with Salted Caramel, Pistachio & Black Cherry’ was divine. A perfect rich chocolate mousse sphere decorated beautifully with alternated salted caramel pistachios and dried black cherries on the outer layer and sprinkled with nuts on top. A rich and decadent dessert for chocolate lovers out there, and not too big. As our waistlines and PT’s will thank us for tomorrow morning!
We were so impressed with our experience at The Gosling, we thought we would tell you a bit about the background and sheer excellence of the team behind the newest, hottest restaurant in Surrey.

The Gosling’s executive chef Mark Wadsworth’s impressive résumé includes Michael Wignall at The Latymer in Bagshott (Pennyhill Park), The Ginger Pig in Hove and Head Chef at The Salt Room, the critically-acclaimed modern, British seafood restaurant in Brighton.
The kitchen team is in the expert hands of Head Chef Adam Reclik who most recently worked as Head Chef at One One Four in Teddington and was the Sous Chef at London’s famed 5-star Hotel Café Royal.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
AWARD-WINNING TEAM
The award-winning team behind The Gosling is Nick Levantis and Darryl Healy who bring a wealth of knowledge and a combined 30 year’s experience at the helm of some of the finest restaurants and hotels in the UK.
Since 2011, Nick and Darryl have run The Swan in West Malling, Kent, which brings a touch of luxury to the thriving market town. They also led the team behind Village London, which in turn launched the successful concepts Village East and The Garrison. Also, in 2011, they opened the Riding House Café in London's Fitzrovia to much acclaim and in 2016 launched Amano in West Malling, a restaurant and boutique hotel that specialises in authentic Italian food.
Their outset with The Gosling, was always to join another community, like their previous ventures and offer high quality dining coupled with a professional and welcoming service.
“This they have achieved in spades, a mere 8 months since opening!” our testers claim with unwavering confidence.
INCREDIBLE INTERIORS
Designed by the brilliant Studio Vitor, the space is inviting and flows wonderfully from the Bar through the beautiful Open Kitchen and into The Dining Room. The Restaurant is divided from the bar by a glass screen which adds to the atmosphere without intrusion.
The Restaurant and Bar are bright in the morning when you visit for brunch or lunch and cosy in the evening with wonderfully designed lighting. The bespoke furnishing with carefully put together luxury fabrics and artworks, create a warm, inviting and stylish experience.
In total, The Gosling can seat 183 guests at any one time. It doesn’t feel like that big of a space when you are there as you
are so well looked after and the Restaurant, Bar and Garden are so stunning – it almost feels like 3 independent spaces.
The Restaurant’s Dining Room can accommodate 80 guests, while the Bar has a sofa seating area and stools that can seat 25 and there is also a Private Dining Room that can seat up to 18 guests for any special occasions. The beautiful Garden, opening this Summer, has room for an additional 60 guests.
IN SUMMARY
The Gosling only opened its doors to the public in December last year. Located in the beautiful Horsel Common area, just outside of Woking, the site (formerly Sands at Bleak House) has really made its mark on the area and customers are raving about their experiences, as are we! A must try dining experience – we can wholeheartedly recommend.
Located just outside of Woking, sitting on the edge of scenic Horsell Common, is The Gosling. Having undergone an extensive refurbishment to become a “fully fledged” restaurant and bar with a beautiful private dining room too, The Gosling offers all day dining, serving modern European cuisine, and a stylish bar where guests can enjoy freshly made cocktails and drinks.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
DON LUIS
This traditional Tapas & Steak restaurant in the heart of Esher surpassed all our expectations on our recent Friday afternoon visit. We were seated near the back of the buzzy and beautifully decorated restaurant, which had lovely booth-style seating, marble tables and Spanish artwork adorning the walls.
Our server was the charming Kerry who made us instantly welcome. There was an impressive menu comprising 35 dishes and a chalkboard Specials Menu (which changes weekly) with an extra 5 amazing dishes. Spoilt for choice was an understatement!
THE TASTIEST TAPAS
With 40 dishes to choose from, it was hard to choose just a few for our Tapas Lunch Review as they all looked and sounded so tantalising. We decided to go for three from the Specials Menu, including the ‘Fried Arzua Cheese’ which was served beautifully on a bed of cranberry sauce and the ‘Courgette Flower’ which was drizzled in honey and filled with the tastiest courgette and goats cheese filling.
And finally from the Specials Menu, on the recommendation of Kerry, we went for the ‘Slow Cooked Oxtail in Red Wine with Celeriac Puree’ which was a taste sensation; the tenderest meat which fell apart on the touch also served with fresh baby carrots and crispy onions. A standout dish.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
Next up on the main Tapas Menu was ‘Croquetas de Jamon Iberico’ and the crispy coating with ali-oli topping was perfect. The cheese and Iberico ham filling oozed out of the crispy crumb – a superb dish.
We also opted for the ‘Chorizo & Sweet Potato Mash’ which was triumphant. The spicy, Spanish sausage was cooked perfect and the fresh, sweet potato mash was plentiful and accompanied the dish perfectly.
Last but by no means least was the ‘Patatas Bravas’ a mainstay on most tapas menus and this Don Luis version of this dish was excellent with crispy chunky slices of potato with a delicious homemade tomato, garlic and mayoalioli sauce drizzled on top. One of our tasters lived in
RESTAURANT REVIEW
Spain for 6 years and said this was easily the best Patatas Bravas they had tested. Enough said!
We washed this excellent Tapas meal down with two cocktails; a Virgin Mojito and a Porn Star Martini – both were divine and presented perfectly.
The broad selection of Don Luis Menu also includes Paella including the ‘Seafood Paella’ and the ‘Paella Mixta’ which combines chicken and seafood. Plus, there is an abundance of Steak options if you want to mix it up.
DELICIOUS DESSERTS
Choose from delights such as ‘Crema Catalana’ Spanish crème brulee, ‘Fondant De Chocolat’ chocolate fondant served with homemade vanilla ice-cream or ‘Churros Con Chocolate’, perfectly crisped doughnut-esque churros melted with a chocolate centre.
We opted to share the traditional Spanish almond cake served with vanilla ice-cream otherwise known as ‘Tarta De Santiago’ and it was delicious. Light, fluffy sponge with a generous topping of almonds, homemade vanilla icecream with a side of fruit coulis. A must try.
IN SUMMARY
Don Luis Tapas serves only authentic Spanish food lovingly prepared and cooked by their head chef, Madrid-born Raul Domingo, who is completely passionate about food, having grown up in his family restaurant in Madrid and having run his own restaurant in London.
Don Luis Tapas was a complete taste sensation with a great atmosphere, superb service and an insightful tutorial into traditional Spanish dining. We cannot recommend highly enough.
Don Luis was a complete taste sensation and an insightful tutorial into traditional Spanish dining. We have already booked to go back!
HILTON COBHAM
SEVEN HILLS RESTAURANT, BAR & TERRACE
Discover fabulous food, delicious drinks, bold interior design and charismatic charm nestled among the rolling hills at the newly renovated Seven Hills Restaurant, Bar & Terrace.
Located within the stunning grounds of the renowned Hilton Cobham hotel, guests can enjoy their fantastic all-day dining menu, signature cocktails, locally-brewed beers and delicious bar bitesall while enjoying relaxing, unmatched woodland views.
Chef's Specials are exclusively prepared with locally-sourced ingredients, including fresh herbs from their garden. Plus, with a dedicated children's menu, you can bring the whole family and everyone is catered for.
OUR EXPERIENCE
We arrived for lunch on a lovely, hot Summer’s day in June and even the drive through the enchanting woodland that surrounds Hilton Cobham was pure pleasure.
It really is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy neighbouring towns of Cobham, Esher and Weybridge. Located just off the A3, (but with no sounds from the traffic) Hilton Cobham
has its own private no-through road and huge, statuesque trees. My intrepid co-diner Matt described it as akin to the forests he visited in Jellystone Park in the United States where trees grow to over 250 feet.
On arrival to the Hilton Cobham main reception we were greeted warmly by the friendly Hilton staff. The hotel is grand, bright, airy and oozes luxury and sophistication.
A short walk through the ground floor and you come to the Seven Hills Restaurant, Bar & Terrace, which has 3 impressive different dining areas: the lounge, the dining room and the outdoor terrace.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
As the weather was on our side, we opted to eat outside on the terrace, with fantastic views over the Hilton grounds. There is something so calm and soothing about being surrounded by nature and there is plenty of it here. The flowers that line the whole terrace were beautiful too, lots of lavender, peonies and colour.
Our charming waitress for the day was Food & Beverage Assistant Thea, who was perfect (and although she apologised for being new!) she knew her stuff and made us feel instantly welcome. We were also introduced to Bar Manager and ‘Master Mixologist’ Ryan who really does make the best cocktails!
On both Matt (who had visited recently) and Ryan’s recommendation we went for two Porn Star Martinis, which were the best we have ever tasted. The passion fruit juice in the cocktails was fresh…… no cartons here! And the half passion fruit was quarterised so you could taste the fresh fruit when drinking. Plus, the accompanying Prosecco shot was delicious, which does make the cocktail after all, and the Hilton Cobham only use the finest Grey Goose Vodka in their Martinis. Thanks Ryan!
Now onto the fabulous food. The all-day menu that we ordered from had 25 tantalising options to choose from. You can choose from their ‘Light Bites’ such as ‘Tempura Squid’, ‘Spiced Lamb Kofta’ or ‘Pork & Apple Sausage Roll’ (yum!) or cold sandwich options like the ‘Classic BLT’, ‘Honey Roasted Ham and Chilli Chutney’ or the ‘Mezze Flatbread’ sharing platter which comes with hummus, roasted vegetables, plant-based feta and root vegetable crisps. Or go for hot sandwiches like the ‘Meatball Bun’ with meatballs, tomato chutney, pesto plant mayo, fresh basil (from their herb garden!) rocket and fries or the nostalgic ‘Posh Fish Finger Sandwich’ with crispy sole fillets, pickles, tartare sauce, pea shoots on a sourdough bun with fries.
Matt decided to go for the ‘Chicken Club Sandwich’ which you can have on either wholewheat or white toasted bloomer with chicken, bacon, mayo, salad and fries.
It was so fresh and delicious; with plenty of chicken breast and crispy bacon it was also seriously big with its multiple layers. Not too big to eat though, as Matt devoured it by pressing down on the sizeable sandwich so it could fit in his mouth! The fries were delicious too, cooked with skin-on they were really crispy and came with lots of dipping options (cue cute mini Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Hellman’s Mayonnaise jars – which we all know the kids love!)
I went for the ‘Smash Cheeseburger’ which consisted of a beef patty, smoked cheddar, BBQ relish, ranch dressing, gem lettuce, tomato, pickles, potato bun and fries. You can choose to have with bacon, which I did. It was amazing and beautifully presented. The beef patty was so tender and cooked to perfection. The flavours of the ranch dressing alongside the BBQ relish were immense - a perfect accompaniment to the tastiest burger. This dish is highly recommended!
After we had finished the meal, Melroy the Manager popped by to say hello and check we had enjoyed our experience. A wholehearted yes was the answer from both myself and Matt! We browsed the dessert menu with Sweet Treats including the ‘Pastel De Nata’ which is a mini Portuguese custard tart or the ‘Mochi Ice-Cream’ – choose from salted caramel, coconut or raspberry flavoured ice-cream inside a chewy rice flour dough
casing or the ‘Rich Chocolate Brownie’ offset with sea salt. Honestly after the hugest and most delicious mains (with a side of the crispy ‘Tempura Squid’ with chilli mayo dip – another winning dish!) we were so full, we passed on the dessert option but we will definitely be back soon to try out.
IN SUMMARY
One of the tastiest meals we have had in ages. The Seven Hills Restaurant, Bar & Terrace is a must try. Beautiful location, amazing food, great cocktails and superb service. You will love it. To avoid disappointment, make sure to book ahead, as it gets very busy especially on weekends.

LET’S TALK
Well my Surrey Darlings we are more than half way through 2024. How has it been so far for you? This month all you will hear is buzz about the election but I don't want to talk politics, I want to talk about love.
Have you found love in 2024?
Have you lost a great love in 2024?
Have you fallen in love with yourself this year?
I hope you have fallen out of love with anyone toxic.
If you are an avid Surrey Rocks reader you will have seen my previous columns including a step- by-step guide on how to find love (or bring the spark back into your relationship) and practical advice on how to be the best person you can be, ready to receive a healthy relationship. I am happy I receive so many messages from people who have said my advice has helped them but one message that really stood out so I want to share; Katie wrote:
"I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for all your inspiration. Your advice has motivated me in a profound way. Specifically when you mention about writing down goals. I’ve heard the word 'journaling' loads but never understood it literally meant writing down your goals.
You have filled me with a renewed sense of hope and determination that I am lovable and deserve love too. Thank you for being such a motivating force. You have impacted me in a way that will stay with me going forward."
I think Katie is a great example of someone who can change the whole direction of their life with a simple lightbulb moment from reading something that inspires them. Sometimes all it takes is one book, magazine, insta quote to give you that push but ultimately Katie is doing the work, she is writing her goals, she is changing her mindset and she is
TALK ABOUT LOVE
totally in control of changing her life for the better. I believe you can speak your dream life into existence and it excites me Katie knows that is now possible too.
So if you are feeling a little down, a little lost or a little jaded right now, take this as a sign to keep going. All life has cycles. I believe humans have seasons just like in nature. So perhaps this is your winter. You have lost your 'leaves' and are feeling tired, depleted and life keeps throwing storms your way. It may feel like the storms may never end but, just like in nature, Spring ALWAYS comes. Keep going, hunker down, the sun will shine for you again, Spring is on its way.
Hopefully though, you will be in your Summer. Where life feels good, easy, bright and you are full of hope. But if not I believe you can hijack your way to your own personal Summer by these simple steps:
• Walk for at least 30 minutes a day.
• Make sure you drink hot water and fresh lemon and ginger before anything else when you wake up.
• Write down your goals.
• Write down your dreams.
• Write down the things you are grateful for.
• Write down what your perfect relationship would look like.
• Write down what your perfect partner looks like. Be specific. Be honest. Be Brave.
If you do this for 3 months at least once a day/week you will be creating a totally different life for yourself and by Christmas you will be well into your Spring/Summer era of life. Life May feel difficult at the moment but ultimately you are in control of your future. Try and detach from the overthinking.
If you are feeling depressed you are likely thinking too much about the past. If you are feeling anxious it's most likely you are thinking about the future. Come back to the now and you can instantly shift your core feelings and being. Depression I also think is your body telling you that you need deep rest. So, make sure you are doing everything possible to get some decent sleep.
The question I often ask myself is would I date me. My answer is an unequivocal yes but if yours is a no it's time to stop dating and start healing. You can never start a healthy relationship when you have trauma or unhealed wounds. You deserve to be in your Summer era but that takes work. Take responsibility for your actions, your life and your future. Rest. Heal. Fall in love.
Relationships are great but remember the longest and best relationship you will ever have is with yourself. Go create your Summer era. You've got this darlings!

LOUISE SCOTLAND STYLES
TOP SUMMER
Hello my lovelies,
I am so excited to be writing my first-ever column for Surrey Rocks. A little bit about me - I'm Louise, I live in Surrey with my extremely overactive 9-year-old son, Roman. I have been working in the fashion and beauty industry for the past 10 years, so I find myself buried alive at home in clothes, skincare, and make-up…every woman’s dream. More recently, with the high street being so good, I have found myself drawn to discovering luxe looks for less. I will be sharing outfit ideas to suit all budgets as well as my own styling tips. Top tip: Remember, fashion is subjective to the individual, so if you like it and it makes you feel good, wear it with confidence without worrying what others think of the trend.
5 WARDROBE STAPLES OF 2024 THE RAFFIA BAG
My obsession with these bags is real. They really elevate your basics and are definitely the bag of the season. The tote versions are perfect for everyday use, work, and especially your Summer holiday because they are big enough for your stuff and the kiddies too. The clutches are great to pop inside your tote bag during the day to keep your valuables and smaller items in one place, and they really come into their own for Summer evenings out. They literally go with everything and are usually more roomy than your average clutch bag.
HI MY NAME IS LOUISE AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN THE FASHION AND BEAUTY INDUSTRY FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS; INCLUDING HAIR, MAKE-UP AND STYLING FOR TELEVISION, EDITORIAL, FASHION WEEKS, CELEBRITIES, AND MANY A FASHION SHOOT OVER THE YEARS. I AM ALSO A CONTENT CREATOR, PUTTING TOGETHER MANY DIFFERENT OUTFITS WEEKLY, WHICH I LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING WITH YOU ALL. I NOW MOSTLY FIND MYSELF BURIED ALIVE AT HOME IN CLOTHES, SKINCARE AND MAKE-UP… EVERY WOMAN’S DREAM.
2024 SEASON LOOKS
WIDE-LEG TROUSERS
Gone are the days of squeezing ourselves into skin-tight trousers and skinny jeans…thank the lord. Wide-leg trousers are really having a moment this year. They’re so comfortable and flattering, you can dress them up or style them casually, and they can also be part of your workwear outfits. Linen versions are great for those warmer Summer days as they’re light and airy; style with your basic tops, a pair of comfortable sandals, basket bag, and sunnies, and you’re good to go. Plissé hides a multitude of sins and doesn’t crease, so it's great to throw on with some kitten heels, a cute top, statement earrings and a clutch for those summer nights.
COMFORTABLE FLATS
Slides and gladiator-style sandals have really become popular the last few years. They’re not just great for holidays; they are now equally as good for everyday Summer styles and can also take you into your evenings. Comfort is key; Birkenstock and Ego especially have you covered, with Ego offering you their version of the Hermès Chypre and Oran sandal.
STRIPED SHIRT
One of the best additions to your Summer wardrobe has to be a striped shirt. The most popular colour would be pale blue and white. It can be worn buttoned up with light-coloured tailored trousers and tan accessories for a chic workwear outfit. It can also be worn over swimwear to elevate your beach/poolside look.
LEOPARD PRINT
You would have to be living on planet Mars to not notice the increase in leopard print outfits this year. Leopard print is the new neutral for SS/24, so this means wearing it as you would usually wear your neutrals. It can be a bit of a marmite type of print, but I have personally embraced it this season and found it really fun. So my advice would be to try it and see what you think - you might just love it.
Thanks for reading. Lots of love, Louise x

22 JUNE – 23 JULY
Are you giving enough thought to your future, Cancerian? It can be daunting to think about what is to come, but if you prepare well enough, then you won’t be as stressed when a tough time rears its ugly head. The best thing you can do for yourself is plan for your future. Furthermore, it seems you are grieving something in your life. Whether this be a person, opportunity, or a part of yourself, it’s okay to take the time you need to allow this feeling to pass. Grief is complicated and will be different for everyone. Finally, as a natural entrepreneur, your work life is extremely important to you. Keep working hard and enjoy the fruits of your labour! There’s not much better than being fulfilled by your job.
Leo
24 JULY – 23 AUG
This is your time to really embrace your party animal nature, Leo! You’ve worked hard the last few months and now you must allow yourself to let loose. Enjoy life and make the most of this moment. You like to have control and will stop at nothing to get it. However, sometimes life throws us a curveball we can’t do anything about. Keep hold of that control, but not so tight that you can’t be flexible. July is going to push you to grow very fast and lead you to the next phase of your life. It is likely you won’t even recognise yourself by the end of the month. This is in your best interest and will help you to achieve what you want in your life.
Virgo
24 AUG – SEPT 3
It seems you haven’t been able to focus much recently, which is making life a bit harder on your personal and professional life. Now is the time to buckle down and work on making some progress. Stop letting distractions lead you down an unproductive path. Furthermore, your selfconfidence is never something you need to work on! You are naturally very sure of yourself, which is something people admire. Keep this up but remember not to let this confidence turn into vanity. If you are working for a company, you may be feeling a bit stuck. This is your sign to break loose and have a project on the side. This doesn’t mean quit your job, all it means is to make sure you have a life away from work.
Libra
24 SEPT – 23 OCT
Are you struggling to juggle all of your priorities, Libra? You may be someone who has multiple roles within your work and many family responsibilities. You’re doing an excellent job at balancing these priorities, but in time, coping with it all may become overwhelming, therefore, trying to pass on some of your workload to others might be in your best interest. Furthermore, your heart is flowing with all the love and appreciation you have in your life. Emotional fulfilment and happiness are what your life is all about! Overall, you feel content in all aspects of your life and feel grateful for what you have. Finally, financial security is something very important to you. You will stop at nothing to get it, which is a trait your future self will thank you for.
SCORPIO
24 OCT – 22 NOV
Decisions, decisions, Scorpio! You have many thoughts going round your head at the moment, and it’s time to finally make up your mind. Don’t overthink this anymore than you already have. Towards the middle of July, you will have an entirely new perspective on your life. You are transforming into the person you always wished to be. This newfound perspective will bring about welcome changes. At the end of the day, all you want is security. No matter what decisions you make, or the person you become, everything you do is determined by your hard work to create the future you desire. This mindset will serve you well. Astrologically, Aquarius is playing a big role in your life at the moment.
Sagittarius
23 NOV – 21 DEC
The potential you possess is limitless, Sagittarius! You have so much just beneath the surface that is ready to express itself. Always remember to trust yourself, as you are a unique person that demands attention as soon as you walk in the room. Furthermore, you must take some time to rest and recharge your batteries. You may be working long hours and stuck in a highly stressful environment. Your energy is running on low, and the best thing you can do for yourself at the moment is relax. Ultimately, July is going to be about accepting yourself for who you are. Don’t push yourself to be someone new. Who you are right now is exactly who you need to be.
Capricorn
22 DEC – 20 JAN
You’re a social butterfly, Cap, and will be having a busy July indeed! You love being around people and will stop at nothing to make sure you have an active summer. You’re never going to be someone content with sitting at home all week and will always push yourself to keep busy. Furthermore, your professional life is very important to you (typical Capricorn!). You’re about to see some results in the coming weeks which will change everything for you in the best way possible. Your hard work is finally paying off. Finally, your charming personality is attracting many people into your life. Don’t worry about putting on a persona, as you naturally come across well. People like you for you.
Aquarius
21 JAN – 19 FEB
You must tell people how you feel, Aquarius. Sitting on all these thoughts and feelings isn’t doing you any good. In order to move on, talk to the people in your life who matter and get talking. As someone who likes a challenge, July isn’t going to be an easy month for you, but that’s how you like it! You’ve never been someone who enjoys going down the easy route. Taking on a brand new challenge in your life is just what you need. Finally, it is important to remember to take care of your finances this month and not spend frivolously. Keep a tight grip on your money at the moment and don’t waste it on things you don’t really need. Make sure you’re not in over your head with the practical aspects of your life.
Pisces
20 FEB – 20 MAR
Your subconscious is trying to tell you something, Pisces. Your life may be busy at the moment, but it’s important to slow down every now and then to listen to what your head is attempting to tell you. There might be something you’re not yet consciously aware of going on in your mind. As a water sign, you feel things intensely. Your emotions are building up and it’s time for a release. Whether that be talking to a friend, family member, or a therapist, getting your feelings out into the open will help immensely. Finally, if you have been trying to walk away from a conflict for a while now, take this as your sign to finally set yourself free.

The art of living room design
Ideas, tips, and inspiration
Your living room – it’s the heart of your home, a space for relaxation, connection, and expressing your style. But where to begin when faced with endless design choices?
Craft a living room that reflects you Before diving in, consider how you’ll use the space. Do you crave movie nights with friends or quiet evenings with a book? This will guide your furniture choices, from
plush sofas for movie marathons to cosy armchairs for reading nooks.
Focus on functionality
Think beyond aesthetics. Seating, tables, lighting – these are the essential building blocks. A spacious room might call for a sectional sofa, while a smaller space thrives with a comfy armchair and ottomans. Let functionality lead the way.
Small
space, big impact
Small living rooms can be just as inviting. A large rug grounds the space, while strategic lighting combats a cramped feel. Don’t be afraid of bold colours – a dark, dramatic hue can add depth, while lighter tones create an illusion of spaciousness.
Embrace your unique style
Modern? Industrial? Romantic? Minimalist? BoConcept offers a curated selection to suit any taste. From minimalist lines to plush textures, their furniture is as beautiful as it is functional.
You. In every detail
Go beyond cookie-cutter design. Collaborate with a designer to bring your vision to
life. Whether you crave a serene sanctuary or a vibrant space bursting with personality, they will help empower you to create a living room that reflects the true you.
For those seeking to create a living space that just the way you want it, booking a free interior design consultation with one of BoConcept’s experts is the perfect starting point.
It’s going to be massive, we have circumnavigated the globe and getting better with age. In our summer tours we have Frank Benbini from the Fun Loving Criminals bringing a new edge to our performances.
HAVING BEEN TOURING FOR ALMOST 50 YEARS, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FUNNIEST ON STAGE FAUX PAS?!
Great question. We did a Lands End to John O’ Groats tour and whilst in Blackpool we were dancing with some old ladies at Blackpool Tower who we swapped some drugs with! When we got to Inverness the next day we did an impromptu karaoke bar visit and whilst singing “Red Red Wine” we were booed off stage and told we sounded nothing like UB40! Ha!
ARE YOU FINDING AUDIENCES ARE MADE UP OF ORIGINAL UB40 FANS OR ARE YOU ATTRACTING THE NEW GENERATION OF REGGAE FANS?
I would say half and half. We know this ‘cos we ask at our concerts and get the crowd to respond!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN WRITING SONGS?
Anger does spur me on when writing, unless it’s a love song!
THE RECENT STEVEN KNIGHT ‘THIS TOWN’ SERIES
Fuelled by the voice that powered UB40 to 70 million record sales and over fifty UK chart hits, Ali Campbell is again bringing some much-needed reggae cheer into the world as he takes the latest incarnation of his extraordinary band to the world’s biggest stages. Building on a legacy that dates back 45 years to his formative years in inner-city Birmingham, singer and guitarist Ali’s touring ensemble remains the most authentic realisation of UB40’s original aim of advancing reggae in all its guises. You can catch him perform at Goffs Park in Crawley on Friday 12th July.
ON BBC FEATURES A FEW OF YOUR SONGS, IS THIS AN ACCURATE PORTRAYAL? DOES IT BRING BACK MEMORIES?
To be honest I couldn’t watch it. The main characters accent sounded nothing like a Borsel accent!
IF YOU ONLY HAD TO TAKE 3 THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
1. Seeds to grow my own marijuana
2. A pipe to smoke it
3. And a gun to shoot for food (that would be fun!)
WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL
CELEBRITY DINNER PARTY GUESTS?
Idris Elba is a top bloke, the legend that is Bob Marley, Sigmund Freud and Angela Davis.
BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
It might not be the best but it’s the funniest. Chris Blackwell, the owner of Island Records told me at the start of my career, “You have no commercial viability whatsoever!” At least I got to prove him wrong! We are friends now and I have stayed at his house Goldeneye in Jamaica so no bad feeling there!
MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM
IN YOUR WARDROBE?
Five toed shoes. They literally hug every toe! Feels so weird to wear them – so I hardly ever do!
WHAT ACTOR WOULD YOU HAVE PLAY YOU IN THE MOVIE VERSION OF YOUR LIFE?
Charlie Drake or Johnny Depp.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST CHARACTER TRAITS?
I am a funny man. I definitely love the life I live. I am also a real family man, I have 7 kids!
WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
Smoke weed. 24/7! I have been fighting for the legalisation of marijuana all my life.

CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF OUR SUMMER MENU AND ENJOY 15% OFF THROUGHOUT JULY & AUGUST
Surrey Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with Sana, the owner of award-winning burger restaurant Gourmet Burger Club, which now has restaurants in Banstead, Cobham and London with the premise of bringing the freshest and finest burgers to customers. That they have achieved in spades! In only 4 years in business Gourmet Burger Club has firmly established itself as the leading purveyor of burgers in Surrey and more recently London.
1. HOW DID YOUR CONCEPT OF GOURMET BURGER CLUB COME ABOUT?
The idea for Gourmet Burger Club was fuelled by my passion for cooking and entertaining people with flavour fusions from tastes around the world. The execution is a result of teamwork, persistence and lots of learning along the way. Opening a restaurant is not an easy task by any means as it involves a lot of planning especially in the economic
environment which is not favourable to the business starting on the high streets which is showing decline in footfall over the year. During Covid time I had a lot of time thinking what could be done and I came up with the idea of Gourmet Burger Club where everything is made fresh, nothing processed with lots of flavour. I developed the menu considering all the emerging trends and needs of the customers so that everyone can come and enjoy our food. All my signature sauces are prepared daily fresh from scratch with quality ingredients.
2. WHY SHOULD CUSTOMERS CHOOSE GOURMET BURGER CLUB?
At the Burger Club our concept is simple; fresh wholesome ingredients coming together for one and for one reason only, maximum flavour! Our signature recipes are the brainchild of our connoisseur extraordinaire, Sana, who has tried, tested and lovingly handcrafted every Burger, Entre, Salad and Club Sandwich on our menu to perfection. Each burger is lovingly handcrafted using 100% grass-fed British beef and the flavours are taken to new heights by the addition of complimentary tastes and textures.
3. WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM YOUR COMPETITORS?
We take pride in what we do, and we serve our customers as our personal guests which is evident from the feedback and the reviews, we get. Our Google review ratings on all restaurants are above 4.5 stars which is testament to the service and quality of food we provide. Biggest differentiator from our competition is that we prepare all our food from scratch in-house daily with fresh ingredients. We cater for all the needs of the customers like Vegan, Gluten Free and Vegetarians. Our menu is a complete menu with starters, mains, drinks and desserts, also our kids’ menu is very popular with the little ones.
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM ON
THE MENU?
Having created the menu myself, it’s very hard to choose just the one! If I had to say it would be the beef burger or chicken burger depends on my mood. Guests also love our onion rings which are pretty special! We have also introduced 12 flavours of premium Italian gelato ice-cream and milkshakes, including mint choc chip, bubblegum and toffee.
5. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPANSION PLANS?
We started our journey in September 2020 opening our first restaurant in Banstead Surrey. The first few years we
concentrated on making sure we created systems which deliver consistent guest experience with food and service. In 2023 we opened our second restaurant in Cobham and now in June 2024 we opened our biggest restaurant in the heart of Central London – The Strand Covent Garden with 85 covers. We are working on a development plan of opening another 2-3 restaurants next year and after that we may look into franchising our brand.

Disastrous Superfan TATTOOS
He wants to break free: Hopefully this Freddie Mercury tattoo can be easily covered up
SOME SERIOUSLY BAD CELEB INSPIRED TATTOOS HAVE BEEN SURFACING ON THE WEB OF LATE. SOME OF THESE INKINGS ARE BARELY RECOGNISABLE FROM THE CELEBS THESE CRAZY SUPERFANS HAVE SUPPOSEDLY PAYED HOMAGE TO! OUR PERSONAL FAVES ARE TUPAC SHAKUR AS A UNICORN AND PATRICK SWAYZE AS A CENTAUR – HALF HORSE/HALF DANCER –OF COURSE AND WHY NOT?!
If you were inclined to get a tattoo of Britney Spears, remembering when she shaved her head during a breakdown is probably not the moment you'd choose
It's not clear who this man resembles, but it's certainly not Robert Pattinson in Twilight
Would Cheryl turn her nose up at this tattoo? She's a fan of body art but she's not likely to be impressed
If it wasn't for the helpful wording at the bottom, this could be mistaken for a random tattoo of a man in a prison jumpsuit
Thankfully the initials MJ and the exaggerated nose give a clue as to who is pictured in this inking, which look as if it was drawn by a five-year-old
Showing her softer side: She was known as the Iron Lady but someone bizarrely decided to represent Margaret Thatcher as a cheerful ice cream cone
If the crazed fan Stan that Eminem rapped about got a tattoo, it might look a lot like this
Return to sender: At least that's what the recipient of this Elvis tattoo was probably thinking when they saw it
This inking has the double whammy of a smirking Patrick Swayze and some helpful life advice
If you're struggling to figure this one out, she's part of a famous family, everyone's name begins with K and she loves a
IF YOU HAVE SEEN ANYMORE CELEB TATS THAT ARE WORTHY OF OUR LIST POST THEM ON TWITTER TAGGING @SURREY_ROCKS AND THE BEST WILL WIN A DINNER FOR TWO AT A TOP SURREY RESTAURANT.
The face isn't a bad resemblance to Tupac, it's just a shame about the horn and hooves
Not having the time of his life: The late Patrick Swayze immortalised as a Centaur is an example of why it's best to stay away from the tattoo parlour
scantily clad selfie
In real life Thom Yorke has two eyes, rather than a single nipple on his face
The presidency is only eight years at the most, but this terrifying tattoo of Barack Obama is for life
A disaster of Titanic proportions: The hair alone is enough to make you google laser tattoo removal

Kate Staples has dedicated her life to health, fitness, and sports, leaving a lasting impact in each realm she ventures into. A British record holder in pole vaulting, having shattered 42 British records, and also a trailblazer for women in the sport, contributing to its inclusion in the Olympics. As 'Zodiac' on the hit TV show Gladiators she captivated millions of viewers every Saturday for six seasons, showcasing her strength and charisma on a grand stage.
WINNER BEST FITNESS
Despite facing a life changing injury when a 40ft training session fall on Gladiators left her with a double neck break, Kate Staples refused to be defeated. Following 12 hours surgery, she made a conscious decision to turn her adversity into inspiration for others, stating, "I was determined not to feel sorry for myself and to put my experiences to good use and inspire others."
Fifteen years ago, she joined forces with Olympic legend Daley Thompson to motivate and energise clients to get fit through bootcamps and overseas training holidays, providing a platform for adults to improve their health and overall well-being. Then, whikst trying to get Kate's daughter into a local athletics club, she discoveried there were long waiting lists and people were being turned away, Kate pivoted her focus towards working directly with schools, bringing in expert coaches, many of whom have represented their countries in competitions, to instill lessons in speed, functional fitness and important lifelong skills among children. Kate commented, "The challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown and school closures significantly impacted our operations, However, in the past year, the demand for our Breakfast and After School Clubs has surged and the kids are thoroughly enjoying the fun, games, teamwork and camaraderie of the clubs again".
In response to this growing demand, Kate Staples and her team now offer a diverse range of inclusive and fun clubs designed to engage children in enjoyable and exciting ways while promoting fitness and well-being. Working with hundreds of children each week in schools and community centres, Aspire to Greatness is inspiring and fostering a love of physical activity, quality movement and healthy habits from a young age. ❤
"Today's children are the least active generation in history and could be the first to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. I welcome any initiative which encourages more young people to become active. Aspire To Greatness is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get fit, develop skills and to have fun within schools and local communities."
Lord Sebastian Coe, President of the IAAF
"It's more important than ever that children are encouraged to be active, fit and healthy. The wonderful initiative Run, Jump, Throw that Kate and Daley have developed can help safeguard children's fitness and participation in sports".
