The Program

Financial performance is the primary measure of success for organizations large and small, and capital management plays a pivotal role in their present and future achievements. To ensure long-term prosperity, companies need professionals who are well-versed in financial strategy and decision-making.

The Bachelor of Science in Finance, housed in the College of Business at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, equips students with the essential tools and expertise to become influential financial leaders. The program provides a thorough foundation in the core principles of finance while fostering key skills in analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making that are vital in the fast-paced financial landscape.

With a specialized focus on financial markets, corporate finance, investments, and financial planning, students are well-prepared for diverse career paths across both public and private sectors. Complementary coursework in business management also broadens their understanding of organizational dynamics, ensuring they graduate with a well-rounded perspective on business operations.

Through hands-on learning, real-world case studies, and access to industry professionals, students gain practical experience with a curriculum designed to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the financial world.

PROGRAM MODALITIES

SUNY Poly offers two flexible learning options for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Finance: on-campus and fully online.

• On Campus: The on campus program is intended for students enrolling directly out of high school or for transfer students who hold an associate’s degree.

• Online: The online program is tailored for transfer students who have completed at least 45 credit hours at an accredited college or university or for adult learners with three or more years of full-time work experience after finishing high school or earning an equivalent credential (transfer students, only).

SUNY Poly’s programs in the College of Business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

AACSB accreditation is the largest and most recognized specialized accreditation worldwide. Less than 6% of the world’s 16,000 business programs are AASCB accredited.

Why does AACSB accreditation matter?

A school that is AASCB accredited…

• Ensures high-quality education that meets rigorous academic standards.

• Gives you a competitive edge in the job market with better career prospects.

• Provides networking opportunities and worldwide recognition of excellence.

The annual New York Business Plan Competition promotes entrepreneurial opportunities for college students across the region to pitch their business plans for the chance to win cash prizes, receive feedback from experts in the field, gain exposure to potential investment opportunities, and engage with mentors and judges from the business community. SUNY Poly hosts the Mohawk Valley regional semifinal, with finalists advancing to the state finals and the chance to win $25,000 to bring their business plan to life.

Elias Zeina ’17, MBA ’19 participated in the NYBPC twice as a student, first pitching an idea for a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant, and later refining it into “Lafa,” a restaurant that he’s brought to life post-graduation.

Now Elias gives back to the competition as the event sponsor.

“Participating in the NYBPC was a pivotal experience during my student years. The constructive feedback received at the regional and state competitions equipped me with strategic planning tools, creative thinking skills, and confidence to establish my own business.”
