SAINT LAURENT SUMMER 2019 #YSL21 BY ANTHONY VACCARELLO & PHOTOGR APHED BY Juergen Teller

Creative director Anthony Vaccarello has collaborated with legendary photographer Juergen Teller on his Saint Laurent Summer 2019 #YSL21 Campaign, featuring a supermodel cast including Freja Beha Erichsen, Abbey Lee, Julia Nobis and Mica Arganaraz. The grounds of the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni on glamourous Lake Como in Italy was a fitting location for Teller’s iconic style. A match made in Heaven? Oh yes. Visit: www.ysl.com

Domaine de Verchant Montpellier, France

Domaine de Verchant is Montpellier’s only five-star hotel and upon approach to the hotels gated driveway, you get a hint of how distinctive this place is. Easily accessible from the UK and Europe due to the close proximity to Montpellier Airport, Domaine de Verchant is the ideal long-weekend getaway. Set amongst many acres of countryside and vineyards in historical Montpellier, a City full of medieval charm and culture, Domaine de Verchant boasts a lot of space considering they harbour only 27 rooms. But the traditional building is sensibly accompanied with new builds consisting of a luxury spa, 2 restaurants, 2 bars and 3 swimming pools. Further down the coast from the popular Cote d’Azur, Montpellier is often overlooked as a holiday destination by those who head for the glamour of Cannes & Monaco. But Montpellier has much more. Our guide walked us through some incredible historical sites, including Jardin des plantes de Montpellier, Frances oldest botanical garden, the 14th-century Saint Pierre Cathedral plus we visited a former Jewish bath located underground with natural water, where one would fully submerge (including head) to cleanse. The Musee Fabre de Montpellier has well-curated artworks including some notable contemporary collections, well worth a visit before hitting the shops for some retail therapy. The grounds of Domaine de Verchant allow for numerous strolls and include a high-end restaurant - Verchant, where you will enjoy a plethora of fine dining options from Chef Damien Cousseau, as well as a huge selection of wines - the Verchant cellar boasts over 10,000 wines! La Plage is

a hipper semi-outdoor venue, with a sexy infinity pool overlooking the vines, live music, DJ’s, tapas and great cocktails. Expect a relatively young and mixed crowd, the odd celebrity and a very relaxed and positive atmosphere. There are 5 types of rooms and suites, apartments plus The Villa Sarnelly, a private mansion within the grounds. The service is impeccable at Domaine de Verchant and we felt that the pace of living had slowed down some, so it’s the ideal place to escape and put your feet up by the pool, with your every need catered for. Tip - check out the wine cellar and look out for wine-tasting events, as Domaine de Verchant is a producer of some excellent wines. Words & Photography by Ian Cole for Client Voyage. *Client Voyage has a larger written feature on the hotel, restaurant and spa, released in Spring 2019.

Château de Mercuès Cahors, France Photography by Ian Cole

Château de Mercuès Cahors, France

Located just over an hour North of Toulouse in the historic market town of Cahors, Château de Mercuès is a truly unique property. Sat proudly on a hilltop overlooking the town, forming part of a luxury wine-estate, where the finest French hospitality meets gastronomic pleasures and historic wine expertise. This medieval castle is striking and elegant and dates back to the 13th century. It is grand in every sense of the word, and our weekend stay ended far too soon. The 30-room hotel is set amongst 32 hectares of Malbec vines with an envious underground wine cellar. Waking up to the sound of joyous songbirds in the morning is accompanied only by the stillness and silence of the beautiful Lot Valley. Nothing beats fresh air, apart from when the staircase is filled with the aromas of the breakfast table, where you will be fed like a Prince. The huge estate features a park with 4 km of running trails and hiking paths (with bikes available at the hotel), outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool with epic views, a heliport and the hotel is petfriendly. For French gourmet with fanfare, Le Duèze has a devilishly grand dining room, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2017 under talented Chef Julien Poisot. The wine list showcases Georges Vigouroux wines and as the Vigouroux family are Malbec wine specialists with three decades of expertise, the perfect pairing with each course is assured, and a rare treat in these surroundings.

Nothing is rushed at Château de Mercuès and the fine dining is no exception. Take your time, savour the flavours, talk about the cuisine between courses, drink lots of wine, ask questions about the wine, but just enjoy every moment. This is a memorable place, maybe even magical and you will definitely be looking forward to your next visit... Words & Photography by Ian Cole for Client Voyage. *Client Voyage has a larger written feature, along with extensive photo-essay of Châ-

Leic a Osk ar Barnack Award 2018

P h o t o g rap hy by Ma x Pinc ke r s W in n er: Os k ar Ba r na c k Awa r d 2018

S ometimes you have to listen to an artist to really un-

derstand the true meaning behind their work. Sometimes. I’ve always been satisfied with looking at the work of a photographer or artist and coming to my own conclusions about their statement. But on a rare occasion, when you listen to an artist talk about their work and the meaning behind it, it really fulfils the intention and moment of the piece or series. I was reminded of this during a trip to Berlin to attend the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnak Awards and Exhibition last October. With the photography world saturated by ‘people with cameras’ and fueled by social media bots, it was refreshing to discover that I was stood in a room full of real artists, surrounded by images that were not just willingly taken with a Leica camera, but with heart and spirit. And you could FEEL it. It was that simple. You could feel it. I learnt a long time ago that true artists don’t concern themselves with what others are doing because they’re too focused on their own creating. Being individual and realising your own vision overrides everything else. If your focus is more on who is doing what, then you’re probably not at the stage of ‘artist’.

The body of work in the room was so much more empowering than a bunch of Instagram posts with millions of likes and unquestionably inspiring - an entirely overused word, but certainly relevant here. It would also be honest for me to say that attending these awards had a profound effect on me as a photographer and as an editor. It reminded me why I do what I do and that we must never compromise. Look at how good an artist each person is, their integrity, their authenticity - those are the elements that matter, not how many likes somebody has on Instagram or how good you are at manufacturing an aesthetically pleasing profile. You should be far too busy for that. Belgian photographer Max Pinckers won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2018 and Russian photographer Mary Gelman won the Newcomer Award 2018 - a selection of each series is featured here. The Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2019 is now open for submissions. Visit: www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com Words by Ian Cole, Editor-in-Chief

Howler Brothers is a clothing company based in Austin Texas that produces a limited run, high-quality clothing and goods that draw inspiration from the style and tradition of surfing and coastal sports. The brand was founded in 2010 by Chase Heard and Andy Stepanian who aren’t brothers but friends since their teen years. Both founders share a common love for surfing, fishing, paddling and the good things that come with these pursuits. Things like fire pits, really good tequila, limes, and pre-dawn coffee. The Howler Brothers vision and brand’s name was inspired by the call of the Howler Monkey. The brand is fiercely committed to honesty, with attention to detail and functionality deemed its highest priority.

Even though the ideology and concept of Howler Brothers is strongly rooted in the great outdoors, the rugged style, design, and fit of the collective perfectly lends itself to traversing the great urban landscape. Visit: www.howlerbros.com

FILA INDIA X NBNW NORBLACK NORWHITE

FILA in its partnership with NORBLACK NORWHITE, has become the first global brand to collaborate on an entire sportswear collection with an Indian streetwear brand. India always had a rich tradition of handcrafted textiles as does Italy. India also has a vibrant streetwear scene that is growing. What better way to pay homage to both, than for FILA, the iconic Italian sportsfashion brand than to create it’s first ever Heritage collaboration with indie streetwear brand NORBLACK NORWHITE? FILA has always been innovative. From its humble textile beginnings in Biella, Italy in 1911 until the present. In 1973, FILA made a bold statement by introducing colour to the tennis court. Commitment to performance & sophistication has always been at the forefront of the FILA philosophy. NORBLACK NORWHITE is a design house and cultural platform with its beginnings rooted in the immigrant communities of Toronto. Living in India for the past decade, NBNW realized it’s brand by exploring culture & creativity through craft, colour, & patterns. NBNW’s Mriga Kapadiya & Amrit Kumar were super excited when Fila first approached them about the collaboration and admitted they never have designed athletic wear. They further stated, “Creating within the FILA form and brand has taken us out of our comfort

zone and pushed the boundaries on our design capacity.” FILA India’s Creative Director, Abdon Lepcha worked closely with NBNW for almost a year to design its limited edition collection. Iconic FILA silhouettes were fused with NBNW signature colours, prints and patterns. The collaboration is a fusion of Indian streetwear with sports fashion. The collection which debuted November 2018 exclusively in stores in India, features baseball jerseys, tracksuits, fanny packs, tees and a special edition Disruptor. The collection is available in select outlets including the FILA Heritage store at Flora Fountain Mumbai, Veg Non Veg store @vegnonveg in Mumbai and online on Koovs.com. @koovsfashion FILA Heritage store BOMBAY,. ‘Less Fashion/More Authenticity’

Esenshel is a men’s and women’s headwear collection which is based in the USA. New York accessory designer Rodney Patterson launched his line of unique hats in 2014 after several successful years working as a stylist & visual director for leading fashion companies. The brand’s name is derived from the phonetic spelling of the word ‘essential’. Rodney landed on and chose the name Esenshel because of its dictionary meaning. As an adjective it means, absolutely necessary, and extremely important. Crucial, key and vital. That aesthetic is evident in each season’s collection of must-have accessories which are meticulously crafted by hand of the finest materials in a small workroom in Brooklyn. Some hats are blocked, and others are sewn. Construction fibres include hemp, straw, & wool felt.

tangible accessory items. These were items he envisioned but found were unavailable in the marketplace. Ensenshel accessories are modern classics, thoughtful & unique in shape as well as proportion while catering to the discerning tastes of the modern urban wearer. Rodney has designed hats for Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and many others. The current collection focuses on headwear and future collections will include bags & outerwear. Eseshel headwear is sold in better designer and luxury stores with prices starting at $295. Visit: www.esenshel.com

The foundation of the collection was designed and built to be an extension of the wearer, reflecting his or her lifestyle. It was born from Rodney’s creative desire to express himself through the development of

AQ UA VI TA E, Th e Dri n k W i th A Dif fer enc e Fo r W h i sk y Lovers Aqua Vitae is a new single malt whisky rich in both flavour and history. It was crafted and distilled at Lindores Abbey located in Fife, Scotland. It was at this very location in the year 1494 the journey of single malt whisky first began. Aqua Vitae is the original name for Scotch whiskey. In the year 1494, The Exchequer Roll named Brother John Cor, who was a monk at Lindores Abbey as the person commissioned by King James IV to turn ‘eight bolls of malt’, which is the equivalent of 400 bottles of whisky today, into Aqua Vitae. This was the earliest written reference to Scotch whisky. Aqua Vitae, at the time, was enjoyed by royalty and commoners alike. Now after some 523 years, production of this complex spirit, with its warm notes of spices and fruit topped with a light herbal finish, has begun its flow from copper stills. Available for purchase, Aqua Vitae is a perfect drink selection for the festive season. Lindores Abbey was originally founded in 1191 by David Earl of Huntingdon, on land overlooking the River Tay. The land was given to him by his brother King William I and visited by Kings, Queens, warriors and statesmen. William Wallace took refuge there with 300 of his men after their victory over the English.

Abbey Distillery and Visitor Centre has been crafted from original Abbey stone. It features an illustrated history of the Tironensian monks who founded the Abbey. The records, artefacts and scriptures of their time at Lindores are all on display. Lindores Abbey Distillery is owned by Helen and Drew McKenzie Smith who opened the distillery to the public in 2017 after over 20 years of planning and research. The distillery and visitor centre have already been awarded the coveted five-star accreditation by VisitScotland. The stunning new Cloister at the venue also serves as a unique event and private dining space. Aqua Vitae has a natural golden colour with aromatic and light top notes of peach and pear yielding to sultry amounts of ginger, clove and cinnamon spices. A palate of cooked plum and pineapple follows, underpinned with rich caramel sweetness and a touch of bitter lemon finished with complex and rewarding light herbal notes. Aqua Vitae is abundantly rich and delicious simply served on its own. It’s also the perfect spirit for a cocktail. Written by Nathan Best

Pr ox i mo C lothing “The New Classic”

Earlier this year, Proximo Clothing Company launched it’s first limited edition menswear collection.

Garments of traditional fabrics may be overworked, distressed & embellished with metal studs & stones.

Inspired by the rock star & denim cultures, designer/ photographer, Nathan Best focused on slim fitting jackets and jeans in his quest to create new and hip interpretations of classic designs.

“When the fabric is really cool and different,” Best says, “I tend to keep the design lines pretty much architectural and feature some special treatment like an oversized pocket on the back of a jacket, a flared sleeve bottom or industrial zippers.”

Produced in the USA, The goal of the brand is to offer unique distinctive garments that are executed without compromise. Zippered sleeves, elongated collars, cuffs, & oversized pockets provide a hip cool modern aesthetic for looks that are constructed with impeccable workmanship in edgy fabrics like coated denim, vinyl and laminates.

No matter the treatment, attention to detailed fine tailoring is paramount. Besides offering custom, made o order, and one of a kind couture garments, Proximo will include shirts, slacks, blazers & coats in its future collections.

“I want everyone who wears Proximo to stand out from the crowd & feel like a rock star.” Nathan Best, CEO Proximo Clothing Co

Oisín Hunt is a progressive Irish menswear brand that puts an emphasis on using the finest of fabrics produced in Ireland. It’s also important for the Dublin-based brand to challenge the norm and explore the idea of developing new ideas when it comes to shaping their garments, through the use of fabrics, wiring and the silhouette. Spring/Summer 2019: Following on from their AW18 collection, for SS19 we see signature cuts execute deconstructive patterns and geometrical shapes, but this time experimenting with new materials. The designer here shoulders three internal themes: Visual mirroring, suit shaping, the sexualization of male hips, and emptiness.

Here, in this nowhere of New York, style, attitude and tricked appearance serve a quest for physical desire. The modern Dandy uses clothing as a tool for role construction. When, ‘take your clothes and leave’ meets ‘stay here or I’ll miss you’, the high-end spirits of the night stay awake to see the sunrise. Sweet eyes, soft materials, heavy breathing, hot tea, seduction is part of the modern Dandy etiquette. The designer Samuel Dionne wanted to imagine how the modern Dandy wardrobe could be actualised and take part in down to earth issues without losing its essence aesthetics and prestige. Looking for a dreamed, almost lost, beauty ideal, the collection questions the binary gender identity constructed by the society. All garments are part of Samuel Dionne collection. Samuel Dionne just graduated of UQAM in the Fashion Design program. He is a young designer inspired by people of convictions living in a world that has forever lost the luxury of contemplation and dandyism.

charXchen “It started as an infatuation with wearable objects that keep secrets and tell stories. The little things that bring sparkles to our lives. Every charXchen piece is meant to be an everyday companion, to be worn, and gather experiences (big + small) with you, that’s how Seattle-based charXchen explain the ethos behind their brand. Jewellery is an intimate gift, whether you are buying for a friend or a loved one or treating yourself, so what wonderfully personal attitude for a designer to have. Inspired by the geometric and linearity forms in nature, charXchen enables ideas to connect and they create intricate pieces that become a loyal friend to those who wear them. During production, only high-quality materials are used and for the current collection, we see pieces cast in brass, sterling silver, and 14K gold, plated in 20K gold, 18K gold, rose gold, or white gold. Everything is handmade and never rushed. Based on the concepts of light, Charlotte has added a family of styles and colours to her newest collection. Whilst retaining the geometric forms from the previous set, the new collection beholds its own sensitive characteristics. Char X Chen was able to bring the pieces to life by using gemstones that interact with light. Each cut stone is unique and has a varied opacity, so no two pieces are the same. M a est r o DOB E L Tequila

C ha n g i n g the Game Maestro DOBEL, renowned for producing small batches of single estate tequila, has reinvented the craftsmanship and connoisseurship of tequila with its introduction of Maestro DOBEL Diamante® and Maestro DOBEL Humito® tequilas. They are joined in the UK by its extended family of DOBEL Añejo, an aged tequila offering rich flavours reminiscent of American Whiskey and DOBEL Silver tequila. All are handcrafted using 100% blue agave that that is allowed to mature for no less than eight years in rich soil, under the shadows of Tequila’s volcanoes in Jalisco, Mexico.

from the 17th century, by using a secret technique, Maestro’s expert tequila distiller harnessed aromatic mesquite wood during the production of this tequila. Its extraordinary balance of smoky notes and agave create a delicately complex, aromatic and sultry liquid perfect to mix in your favourite smoked cocktail. The Maestro Dobel family in its steadfast commitment to quality and tradition, continually seeks to inspire those who appreciate the finest of tequilas as well extending an invitation to new customers who enjoy white spirits and single malt whisky to try their tequilas.

Diamante is the world’s first clear multi-aged tequila. Extra-Añejo, Añejo, and Reposado Tequila are blended and aged in fine European oak barrels then double filtered using a gamechanging, proprietary Cristalino technique which produces a crystal clear liquid that is renowned for its character and smoothness. Diamante, which has created excitement in its homeland of Mexico, is a game changer that has a soft, silky smooth spirit which is best enjoyed sipped neat or on the rocks.

The contemporary Maestro DOBEL bottle design is inspired by the vintage, apothecarystyle sample bottles used by the distillery’s Maestro Tequileros (Master Distillers) in the nineteenth century. Each bottle is numbered, dated and then signed by its creator, Juan Domingo ‘Dobel’ Beckmann.

Humito is the world’s first smoked silver tequila. In a quest to replicate the tequila taste
