Ha Sang-hyeon is the owner ofahandlaundryandvolunteers at the nearby church, where his friend Dong-soo works. The two run an illegal business together: Sang-hyeon occasionally steals babies from the church’s baby box with Dong-soo, who deletes the church’s surveillance footage that shows a baby was left there. They sell the babies on the adop tion black market. But when a young mother So-young comes back after having abandoned her baby, she discovers them and decides to go with them on a road trip to interview the baby’s potential parents. Meanwhile, two detectives, Soo-jin and Lee, areontheirtrail.
The idea for “Broker” was ini tially conceived by Filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda while researching the Japanese adop tion system for his 2013 Film Like Father, Like Son, discov ering in the process its similari ties with the South Korean adop tion system. He learned about Japan’s only baby box, a place where people can anonymously leave children and the criticism surrounding the system in Japan. It can be found all around the world, including South Korea, where it is much more popular in comparison with Japan. After Kore-eda discussed Song, Bae, Gang making a film together, he decided to combine the two ideas. Kore-eda had previously become acquainted with Song and Gang at various film festivals, while he met Bae on the set of his 2009 Film, Air Doll. Kore-eda has described Broker as being a companion piece to his 2018 Film Shoplifters, with the two films sharing a thematic interest in social outcasts who come together to form unconventionalfamilies.
Awards
Broker was released on June 8th, 2022, on 1,594 screens. It opened with 146,221 admissions and topped the South Korean box office. The film crossed 1 million cumulative admissions
in 11 days of release and it became the first film directed by Kore-eda to surpass 1 million admissionsinSouthKorea.
Broker was selected to compete for Palme d’Or and won the Ecumenical Jury Award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. In honor of National Nutrition Month and Healthy Fats Day in March, Avocados From Mexico is sharing how Avocados - a super good food and source of good fats and several vitamins - make everything better. Avocados From Mexico conducted a survey and found that while 76% of respondents believe fat is an essential component of a healthy diet, less than one-third are confident they know why it’s important to have “good fats” in their diets.
For starters, according to the survey, nearly half of Americans didn’t realize foods with good fats, like Avocados, can help with weight management. However, Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated Fats found in Avocados can lower the risk of becoming overweight, according to researchpublishedin“Nutrients.”
“Most people are aware of the Mediterranean Diet, but nearly half (40%) of survey respondents didn’t realize that this eating pattern does not limit fat com ing from plant sources like Avocados,” said Nutrition Expert and Registered Dietitian, Barbara Ruhs. “These types of Unsaturated Good Fats are also rec ommended by the American Heart Association for heart health. Eating Avocados in place of foods containing Saturated Fat is an easy and delicious way toapproachhealthyeating.”
Virtually the only fresh fruit with good fats, Avocados can help people meet both Good Fat and Fruit and Vegetable rec ommendations in the same bite with approximately 6 grams of Good Fats per serving (one-third of a medium Avocado). They are nutrient-dense, making Avocados a superfood with super benefits. Avocados are also free of Cholesterol and Sodium and have nearly 20 vitamins and minerals.
Another finding from the survey is that while people believe fat is essential to a healthy diet, one-third of survey respon dents believe Saturated andTrans Fats are associated with health benefits, indicating confusion about the various types of fats. Many Americans need to balance their overall fat intake by reducing “Bad” or Saturated Fat intake and increasing “Good” or Unsaturated (Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated) Fat intake.

Why Become A Tree City USA Community?
Started in 1976,Tree City USA is one of The Arbor Day Foundation’s oldest programs. The founders had a vision for a greener, healthier America and hoped this initiative would inspire change on a nationwide level. The first Tree City USA cohort comprised of 42 communities in 16 states. Today, the program includes more than 3,600 communities from all 50 states,WashingtonD.C.,andPuertoRico.
The benefits of becoming a Tree City USA is to create a thriving urban forest which offers many advantages to communities. Here are just a few: Trees help absorb the sounds of traffic in urban areas by 40%. Neighborhoods with trees are
seven to nine degrees cooler than those without. Trees reduce energy costs up to 25% by shading buildings and protecting them from winter winds. Homes with trees have higher property values. Green space plays a major role in improving mental and physical health. Plus, planting and maintaining trees absorbs Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere, mitigating the effectsofclimatechange.
The City of Aventura’s Community Services Department carefully planned and prepared this event with guidelines to safely protect the health and welfare of the community it serves. Please be advised that details may be subject to change due to any updated safety restrictionsandguidelines.
Climate change is the biggest challenge facing the health of our planet and
while it will take many solutions working together to make a difference, trees are the proven, affordable, natural way that can be implemented quickly to pull Carbon Dioxide out of the atmosphere today. Every tree planted is a step in the rightdirection.

Stress doesn’t just affect your mood—it can have long-term health impacts as well if you don’t take steps to manage it constructively. For individuals who face the stressful task of caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease or another Dementia-related illness, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is providing six steps to reduce caregiver stress as part of National Stress AwarenessMonth(April).
“Finding ways to manage and reduce stress is of paramount importance for every Alzheimer’s caregiver— untreated stress over a prolonged period of time can lead to caregiver burnout and a host of other health issues,” said Jennifer Reeder, LCSW, AFA’s Director of Educational and
Social Services. “Caregivers need to take care of themselves so they can provide the best possible care for their loved ones.
National Stress Awareness Month is a great time for caregivers to be proactive about managing and reducing their stress and make an investment in selfcare that will benefit them and their loved for whom they are caring.”
Here are six steps caregivers can take to manage and reduce stress.
Be adaptable and positive Yourattitudeinfluencesstress
levels for both you and the person you’re caring for. If you can “go with the flow,” and avoid fighting the current, that will
help you both stay relaxed—conversely, becoming aggravated or agitated will increase the chances that your person will as well. Focus on how to adjust to the situation in a constructive way.
Some things are totally out of your control. What is in your power to control is how you respond and react to these outside factors. Concentrating on finding solutions can help make the problem itself a little less stressful.
Everything cannot be resolved at once, nor does it need to be. Don’t hold yourself
to unrealistic expectations. Prioritize, set practical goals, do your best to achieve them, and takethingsonedayatatime.
Inadequate rest, poor diet, and lack of exercise can all exacerbate stress (and cause other health problems as well). As best you can, make it a priority to get sleep, eat right, drink plenty of water and find ways to be active. You cannot provide quality care to a loved one if you don’t take careofyourself.
Exercise, yoga, meditating, listening to music or even taking a few deep breaths can all help relax the mind and reduce stress. Find something that works for youanddoitregularly!
Disconnecting from your support structure and staying bottled-up increases stress. Whether it’s with a loved one, trusted friend or a professional, don’t be reluctant to talk about your stress, because that can actuallyhelprelieveit!
The AFA Helpline is available seven days a week to help provide information and support regarding caregiver stress and other caregiving questions. Connect with a licensed social worker by calling: 866-232-8484, web chatting at: www.alzfdn.org or sending a text message to: 646-586-5283. The web chat and text message features can serve individuals in more than 90 languages.
Research from Florida International University’s College of Business (FIU Business) found that a machine learning (ML) algorithm that uses hospital data and social determinants of health data can help diagnose a Stroke quickly – before the results of laboratory tests or diagnostic images are available –with83percentaccuracy.
The findings suggest that there may be a way to reduce stroke misdiagnosis in patients and enhance patient monitoring. The discovery will allow medical personnel to identify a stroke patient or patients at risk of a Stroke sooner, improving the patients’medicaloutcome.
Stroke is among the most common and dangerous misdiagnosed medical conditions, and timely detection is key to effective management and improved outcomes. Patients who are treated within an hour
of the onset of symptoms have a much greater chance of survivingandavoidinglong-termbrain damage. This is known as the “golden hour.” Data indicates that Blacks, Hispanics, women, older adults on Medicare and residents of rural areas are less likely to be diagnosed during this crucial window. Currently used pre-hospital stroke scales miss approximately 30 percent of cases.
The ML algorithm that helps better diagnose strokes was developed using data of suspected Stroke patients such as age, race and number of underlying conditions. The algorithm “learns” and improves the more data it analyzes. Social determinants of health (SDoH) are non-medical factors, such as income and housing stability, access to transportation, race, and social isolation, that affect a wide range of health outcomes.
Using all of this information, the ML algorithm helps to quickly diagnose a potential stoke patient.
“As we add more data it’s learning data,” said Min Chen, associate professor of information systems and business analytics at FIU Business and one of the researchers. “Our algorithm can incorporate a lot of variables to analyze and interpret complex patterns, which will allow emergency department care teams to make better and faster decisions. This datadriven approach will help make it easier to identify Stroke patients and ensure that they get the care they need in a timely manner.”
Published in the January 2023 issue of the Journal of Medical Internet Research, the study outlines how researchers developed the ML Stroke prediction algorithm using the emer-
gency department and hospitalization records from hospitals in the state of Florida from 2012 to 2014, merged with the SDoH data from the American CommunitySurvey.
Their analysis included 143,203 hospital visits of unique patients. Patients who ended up being diagnosed with Stroke tended to be older, have more chronic conditions and have Medicareastheprimarypayer.
If a hospital is using the researchers’ ML algorithm, when a patient arrives with Stroke or Stroke-like symptoms, an automated, computer-assisted screening tool will quickly analyze all the patient’s information.
If it predicts that the patient is at a high risk for Stroke, a pop-up will be triggered to alert the emergencydepartmentteam.
This study fills a critical gap in the current efforts to support stroke triage. Current ML meth-
ods developed to assist in detecting a Stroke have focused on interpreting clinical notes and diagnostic imaging results, which may not be available when a patient arrives at a hospital, particularly in rural and underservedcommunities.
This type of technology is undergoing pilot testing in the ERs of several prominent healthcare systems. To facilitate the widespread implementation of this kind of ML-enabled decision support systems, it is important to have widespread health information exchange that enables patients’ data to flow seamlessly across providers and also a standardized way to collect the granularSDoHdata.
Chen conducted the study with Professors Xuan Tan of Clara University and Rema Padman of Carnegie Mellon University.
Here are six steps caregivers can take tomanage and reduce stress.
City of Aventura Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, Esq. personifies the phrase “hit the ground running” by actualizing commitments made during his 2022 election campaign, all within his first 90 days in office.
The former two-term City Commissioner was sworn into office on November 15, 2022, and immediately established the groundwork to engage the region’s workforce with incentives, offer support to families seeking sustainable community resources, and develop a wider scope of educational options to students residing in the neighborhood. His successful– and unopposed– mayoral campaign is attributed to his assertive approach to proposing policies promoting the City’s transparency and largescale projects forging diversity and inclusiveness, which are priorities catalyzing hiseraofleadership.
“As soon as I entered office, I had the unique opportunity to represent the City of Aventura on a global scale in Athens, Greece during the second annual international Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism (MSAA). As a newly elected Mayor, I was fortunate to attend and position Aventura in a leadership role in the fight against hate because that’s the opposite of what our city stands for,” Weinberg said. “Building bridges, both nationally and internationally, is the goal here. Standing alongside other mayors on an international stage– all of whom represented different races and nationalities–is indicative of the type of inclusivity our commission will uphold within the city, andit’sjustthebeginning.”
Weinberg, a corporate attorney and senior vice president of business and development for Hotwire Communications, is committed to preserving the traditional neighborhood vibe for approximately 40,000 residents of the coastal community, along with creating new memories constituents can cherish for years to come. “The swearing in ceremony was remarkable because there were
three new commissioners being sworn in at the same time; four of the seven have been brand-new in terms of the majority. That evening was so magical and full of positive energy, and the commission chambers have never had a standingroom-only crowd of 250 guests,” he said. “Later that evening, the city came together to give back to the residents with a complimentary celebration at the Hilton Miami Aventura, so it was refreshing to experience a neighborhood-style event welcoming our new leaders to the forefront. We have a great commission, and I am so fortunate that I get the chance to servewiththesepeople.”
Speaking of celebrations, Mayor Weinberg acknowledges Aventura’s burgeoning nightlife and shares that more destinations and attractions for entertainment are in the works. “We are grounded in our identity as a happy hour and dining destination with international flavor, and we hope to incorporate more live music venues in the future, such as piano bars offering vocal performances and jazz,” he said. “Our fine dining options offering a relaxed vibe will further solidify our neighborhood feel. For instance, our Esplanade at Aventura restaurants will be unveiled soon, along with our bowling and bocce concepts. Plus, the convenience of the Brightline train is expanding, alleviating traffic and driving woes for countless individuals traveling to and from our city each day. The goal is to further establish Aventura as a city where one can live, work, and play without ever havingtoleave.”
After conceptualizing Aventura’s signature ride-sharing service Freebee, which now has 10 vehicles in operation, Weinberg has his sights centered on launching his Hero Housing concept, which requires a public / private partnership enabling luxury, residential high-rise rentals allocating 20% of the units for Aventura’s crucial workforce, including teachers, police officers, and service workers employed by the City of Aventura. “In this economy, recruitment and reten-
tion are challenges without providing affordable housing options to our valued staff; the hard-working people who are responsible for running our city every day. Offering luxury apartments at belowmarket rates will incentivize living and working within the city, with additional benefits to those seeking to renew their one-year leases if they decide to stay within the neighborhood in which they work.”
MayorWeinberg is already envisioning the state of the city years into the future and encourages residents to volunteer for specialeventsandserveontheCity’svarious Advisory Boards for the arts, education, and community services. “I foresee taking the City of Excellence and making it even more Excellent with each pass-
ing year,” he said. “We’ll have more dining options, an expanded Freebee ride sharing program so people don’t have to worry about taking the car out of the garage, and more public/private partnerships to build another school to accommodate students seeking enrollment in our A+ rated educational system. Though we’re working within a 3.5-mile radius, we aren’t limiting ourselves and intend to expand our top-rated schools. We owe it to our parents to give more options to their children, so we’re committed to gettingitdone.”
LOVE, AVENTURA. Acolumncelebratingtheheart, soulandcultureofourcommunity.
The Aventura Police Department provides a variety of community programs focused on crime and drug prevention, emergency preparedness, community safety and involvement.
The Department has a long history of professionalism and community involvement. In fact, back in 2000, the Aventura Police Department became the youngest agency to ever receive accreditation status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The accreditation means the Police Department has been recognized by an independent organization composed of representatives of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Sheriff’s Association, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Police Executive Research Forum and has complied with over four hundred standards that have been established as benchmarks of excellence. Accreditation is a coveted award that symbolizes professionalism, excellenceandcompetence.
Even with all the success the Department has achieved since its inception, one of the most shining achievements the Department partakes in is outreach. From the DARE Program, Red Ribbon Week, National Night Out and the Aventura Safe Kids program. The Aventura Police Department is truly a community oriented department. In fact here are some of their outreach initiatives:

Many times community outreach is done for specific events but that’s all changing with the latest reveal. Now the Department is taking outreach to the next level and are proud to present their newest community policing and recruitment initiative, The Aventura Police Slingshot. Their new Slingshot vehicle will help spotlight what the City of Aventura has to offer its residents and the South Florida community. In addition it assists in building bonds through partnerships, engagement and outreach.
