conversation and insights about the works and composer. Each season, orchestras the world over delight in performing one of classical music’s most well-known and uplifting master-

works. Jonathan Kandell of Smithsonian magazine writes, “A musical rite of the holiday season, the Baroque-era oratorio still awes listeners 250 years after the composer’s death.” In

1789, Mozart posthumously paid Handel the supreme compliment of reorchestrating Messiah but even Mozart confessed himself to be humble in the face of Handel’s genius describing his orchestrations: “When he chooses, he strikes like a thunderbolt.” In 1823, Beethoven proclaimed Handel to be the ‘greatest’ composer that ever lived.

“South Florida Symphony Orchestra is delighted to reprise its annual Messiah and Holiday Pops performances,” said Jacqueline Lorber, President and CEO of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. “Music is the universal language that unites us all. Beethoven’s luminous Piano Concerto No. 4 and Dvorak’s Bohemian Eighth deepen the journey, while Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol whirls with Spanish flair. SFSO is also proud to present upcoming orchestra firsts by GRAMMYnominated composers, including the Florida premiere of Had to Be by Haitian American Nathalie Joachim, featuring breakout cellist Seth Parker Woods, and Carlos Simon’s Four Black American Dances.

Emmanuel captured most of the performances on Living in the Light in one or two takes, and the sense of joy and wonder in these sonic explorations is more than just palpable; it’s intoxicating. While many of the recordings are solo instrumentals, Emmanuel lends his voice to several of the album’s tracks, as well, grounding his dazzling, percussive fretwork with a poignant dose of warmth and vulnerability. “There are elements of rockabilly, blues, even traditional African music all woven into the music,” Emmanuel explains. “I’m a world traveler and I’ve absorbed so much music along the way. Tommy Emmanuel first began touring at the age of six in his native Australia as part of a family band. In his teenage years, he turned heads as a highly sought after session player and sideman, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with some of the biggest names in Australian music, including Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins; who would later become a friend, mentor and collaborator, Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of critically and commercially acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with the likes of Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a GRAMMY Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with everyone from Les Paul and Mark Knopfler to Joe Walsh and Richard Thompson. “Lost To The Future”

Global Search Narrows For Missing Gibson ES-345 Cherry Red Guitar Played By

In one of the most iconic scenes in film history, a Gibson ES-345 Cherry Red guitar took center stage in the film Back to the Future—and today, it’s making history again. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the beloved Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment film starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, and in honor of October 21 —officially recognized as Back to the Future Day—Gibson, the legendary global instrument brand, in partnership with Universal Products and Experiences proudly announces the Back to the Future Collection. Featuring limitededition ES-345 models from Gibson Custom and Epiphone, as well as an exclusive apparel line, the Back to the Future Collection is designed to thrill both guitar enthusiasts and fans of the iconic film. Music and film fans can stop by the Gibson Garage Nashville and London locations to see the entire Back to the Future Collection in person, and worldwide via Gibson.com.

This summer, Gibson and Michael J. Fox launched a global “Lost to the Future” search for the original Gibson ES-345™ Cherry Red guitar played by Fox in Back to the Future during the unforgettable “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance scene—a moment that inspired generations of musicians after Marty McFly’s electrifying performance of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode.” Despite efforts to find the guitar during the filming of the sequel, the guitar’s whereabouts remained a mystery. Fans worldwide have been submitting tips at: www.LostToTheFuture.com, and after thousands of submissions, Gibson has narrowed the search and is actively pursuing a handful of promising leads to locate and authenticate what may be the most significant guitar in movie history.

“Bringing this guitar to life has been a passion project for many years, and it’s incredibly exciting to finally see it become a reality,” says Mark Agnesi, Director of Brand Experience at Gibson. “We couldn’t be prouder of how these guitars turned out—they’re truly special. This is the guitar that inspired me, and countless others from my generation, to pick up playing in the first place.”

The Back to the Future 1955 ES-345 Collector’s Edition from Gibson Custom is limited to just 88 guitars worldwide, a nod to The Time Machine from the film, and features a stunning Cherry Red finish with exclusive design details. The Epiphone Back to the Future ES-345, limited to 1,985 guitars globally, celebrates the year the blockbuster film hit theaters and offers fans an accessible way to own a piece of cinematic and musical history. In addition to the guitars, there’s also an exclusive range of Back to the Future apparel and accessories, including tees, hats, collectible guitar pick tins, a guitar strap, and an AXE HEAVEN® mini guitar that will delight collectors and fans alike.

Limited to only 88 pieces—a nod to the film’s time-traveling speed—the Collector’s Edition is handcrafted by the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. Every detail, from the reverseengineered 1950s specs to the andstained Cherry Red finish, has been meticulously recreated. Each guitar comes housed in a Lifton hardshell case adorned with Marvin Berry and The Starlighters graphics, along with a curated selection of case candy, making this a truly timeless collector’s piece. The new Epiphone Back to the Future ES-345 is a replica of the legendary Gibson ES-345™ based on the model that Michael J. Fox aka Marty McFly plays in the film Back to the Future. A loving tribute to this cultural icon, the Epiphone Back to the Future ES-345™ features a five-ply layered maple semi-hollowbody with a solid maple centerblock for enhanced sustain and improved feedback resistance. The top has four-ply binding with single-ply binding on the back. The mahogany neck has a comfortable rounded C profile and is topped with a single-ply bound rosewood fretboard with

apparel division will release a collection of exclusive, film-inspired merchandise. Ranging from AXE Heaven mini ES-345™ Cherry Red guitars to guitar pick tins, straps, T-shirts, and hats inspired by the film, the Back to the Future collection promises to be an exciting addition to any fans collection.

About Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Back to the Future: Released 40 years ago on July 3, 1985, Back to the Future introduced audiences to Marty McFly (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Michael J. Fox), a small-town California teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a plutoniumpowered DeLorean invented by his eccentric friend, Doc Brown (Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd). Stranded in the past, Marty must ensure his teenage parents (Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover) fall in love or risk erasing his own existence. With time running out, he teams up with a younger Doc in a last-ditch effort to harness a bolt of lightning and return to 1985.

Although the movie’s high school dance takes place in 1955, the guitar used was a Gibson ES345™, a model originally introduced in 1959. Built with a thinline, three-ply ES body of maple-poplar-maple and a solid maple centerblock for enhanced sustain and reduced feedback, this instrument is as sonically rich as it is visually striking. The mahogany neck, joined with hide glue and featuring a long tenon, sports a 1961 Authentic Thin D-Shape profile and a bound rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets. True to the original guitar’s rare design, it includes a single parallelogram inlay at the 12th fret—a detail unique to the original guitar that was used in the Back to the Future film.

Equipped with a pair of unpotted Gibson Custombucker pickups featuring alnico 3 magnets, the guitar offers a wide tonal palette. Each pickup is hand-wired to individual volume and tone controls using CTS® potentiometers and paper-inoil capacitors. The Murphy Lab’s expert aging process gives the guitar a beautifully worn-in look, honoring both the legacy of Gibson’s craftsmanship and the cinematic moment that made this model iconic.

Imagine carrying a heavy weight around with you every day. With it, you can’t move fast or far. Your back hurts. Your legs are sore. Your burden is exhausting. Would you continue holding onto this weight if you didn’t have to? Of course not, you would drop it as soon as possible. Without the weight, your quality of life would improve immensely.

Too many people carry around the heavy emotional weight of worry and stress. This burden has destructive effects. When it’s held onto constantly, physical and mental ailments are common. Since you would readily drop a heavy physical weight, why is it so hard to let go of these mental burdens?

You have become conditioned throughout life to hold onto worry and stress. People all around you set the wrong example by their own incessant worry. Although worry and stress are so destructive, you hesitate letting them go. After all,

they’ve been your companions for a lifetime. Worry and stress never make circumstances better. They can make them worse. Worry and stress never make you feel better. They can make you feel worse. Since worry and stress are so negative, your best option is just letting them go. Letting go of stress and worry requires reconditioning on your part. You have to alter your way of thinking along with your reaction to problems. No excuses. No justification. Don’t say to yourself or others any of the following: “I have good reason to worry.” “I’m always so stressed out by this.” “What am I supposed to do?” “It’s so unfair.” “Why does this always happen?” “I am so worried it makes me sick.”

Any of these justifications cause stress and worry to become engrained as a way of life. Letting them go requires changing your thinking. Different results require a different approach. Don’t blame other people or circumstances. You are the only one who can let it go.

Letting it go is a simple concept which seems difficult. In the same manner you would open your hand to drop a weight, you can release your worry and stress. Visualize a trap door in your mind. All of your worries and troubles are piled right on top of the trap door. Now open the trap door and imagine all of your stress and worries falling into oblivion.

Each time you feel stress and worry accumulating, open your trap door and watch the stress and worry drop away. You are striving to develop a new habit which lets go of stress and worry.

Telling yourself that this approach is not so easy sabotages your success. Conditioning yourself to let it go does take effort and determination, but it is doable. At first, you may find yourself instinctively holding onto stress and worry instead of letting them go. Whenever you start to hold on, open the trap door. As you repeat this process, you will begin letting stuff go more often than holding onto it.

There are numerous benefits to letting go of stress and worry. You will be more relaxed. You will be happier. You will feel better physically and emotionally. You will be less irritable. As a result, you will have a clearer perspective so you will make better decisions. Although you are letting go of stress and worry you must still take action to deal with pertinent issues. You should be concerned about circumstances which require your attention. Being proactive is prudent. As the trap door strategy becomes your automatic response to stress and worry, you will wonder why you didn’t utilize this strategy sooner. All that matters is that you are letting stuff go now. It is a much better way to live.

Veterans Day - The Past, Present And Future

As we celebrated Veterans Day this week, supporting veterans’ needs to happen every day. During this uncertain time, we often take for granted that our freedoms and most importantly our safety depends not simply on our first responders but our armed forces as well. While many are questioning having armed forces in big cities, their presence assisting police has proven to help and send a message that lawlessness will not be tolerated.

Inter-agency cooperation has always taken place. Not every department has the resources during critical events to respond at the necessary levels. Agencies also depend on intelligence to solve crimes. While we thankfully have not had riots or mayhem, we have had acts of antisemitism.

Recently, we had a repeated incident of graffiti on a sidewalk along Northeast 12th Avenue. Our Police Department has been working with the Broward Sheriff’s Office for additional surveillance technology and Crime Stoppers to put up a 5,000-dollar reward for information that can help solve and find the perpetrator. If you have a tip to report, call: 954-4938477 (TIPS).

This past Sunday, 85 years ago marked Kristallnacht when properties owned by Jews in Germany were targeted & attacked. Windows were shattered in businesses and homes; Buildings were painted with swastikas and other antisemitic markings. I could not stop thinking on Tuesday what my father would be thinking as a World War II Army Airforce gunner and radar operator would have to

say about what is going on in the world now. He, like many soldiers, enlisted and gave patriotically to defend Europe and the world against the Nazis. The armed forces united fought and won. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice.

My Dad never spoke about the war when I was younger. Every Veterans Day I would call him, tell him I love him and thanked him for his service. He was incredibly involved in the VFW and always active. When he would come down to stay, he and I would celebrate along with the many retired soldiers who have regretfully passed. We would have the service and then go to the American Legion. The Legion is open and always looking for volunteers and donations. They are located at the corner of Southeast 1st Avenue and Southeast 3rd Street. Check them out on Facebook.

Over the years, my dad would be my wingman and on occasion escort me to events. One event years ago was at the South Broward Chabad. At the event, he met a Holocaust survivor. They struck up a conversation and she found out he was a WWII Veteran. She got a tear in her eye and hugged him and thanked him for serving and saving her. Our armed forces liberated the many Jews in death camps.

While he was not on the ground, he did bomb Italy and Germany. He felt a sense of guilt from dropping bombs on his parents’ home country of Italy. He also held overwhelming sadness from watching so many die. Her simple sincere thank you was like a watershed moment for my dad. Her thanks helped him heal. It gave him different lenses to look at his actions and the war. What it meant to fight and save

people from tyranny.

He began sharing his war stories. I found out he received two Purple Hearts. On his first mission his plane was shot down. He survived and went on to fly over fifty-four missions until bailing out and injuring his back. One of his crew members would not jump. He stayed to try and get him to jump which he never did. My Dad had to leave him and jump at an extremely low level. He was flown to Miami and recovered at the Biltmore which was used as a military hospital. I also found out he had saved all his records and military items in a suitcase in our attic. To this day, I have his original bomber jacket, glasses, cap and metal on display.

I miss my dad every day and wonder what he would think of today’s unrest. The growing antisemitism attacks on soldiers and law enforcement. I am fairly sure he would be appalled and angry. He would also be upset over the level of entitlement with younger people and their ignorance of history. The sacrifices so many have made. The wars that were fought over hate and antisemitism.

He used to have a saying, “you cannot fix stupid,” I agree to a certain extent. Some people have been simply indoctrinated by lies and misinformation and may never change, but it is imperative even more to correct misinformation. Speak up and stand up against the lies and antisemitic tropes with true facts. Facts about Israel’s history of invasions.

First by Babylonians attacking King Solomon and the Jewish Kingdom of Judea. The Jewish homeland is now called Israel. The reinvasion and destruc-

tion of the second temple by the Romans. The holocaust and Jews being repatriated back to their homeland which was the Zionist Movement. What followed the next years of the Arab/Israeli Wars in 1948. While Israel has seen peace Accords, they have been under constant attack and the last attack which was on October 7th was an unprovoked, planned and executed war, the worst since the Holocaust. The propaganda and lies purported by the Arabs are meant to create a conspiracy theory against Great Britain and the Jews. Anti Zionism was created by the Arabs and then spread and taught as hate of all Jews even though they are the indigenous people of Israel and Jerusalem. The first, second and now the third temple are all on Temple Mount. While Jews, Christians and Muslims all live together, terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah only want to see the full destruction of the Jews. This is the true definition of genocide. They will fight even if it means killing their own. I always pray for peace even more so as we have a very fragile peace now. Please help to be part of the solution. Correct misinformation and state the facts! Defend those that are being attacked, bullied or threatened! Report incidents right away to the police and do not wait!!
