COMMUNIQUÉ OF HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, ACTIVISTS AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS AGAINST THE UNITED STATES ECONOMIC BLOCKADE TO THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE Caracas, August 6, 2019 Human rights organizations, activists, social movements and trade unions express our strongest condemnation against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States Government against the people of Venezuela, which constitute a serious violation of human rights and international law. On August 5th, 2019, the United States Government has issued a new Executive Order that orders all assets and stakes of the Government of Venezuela in the United States be blocked and cannot be transferred, paid, exported or withdrawn away from that country. This measure, along with those previously issued in an arbitrary and unilateral manner generates legal effects and international responsibility for those who apply them. Moreover, constitute a crime against humanity, since they hinder access to goods and services necessary for the social development of the Venezuelan people, in addition to violating international law, and the principle of self-determination. The Venezuelan people demand respect for their right to choose the form of government and leaders they want without interference from other States. Therefore, we reject once again all actions aimed at undermining their will and rights through economic pressures and attempts to destabilize the democracy in Venezuela by the imperialist powers of the world. In the face of these developments, we wish to express to the world that: 1. We express our deepest rejection to the economic actions and measures by the United States Government that attempt to exercise pressure against the Venezuelan people, which constitute a serious violation of international law and human rights. 2. We demand the United Nations to pronounce against the economic blockade against Venezuela and to establish international responsibility for violation of human rights to the United States. 3. We urge the States of the world to respect the rights of the Venezuelan people to selfdetermination and non-interference in their internal affairs and, especially, to cease the threats against them and the application of any unilateral coercive measures.
