Make It a Priority. Nineteen out of 20 students polled in the MySCCC Portal so far say that they plan on registering for the Spring during the online Priority Registration period, which runs through November 11. Login to the Portal and click on “Registration/Register for Classes” along the left side to get started.

Monday, November 4 Guitar Recital Featuring Alumnus Christopher Gotzen-Berg (Class of 1999) – 11:20 a.m., Taylor Auditorium.

Gotzen-Berg is a Professor of Classical Guitar at Molloy College.

Suicide Prevention Workshop – 11:20 a.m., Activity Forum. Speaker: Dr. Joseph Hunter, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Albany Stratton VA Medical Center. Learn about warning signs of a suicide crisis, risk factors, and strategies for responding safely.

Slow Food Club – 11:45 a.m., Culinary Seminar Room, Elston 100. Open to all SCCC students.

Rhythms Literary Club – 11:25 a.m., Elston 420. Rhythms is SCCC’s student-run literary club. The group’s primary function is to produce an annual magazine of literature (short stories, plays, poems, songs, essays, etc.) and artwork (drawings, photographs, etc.), created by SCCC students, faculty and staff. We also sponsor coffee-houses, readings, and other literary events. All students are welcome.

know it when you see it before you can fix it. Learn to identify plagiarism; it's not just buying a paper from Essays 'R Us or copying from a friend. Seating is limited; first-come, first-served. Presented by Librarian Carrie Buff and the Learning Center's Siu Ng in the Begley Library conference room (first door on your left as you enter the Library). Also Wednesday.

Student Volunteer Organization Weekly Meeting – 11:20 a.m., Elston 236. The goal of the Student Volunteer Organization (SVO) is to connect the students with the community for the purpose of learning about the community and serving the needs of the people. All students welcomed.

Chamber Music Series Concert featuring Pianist John Kamitsuka – 7:30 p.m., Taylor Auditorium. Pianist John Kamitsuka, a favorite of the Chamber Music Series, returns in a solo recital performing selected works from Bach’s "Well-Tempered Clavier" as well as the "Sonata in A-flat Major, Op 110" by Beethoven and the "Sonata No. 7" by Prokofieff. The New York Times writes: “Mr. Kamitsuka's Bach has qualities in common with Gould's. ... But there are finer aspects to his Bach playing as well, most notably a laser-like focus that kept every strand of counterpoint clear, clean and independent. ... Strikingly, he used no pedal at all, creating a variety of articulation and color - crisp staccato. ..." Free.

Matt Grattan (pictured), Workforce Development Director, recently spoke at the Schenectady Rotary Club about new initiatives at SCCC. Office of Development Executive Director Carmel Patrick recently did the same at a meeting with the American Association of University Women.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation seeks high-performing community college transfer students with financial need who plan to transfer to a top four-year college or university for its Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Selected students may use the award for tuition, living expenses, books, and other required fees, may pursue any area of study, will have the opportunity to network with the larger JKCF Scholar community, and will receive up to $30,000 each year, making this scholarship the largest private scholarship for community college transfer students in the country. If you know any students who stand out for their exceptional academic abilities and achievements, persistence, leadership and desire to help others, please encourage them to visit the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s website to learn more.
