“Continuing education is a top priority for me,” said Rhodes. “Not all education comes from the classroom, every experience PME has provided along the way has helped continue that education I so desire. With the help from people in the slot department, I have found myself learning new material constantly and feel very privileged to have mentors such as them.”

PME Executive Spotlight On Future Leaders

For Suquamish Tribal Member Veronica Rhodes, the right mix of hands-on training and education are key to long-term success at Clearwater Casino Resort

In 2010 Rhodes found herself participating in Leadership Kitsap to better her leadership skills. In 2011 she received a 40 under 40 award for her exceptional managerial skills and in 2012 she participated in an Executive Management Leadership Course through the University of Washington. Rhodes also completed a 10 day Executive Development Program in Nevada; she had the chance to work with casino executives from around the world on a project based on real world events. Rhodes expressed what an amazing experience the work shop was; with her years of experience she plans to further her education on a daily basis.

All the twists and turns in tribal member Veronica Rhodes’s life have given her the experience and confidence to be the person she is today. In 2003, Rhodes pursued a part time job at Clearwater Casino during her senior year of high school and began her career as a slot cashier. After graduating in 2003 Rhodes became a full time supervisor and applied for the PME Management Internship Program. After being accepted, Rhodes began her schooling at Olympic College and continued her job at the casino. As part of the internship program Rhodes, along with other interns, worked at PME during winter, spring and summer breaks to gain experience. “Being the first person in my family to attend college was definitely a cause for celebration, and I received a lot of support from my loved ones. I am thankful for the opportunities that PME and the Tribe have given me through work and the internship program,” Said Slot Shift

“My intended major is Business Administration. I thoroughly enjoy my current job working as a Shift Manager in the gaming industry and would love to continue my education in business. I intend to remain with PME and to eventually obtain an executive position. A business degree would help me in my path to my eventual goal,” said Rhodes.
