The Levante II industrial area of Los Montesinos has undergone a series of improvements thanks to a grant from the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), which has awarded 120,000 euro towards the 200,000 euro project. The works, which have lasted two months, have improved the road and the image of the estate, by including traffic signs and the creation of a recycling zone. In addition, the area has had a new CCTV surveillance system connected to the Local Police installed, had drainage replaced, and seen improvements to pavement areas.

The mayor, José Manuel Butrón, expressed his satisfaction with the result of the renovation works “that favour the business development of the area” and thanked the Generalitat Valenciana “for the effort made by the IVACE to improve municipal infrastructure in order to promote their business competitiveness”. In this regard, he recalled that just one month ago the first charging point for subsidised electric vehicles was inaugurated, also funded, in part, by IVACE. The councillor for development, Ana Belén Juárez, has detailed the works that have been undertaken, with road improvements for which

the surface of the main access to the polygon from the CV-945 road has been rebuilt, “this action being of special importance for road traffic access,” she said. Similarly, vertical and horizontal signage has been addressed and part of the green zone of the industrial estate has been redeveloped and a biosaludable park has been installed. To improve the image of the polygon, a landscape and environmental regeneration has been carried out by executing a plant facade in the main access of the polygon, the section of Calle Daya Nueva between the CV-945 and Calle Rojales.

The emergency services received a call at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, after witnesses saw the distress calls of the boat´s occupants. The witnesses reported that the occupants of a boat, which was about 4 metres in length, were waving and shouting for assistance as the craft had run aground on an islet about 150 metres from the shore.

Ring Kings A confectionary firm from Elche created 300 original versions of a traditional Three King´s celebration cake, the Roscones de Reyes, each with a very special gift inside. Whereas the traditional cake may see the lucky winner finding a small model of a King, in these versions the gifts were tanga briefs, vibrators, and other ‘adult’ themed surprises. The company has been creating the cakes for 40 years and decided to create a heart-shaped variant with an erotic twist.

Javier Sendra, deputy of Emergencies stated the numbers had increased by 30% from the previous year and praised the firefighters for the professionalism in such times of unexpected and increased pressure.

IS YOUR QROPS, SIPP OR SPANISH BOND A LAME DUCK? By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial.

these companies continue these exact practises with their Spanish based clients, as it is sadly still legal here, even for companies passporting their licenses from the UK.

I have been very vocal in my criticism of commission paying underlying investments in products such as pension transfers or Spanish investment bonds for many years now, with that culminating in Chorus winning major European awards for our steadfast campaigns in both 2018, and again this year. I fail to see the positives of a financial advisor receiving a secret cash incentive for putting their clients into a particular investment fund or structured note. Not only does this dramatically increase the cost of these products for the client, but it also near but guarantees the advisor is not choosing the best product available for their clients. As investors, you are already taking a certain degree of risk for that return, and the thought of an advisor increasing that risk to line their owns pockets, with no benefit to their clients, really is stomach-churning.

Over the last 5 years, I have dedicated many column inches, many radio hours, and many a seminar in my attempts to warn our communities here in Spain about the dangers of such practises. It has been particularly difficult to fight this battle alone, and I’m sure you can

all guess why no other major financial advisory in Spain has joined Chorus on this campaign! These practices were outlawed in the UK in 2013, but despite many companies advertising their UK FCA credentials,

Many 10,000s of you have already been placed into commission paying funds without your knowledge and many others will be unwittingly about to sign up to a new investment, or pension transfer exposed to these types of practices. It’s also likely that to add insult to injury, the recommendation will include a tie-in of as much as 10 years, with an annual bond fee of up to 0.95%, when exactly the same product is now available through Chorus at 0.25% per annum with no tie-in. If you have concerns about an existing investment or a new recommendation, please contact me directly on 664 398 702 or s.kelly@chorusfinancial.es and I will be happy to offer a free, noobligation review.

HELPING OUR WILDLIFE

In a world where everyone is concerned about the latest fashion and social media, we often forget that there are many important issues out there that require our involvement and help. Wildlife is a great example that is hugely important to our planet and ecosystem, and we as humans often do more damage to our wildlife than good. But there are many ways to get active and make a positive change to improve the environment for our wildlife.

Birds and other wildlife can trap themselves in plastic rings from bottles and plastic six-pack rings from cans. By collecting the rubbish you are making the area much safer for the wildlife. Many Chinese lanterns have ended up on the beaches after the New Year and sadly end up in the sea. If you see these lanterns, please dispose of them.

Help save the bees. Bees are vital to pollinate the food we need to survive and many of the trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife. But sadly our bee population is decreasing and they need our help. Add bee-friendly flowers to your gardens, such as lavender, ivy, sage, rosemary, strawberry, raspberry, primula, sunflowers, hyssop and many more. Stay away from bee-harming pesticides and herbicides as they contribute to the decline in the bee population.

URGENT FOOD APPEAL

At Happy Pets Rescue we are running dangerously low on cat and kitten food. We are desperately in need of food donations, especially dry food to keep our 20 plus rescue's fed. If you can donate wet or dry food, please contact Happy Pets thrugh our FaceBook page or drop donations off at The Emerald Isle in La Florida. All donations are very much appreciated.

WHAT DOES BEING HEALTHY MEAN TO YOU? I ask this question because most things in life have different meanings to each one of us. For example, health for me is about eating a balanced diet, say 80% good, 20% not so good (I am not saying I always manage this, I do have a propensity for a big bar of chocolate and a four episodes of Vikings) Health is also about exercising enough that

affect my happiness levels. I know that if I have negative people around and get caught up in bad conversations, my happiness will diminish and with it my mental health, and this is something I believe no-one can afford. I don't read mainstream news that often and I never watch the news on t.v. I am aware that all these things change my focus on the bad stuff that is going on around the world. And although I am aware of it, I know that it will do me no good indulging in it. When I am healthy, I feel alive, it's mainly a feeling that comes from within. It's happiness and a bounce in my step. It's wanting to get out of bed on a morning and smiling at myself in the mirror. It's feeling good about how I look in my clothes and knowing I am ageing pretty well. It's facing challenges with confidence and strength. And being able to give myself what I need. Health is saying NO to what isn't good for us, it's a million and one practices that we do every day.

I feel good about how my body feels and looks and I am comfortable in my clothes, with not an excessive amount of muffin top over my jeans. For me a good way to gauge a healthy exercise level is to experience real hunger, now I am not talking about 'I am a bit peckish, it must be lunchtime kinda feeling' but an 'Oh my god I am starving and cannot wait to get home and fill my face.'

To find out what health means to you I think you have to explore and indulge in what isn’t so good. Binging is a good way to do this and most of us, at one time or another have binged. Whether it be on alcohol, drugs, smoking or something else.

I am also extremely particular about my mental health and how people, conversations, the media, and activities

And we have all experienced the aftereffects enough to decide at one time or another to not do it again or very often. We are human beings after all and I think after we have realized that we do not have to be human doings, all the time, we can sit down and look at how our lifestyles are affecting us and make positive decisions towards our total health.

Longevity is also something many of us ponder from time and to time and although I am someone who has no fear of death whatsoever, I have no desire to suffer. With this in mind being healthy is paramount. Seeing people suffer reminds us all, of our mortality. It speaks to us loudly. And even though medical science is ever-evolving and we are living longer, I would rather do it of my own accord, for as long as possible, without medication or surgical intervention. We cannot control genetic illnesses completely. When it comes to our health however, in awareness we can practice damage limitation by getting advice as to prevention.

believe that until you have walked in someone else's shoes, you have no idea what they are struggling with. And maybe how difficult they find being good to themselves. If you are struggling with your health right now, please don't be too hard on yourself. Try to create realistic goals and take small steps every day. Don't compare yourself to others and their condition, as we are all unique individuals with differing needs. Get help if you need it, ask for advice and support and remember that it's never too late to make positive changes.

We all walk our path in life and should never judge another in their decisions and this can sometimes be hard if they are not treating themselves well and their health is suffering. But I truly

SEAT TOP IN SPAIN For the second consecutive year, SEAT, the Spanish car manufacturing company, is top of the league for sales of cars and sports utility vehicles (SUV), with the León being their bestselling model. Having closed the books on 2019, SEAT has dominated car sales in the home country of Spain, with almost 112,000 units sold, achieving its highest sales figure in the last ten years with a quota of almost 9%, and being the fastest-growing brand in the top ten in sales in the Spanish market. The total market in 2019 reached 1,258,260 units registered, which has meant a decrease compared to last year of 4.8%, according to data from the manufacturers association (Anfac), the dealers (Faconauto) and vendors (Ganvam). Despite the overall decline, SEAT sales reached 111,982 units in 2019, which places it as a clear market leader with a growth of more than 4.3% compared to the previous year (2018: 107,328 units). On the back of the results, the general director of SEAT Spain, Mikel Palomera, stated that “for the second consecutive year, SEAT has achieved leadership in both brands and models

in the Spanish market. Undoubtedly, these figures are the result of our competitive range of products that adapts to the needs of customers, and to the excellent work of our dealer network.” SEAT's sector leadership has been based on the excellent sales levels harvested by its full range of vehicles, especially the Leon, the Arona and the Ibiza, which have been among the seven best-selling cars in Spain throughout 2019. The Leon has been the best-selling model with a total of 35,847 units, a success it has achieved in the last three years in a row. For its part, the Arona has finished the year as the sixth best-selling model with 25,128 units and leader in its segment, while the Ibiza has been seventh with 25,121 units sold. All this, together with the great sales performance that the rest of the Spanish company's SUV range has experienced such as the Ateca, with 17,487 units sold, and the Tarraco with 4,474 units. More than 40% of SEAT sales in Spain correspond to its range of SUV models.

Palomera commented, “We start 2020 full of challenges in which we will have numerous launches, such as the fourth generation of our Leon and six electrified models, including the Mii electric, which will reach dealerships in early 2020, and the SEAT el-Born, the first fully electric vehicle built on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group. In addition, this year will be very important for the development of the CUPRA brand with the arrival of the Formentor, which will also have electrified versions.”

NEW YEARS DAY SWIM FOR CHARITY

The Pint Depot Mad Hatters made quite an entrance onto La Zenia beach for their annual New Years day charity swim, dressed as sumo wrestlers.

Adults and children were queuing up to have their photographs taken with the Mad Hatters. The costumes were removed to complete the qualifying swim. After the costumes had all been put back on, the returning walk up the beach was interrupted with an impromptu dance with the beach entertainers. On returning to the Pint Depot for Chilli con Carne and Rice, preparations were made for the main event, “Sumo Wrestlers warm-up dance” to the music of Kung Fu Fighting outside the bar. Special thanks go to Helen for the choreography and to Marie for taking overall charge of the group. We hope to be able to have collected about 850 euros from sponsors and the collecting tin for the charity DEBRA The Butterfly children.

Skyfall

Friday 10:00pm

Deadwater Fell When James Bond’s (Daniel Craig’s) latest assignment goes gravely wrong and Agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked, forcing M (Dame Judi Dench) to relocate the agency.

These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows, aided only by field agent, Miss Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), following a trail to the mysterious Tiago Rodriguez, a.k.a. Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves.

When a seemingly perfect and happy family is murdered by someone they know and trust, the small Scottish community they call home becomes riven with doubt and suspicion as those closest to the family begin to question everything they thought they knew about their friends...

VILLA SIGN DRINKWATER Aston Villa has signed Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. The 29-year-old England international brings a wealth of experience with him to Villa Park having helped Leicester win the Premier League title in 2016. Villa had been seeking midfield reinforcements after John McGinn was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury. Drinkwater is seeking a fresh start after a frustrating period in his career. "I'm massively excited to come to such a big club like Villa," he said.

"I want the club to stay in the Premier League 100%, that's why I have come here to help the team and personally to get game time. "It's been a clear aim of mine this season to play. "It obviously didn't happen in my last club but I am looking forward to the challenges and hopefully we can do well." The Chelsea midfielder has not found any luck in his six-month stint at Burnley this season, although he did make it much harder to find it after the offpitch incidents. Nevertheless, he has been granted another

chance to shine as he has joined Premier League outfit Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2019-20 season Dean Smith said: Danny was a key member of Leicester City's title-winning team and has represented England so he is a vastly experienced player. He will strengthen our squad significantly. He could make his full debut this Sunday in a tough fixture against Premier League Champions Manchester City. The game is live on Sky Sports Main Event at 5.30 pm.

Results for w/v 6.1.20 Hola! Happy new year to all our readers and welcome to our first report for this new decade. Monday’s ‘Bowmaker’ (yes, you remember it’s the best 3 scores from 4 to count) saw a comfortable win, with 108 points, for John Shervell, Nora Betts, Benedicte Kruse and Nigel Price. At 74 years of age it has been deemed that John has to now go back to playing from the yellow tees (Mind you he does get 4 shots added to his handicap!) – Watch this space. Wednesday’s Stableford had the added bonus of being a ‘Joker’ which meant that on 2 designated holes the scores were doubled. Olga Douglas took the top spot with 41 points followed by Lindsay Forbes and Ellen Drakesmith both on 38 after countback. This week’s quote goes to Steve Sax who commented; ‘You can’t call golf a sport. You don’t run, jump, you don’t shoot, you don’t pass. All you have to do is buy some clothes that don’t match.’ Oh, how very true for many of our members! Pues hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

ENGLAND TIE THE SERIES 1-1 IN SOUTH AFRICA Ben Stokes produced an absolute masterclass in reverse-swing bowling to take England to a dramatic serieslevelling win over South Africa in the second Test at Cape Town on Tuesday. Pacer James Anderson and opening batsman Dominic Sibley were also a huge part of the victory for the Three Lions. South Africa's batting let them down time and time again over the 5-day test match. Day One went England's way as they scored 269 runs in the first innings with Pope being the standout factor with a solid score of 69 and Ben Stokes scored 47 for the visitors. impressive(3/68). The following day South Africa were bundled out for 223 after an impressive bowling display from veteran and England cricket legend James Anderson who was superb with a spell of 5/40. Broad and Curran also made good contributions with a couple of wickets each. The second innings saw both sides go toe to toe and England started brilliantly scoring quick runs early on in the day. England declared at 391/8 after some outstanding batting. Joe Root scored an impressive 61 and Ben Stokes scored 72. Dominic Sibley was the decisive factor for England though with a monster (133*) In response, South Africa came out looking nervous and lost 2 very early wickets with some great bowling and variety from the Three Lions. Classy opener Pieter Malan showed grit throughout though

with a very classy 84 runs, however, England got the job done just an hour before the end of play. Joe Root, who had one of his best days as captain spoke to the World's media after the game. "It was fantastic. A brilliant performance by the whole group of players. Showed a great amount of character, patience and a lot of belief as well today. Credit to South Africa, they threw a lot back at us, but the guys really stuck to it, put in a brilliant performance. A brilliant way to start the year. For a young group of players

to be involved in a Test match like that is a great opportunity for us to move forward. We found ourselves at times under a lot of pressure but some individuals really stood up and put in some brilliant performances that got momentum back in our favour. The way Jimmy bowled in that first innings was outstanding, and then you've got guys like Ben Stokes who can just change the game for you." The third Test between South Africa and England is set to be as thrilling as the first two and will begin from 8.30 am on Thursday, January 16.
